When to start training for splits

    Posted: 17 Mar 2020 01:30 AM PDT

Hello! I have another post open right now but I couldn't refrain from asking this questions. So, I finally got the motivation to stretch in order to improve my dancing. I've been doing yoga ( sometimes with an instructor , but mostly through an app ) for the last 5-6 weeks in order to work om flexibility and core strength at the same time. I'm not a particularly flexible guy, which means I have to do the basics for hamstrings and my legs in general. However, I reaaaally want to start training towards my splits. So, my question is, should I start stretching for my splits RIGHT NOW on the side of what I'm already doing and hope that my legs are in a proper condition? Or should I continue doing only yoga and start the splits after I've acquired some basic flexibility?

I have set a goal to improve my frog pose during the new pandemic curfew. Any pointers?

    Posted: 16 Mar 2020 06:17 PM PDT

Now that gyms and classes are closed, I decided to focus on the frog pose at home, which I've neglected for long enough. I am on day three of doing this 13 minute frog stretch intensive. Its the best I've found so far that really works the stretch for me. If you've gotten your frog flat on the floor, how long did it take you? Did any specific techniques help that can be done at home? Thanks!

I'm a 33 year old mother, student, and worker who recently started a vigorous exercise plan to get back in shape and my flexibility back. I used to box before I had my 3 year old son but when I got pregnant I went down hill. Now I want to be in the shape that I was and get the flexibility back.

One leg won't go as far down in butterfly stretch?

    Posted: 16 Mar 2020 12:37 PM PDT

    Hey guys,

I've always been pretty tight growing up, i'm 20 now and have been stretching consistently for a good year or so, lot of improvement. One thing that doesnt seem to get better is with the butterfly stretch. My left leg can get pretty close to the ground fairly easily, though my right leg won't come very close and it is a bit painful when I try to stretch it. Any suggestions on how to get rid of this issue? I've had very tight hips in the past if this changes anything.

    Thanks

    Questions on stretching with app

    Posted: 16 Mar 2020 12:59 PM PDT

Hello! So, I've been stretching with a yoga app ( down dog) for the last 5 weeks or so. And after this time I have a lot of questions, but I'd like to focus on 2 in this post. Firstly, a general question: If I can't get into a starting pose ( for example the one when you have to keep one leg straight amd bend the other by bringing your heel to your glute ) , do I skip it or use the time that the app is progressing in this pose to try and get into the starting position? Secondly, I have a question about what I believe to be IT band pain. I have come to this conclusion after searching on the internet, so I can't be 100% sure, but the spot where I notice a problem, the sensation and the condition of my muscles ( I'll explain ), lead me to that conclusion with the help of a couple of videos by Athlean X. I feel a burning sensation on the outer side of my right knee and a towards the quad. As of my muscles, I just read that this usually happens when there is inbalance between the glutes and quads , both pulling on that band. And it just so happens that I have significantly weaker glutes than quads. Lastly , I feel that burn in stretches where I have to keep my leg straight and in the air. Even without pulling the leg with my hands towards my chest, I feel the burn and have to stop. Maybe ,when I have to pull my leg with its own strength it's even more intense. Is there anything in your experience that I can do for this ( strengthening my glutes included ) ? Soooo, I'm on mobile and may have screwed up some parts of my questions. I hope that I'm clear enough so that I don't hinder you trying to help me. :)

Edit: The title is wrong :p

Need advice on how to increase shoulder flexibility

    Posted: 16 Mar 2020 12:21 PM PDT

I've always had extremely poor mobility in my shoulders, and weightlifting for a year has only further contributed to stiffness and lack of mobility in my shoulders. It's really beginning to impact my ability to exercise because I feel tightness and clicks whenever I move my arm. I checked myself out in the mirror the other day and was struggling to hold a proper shoulder backbend without rounding my back upwards. I was hoping I could get some tips and help on what I can do to increase my shoulder flexibility. Honestly anything at all would be amazing.

P.S - I'm a young guy, so I know that this isn't anything age related

recommendations for a follow along for a child

    Posted: 16 Mar 2020 08:16 AM PDT

my little girl (6) is out of gymnastics because of social distancing. she's really struggling, she misses gymnastics, which she started competitively in january.

i'm not interested in her doing anything unsafe (though we do have a mat at home) but i thought perhaps she could work on her flexibility (she can do middle splits, but can't do "front" (is that what it's called?).

    any recommendations?

    language isn't an issue, just something for her to follow. i found this;

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ku0nviDFQpc

which mirrors her gym warm up etc... so i'm happy with that, but if anyone can recommend anything else that would be great.

Hi all, I'm doing some research for a stretching and mobility training app and would really appreciate it if you had five minutes to complete this short survey. I'm looking for people who currently stretch or train flexibility and mobility. Thanks!

    Hemorrhoids and resting squat

    Posted: 16 Mar 2020 04:51 AM PDT

    Hello there,

is there any link between hemorrhoids and the resting squat? I mean not in the sense that it helps you with your bowel movement but in the sense that a resting squat might make hemorrhoids worse. I have read that when sitting on the toilet the veins around your anus fill with blood which puts you at a risk for hemorrhoids. I am really interested in incorporating the resting squat into my daily routine, however if it could worsen my hemorrhoids ( I do not know if I have them, probably some form of it, doctors appointment is still due) I would not do it.
