Welcome to Form Check Friday! Here is the link to all previous Form Check Fridays

Please post a photo or video of the stretch you'd like to be critiqued. Do include any specific questions you have about your form.

Your video or photo should be:

    • Oriented the correct way, we want to see the lines of your body
    • Be formatted such that there isn't unnecessary video of you preparing for the move (keep it short)
    • Have the important bits of the movement clearly visible (multiple angles is always useful)
    • Include the whole body

    Rules for critiquing form

    • Constructive criticism only
    • Feel free to point others to resources that address their form and/or questions if you aren't "qualified" to give them advice yourself

If your form is awesome, consider posting it in the Show Off Sunday thread!

    1cm ankle range of motion

    Posted: 20 Nov 2020 12:43 AM PST

    Brisbane Qld Australia

Was seen by sports physios & told I have 1cm ankle range of motion, ankle flexion on knee to wall test. Was told normal range of motion is more like 10-15cm.

I thought it was my Achilles tendon?: Went to a Dr of sports medicine, had CT scan done, looked at my ankles and said this isn't normal & referred me to an orthopaedic surgeon, was told he has a good reputation. Dr of sports medicine wrote out please see X____ he has very difficult problem with ankle joint

Went to the orthopaedic surgeon & got blown off. Told peace out & Goodluck. Orthopaedic surgeon had the CT scans and told me your talus and tibia where they meet at the ankle are flat, you were born like that. I've seen it once before

Instead of rounded allowing it to naturally glide over giving range of motion tibiotalar joint/ankle joint: see comment below

This is something I need to deal with, it's ruined me from the ground up. If you're a young guy and you can't get that shit out of you, power/stress and what not through physical exercise it makes you sick, effectively you get neutered and disconnect & that's no life

If anyone has a recommendation that could help

I ripped about 3 “string” of muscle in my adductors the other day during a pancake stretch

    Posted: 20 Nov 2020 03:20 AM PST

It felt like a pop 2 on my left side and 1 on my right side. I was 3 fingers away from having my chest touching the ground. Just curious are the benefits that great between stomach to ground vs chest?

Clicking in the hip socket - will it ever go away?

    Posted: 19 Nov 2020 11:40 PM PST

    Hello,

Will the problem of clicking hips ever go away? Should I "stretch through the pain"?
I'm a female twentysomething, and exercising/ stretching for the first time in my life!

When I stretch my hips there is a LOUD and painful "click" that feels like tendons sliding over the bones, maybe?

This happens every single tie I go beyond a certain range of motion (deep squats etc).
    --

    Background info

My hips have always been incredibly tight; I'm multiple inches away from being able to touch my toes.

I live an very much above-average life, in terms of activity (manual labor & outdoor recreation every weekend).

Is it bad to stretch everyday?

    Posted: 19 Nov 2020 09:58 PM PST

Heyo So I currently stretch about everyday and so far it's been going really good but I'm now questioning if I should be doing it less. It's super hard for me to just not do it because it's become such a routine and I feel like I'm gonna lose everything. So is it bad to be stretching once a day? If it is what would be the recommendation?

Is there a downside to stretching 5 days in a row?

    Posted: 19 Nov 2020 02:36 PM PST

I started doing the beginner stretching routine, been doing it for roughly a month and I am getting used to that routine. I have been doing it M W F. If I started adding a stretching routine strictly to try to fix my rounded shoulders (chest openers, shoulder extensions, etc) and do it on Tuesday and Thursday, is it too much to do stretching exercises 5 days in a row?

My left leg/hip is really tight, what can I do to make it more flexibile?

    Posted: 19 Nov 2020 10:28 AM PST

My left leg/hip is really tight, what can I do to make it more flexibile?

If you would please check the images (sorry for the awful images), my left hip/leg, really not sure what I should call it is really tight, I can reach the ground with no problems with my right leg, but my left is "so far up" from the ground. What kind of stretches would you recommend?

    Overhead squat mobility

    Posted: 19 Nov 2020 10:47 AM PST

Any tips on getting my heels to stay flat when getting into an overhead squat? My normal squats are beautiful but as soon as I raise my arms up my heels want to raise too. I have tried putting weights under my heels but that isn't helping to further my progress it's just a temporary fix. As of now I just squat with my hands up with a broom and it just feels funky.🏋🏽‍♀️ 🥴
