Posted: 15 Jul 2020 07:36 PM PDT Are people still going to hot yoga classes? I used to be a regular and It definitely gives me the willies thinking about going back during COVID. In my neck of the world, fitness centres are open with rules and safety measures but I still haven't returned and won't return to hot yoga for a long time. Hot yoga teachers who are working, how do you feel about this? Students who are practicing? Thoughts? [link] [comments]

Posted: 15 Jul 2020 08:21 PM PDT Hey all, Was just wondering if anyone had any tips on what could be causing my right elbow to pop every time I did a chaturanga. My teachers told me to keep my arms shoulder distance apart but I feel like this only increases the pain I feel. I'm a guy who loves pushups so my chest is pretty big but when I do push-ups my grip is much wider then what it's suppose to be for a chaturanga. The elbow popping goes away if I make my arms wide like I'm doing a push-up but I don't know if this is the play, because my hands are 50% off my yoga mat. I've been doing a lot of poses to open up my elbows for a couple months now but this hasn't helped much either. [link] [comments]
| Posted: 15 Jul 2020 08:16 PM PDT Hi guys, I've progressed a lot in the headstand in the last few months in terms of extending my legs and using different entries. But I just can't get my body completely straight! I fall over if I try to extend my hips straight but I can hold it if my feet are over my elbows (imagine a slight bend in the hips.) It's ALMOST all the way straight but missing maybe 10-15 degrees? If anyone has fixed a similar issue, I would appreciate any tips :). Is my lower back too weak or maybe my hip flexors are tight? | Any game changing stretches to incorporate? Posted: 15 Jul 2020 01:42 PM PDT A few months ago I realized that I hadn't been giving enough love to my hammies. Once I started focusing on stretching them it opened up a new world. All forward folds got deeper, splits closer to the ground, etc. Does anyone else have a specific area they focused on to unlock more positions? [link] [comments] |
Entering the World of Yoga with DownDog - do I have a future? Posted: 15 Jul 2020 07:57 AM PDT Hi, I just finished the 14 day trial period on Down Dog app. I'm going after the full year but I have some questions of my own before starting this journey that I was hoping you can help me clarify. I'm 34 yo and even when I'm ''fit'' and skinny, my stretching skills are deplorable, I can't reach near my ankles without feeling that burn in the back of my legs and that's it. Never been able to and already gave up on that long ago (at least until I tried Yoga) My core stability and 0, since I'm so skinny (6 feet /165 pounds) don't have abs or big muscle and never trained like a pro. I can't stand on one foot without shaking/falling, or to do Warrior 1 without losing the stability in my core and falling. Would I get better at this by just doing daily 15 min routines with an overall body focus? Apologies if this seems redundant and usual beginner post, but I feel this would be the only fitness and mind practice that will save me from going nuts over this all situation in the world.....and I wanna grow a stronger body and mind too :) cheers [link] [comments]
History , Significance and meaning of yoga from the eyes of Patanjali. Posted: 15 Jul 2020 05:01 AM PDT There are numerous misconceptions regarding the word 'Yoga' and the meaning of Yoga.In the modern world, people have started referring to asanas as Yoga. However, Yoga is not limited to asanas, and its depth is as wide as the width of the endless horizon. The word Yoga has been derived from the Sanskrit word Yuj which signifies to bind, join, attach, concentrate, and practise. One who makes the path of yoga his own is a Yogi. The structure of Yoga as an entity was collated, coordinated and systematized by the great sage Patanjali. It was represented by a snake because it is the symbol for un-manifested energy; for until a snake moves, you do not realize it is there. [link] [comments]

Posted: 14 Jul 2020 09:57 PM PDT Seven months back I took up a short yoga instructor course to overcome exhaustion and fatigue issues. Of course I could have taken outside classes but I have found them crowded, unprofessional and focused more on weight loss. Yoga is a deeper subject with many more benefits than weight loss. I wanted to experience that. Yoga says that a human body has 5 sheaths—physical body, pranic body, mental body, intellectual body and bliss body. A disturbance in the mental body over a period of time creates disease and sickness in the physical body. Hence healing oneself requires healing the whole person. I understood that my exhaustion issues were not merely a physical issue. It had a mind-body connection. To understand this further and to overcome it I took up the correspondence course. Today 7 months down the line I feel more energetic, more overall strength and more in control of my body. Moreover, I feel this is just the beginning.... [link] [comments]
Best Beginner Movements to build Shoulder and Hip Mobility? Posted: 15 Jul 2020 08:33 AM PDT I love yoga, but I struggle with certain things because of hip tightness and overall upper body mass. Was wondering if anyone had some daily stretches that I could supplement with! Thanks! [link] [comments]
I’m having trouble with my piriformis I think, is there anything I can do? Posted: 15 Jul 2020 08:26 AM PDT I've had this problem a couple times before already, but this time it's pretty bad. I don't want to go and see a doctor right now, because I don't want to expose myself to any germ herds, so I hope someone here can help me. One time I solved this problem with a simple yoga pose, lowering your knees to either the right or left side while laying on your back. A loud crack, all was good. The next time, it went away by itself. It still cracked during some poses, but not as loud and the relief wasn't as big. This time, nothing seems to help. When I lean back, it cracks sometimes and when I pull myself up again there's this stinging pain. The pain is now there for pretty much the whole time right now, not that apparent, but it's there. It's located on the left side of my coccyx, slightly above where my butt crack starts. I haven't done yoga from March to the end of June, I picked it up again recently. Is it even the piriformis muscle, or something else? And how can I relief this pain? Thanks for your help in advance! [link] [comments]
can someone suggest a routine for my particular health issues? I have bad feet and a hernia. Posted: 15 Jul 2020 11:37 AM PDT The simple yoga routine I have done over the years has been complicated by some ailments I'm suffering from, and I was wanting the advice of a community of yoga practitioners about modifying it in order to avoid pain and discomfort. First, there is the foot problem I've developed over the years. I have Morton's neuroma and Morton's neuralgia in both feet- from wearing the same shoes for a year, the wrong shoes it turned out. As a result, any routine I perform would have to rule out any poses that get me on my toes or requires full flexing of the foot- that causes excruciating pain. The other problem is I have an abdominal hernia. I can't lift heavy weights, so body weight exercises like pushups are rather difficult. Any yoga that involves torso twisting can be hard- though as you'll see below, some don't bother me. I'm hoping if people here have even one good idea, in the end I can put together something for a daily routine. here are poses I can manage: standing warrior 1 and 2, tree, open triangle, half moon. poses I can't do: any of the downward dog variants, sun salutation, cobra, bow, camel, rabbit. Any help would be much appreciated. [link] [comments]
Posted: 15 Jul 2020 02:39 AM PDT Because of differences in bone, joint, and body structure some poses will always be beyond us. What is yours? Mine: L sit. My arms are too short! I literally can't put my palms flat next to my butt, I have to use props. [link] [comments]
Posted: 15 Jul 2020 04:01 AM PDT I have a lot of issues with neck and shoulder pain over the past years. It's partially due to a serious instability in my body (due to a very complicated old joint fracture), but also me having to work on a computer in less then ideal circumstances for most of the day and simply me keeping a lot of stress in my neck and shoulder. I'm going to try trigger point/dry needling therapy with a new PT, but he was very clear about expectation management: I will seriously need to incorporate movement and exercise consistently throughout the day and make sure I'm not sitting for hours at end if I want to permanently get rid of my shoulder/neck pain considering how chronic my issues are. I've been practicing yoga 2-3 times a week for the past years. I figured I might check in with the people here to see if any of you have experience with similar issues and can let me know what works for you. [link] [comments]
Posted: 15 Jul 2020 03:43 AM PDT Do any of you guys have an iron deficiency? I've been taking supplements but it really annoys me while doing yoga. If I bend my head low and hold it, as soon as I rise I start to feel dizzy. It's really annoying and gets in the way of the routine. [link] [comments]
Posted: 15 Jul 2020 01:19 AM PDT I've been trying to find resources to better help me understand and connect with the ideas behind yoga, so I'm not just simplifying it into another kind of workout, but the majority of what I'm finding seems to approach it from a medical/fitness point of view. Would very much appreciate any personal experiences or nudges in the right direction. Thank you. [link] [comments]
