| Help! Super sore lower abdominals! Posted: 15 May 2020 07:16 PM PDT I am a total yoga beginner. I started using Down Dog while in quarantine and liked it so much I purchased the subscription so I could use it on my computer (bigger screen makes it easier). Today I did a 55 minute full practice session with a focus on standing poses and it was really fun and also challenging. Of course my balance is not perfect but I did okay. Now, a couple of hours later, my lower abs hurt so much!! I searched google with no luck on relief or problems, though I may not be searching for the right things. I did combinations of low lunge, high lunge, warrior 3, tree pose, and two poses I don't know the name of. The other poses are 1) where both hands go back, chest low and forward, with one foot in the air and back and 2) knee lifted and knee lifted to the side. A lot of these were one legged balance. Any ideas on what I might be doing wrong to cause such pain? I can't even lift my feet off the ground high enough to put pants on! I've got a hot water bottle on but any other tips would help! Thanks! [link] [comments] |
| Posted: 15 May 2020 10:48 AM PDT I am a novice practitioner of yoga. I've practiced in intermittent short bursts over there last couple of years, and I'm trying to commit to a regular practice. I have found that one of my biggest struggles is marrying my breath to my movement. I tend to hold my breath or breathe sporadically, and this throws off any rhythm I manage to get. I've discovered this struggle discourages me in my practice, and I would really like top improve this skill. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to practice letting my breath move with my body? | For studios reopening- what precautions/changes are there? Posted: 15 May 2020 04:05 PM PDT Limited number of people in classes, bring your own mat/props, etc. What are your studios doing and/or what would you like them to do? [link] [comments] |

| Asymmetry with Parivrtta Trikonasana Posted: 15 May 2020 03:16 PM PDT I've noticed that I have some asymmetry in Parivrtta Trikonasana twisting to the left that doesn't seem to be present in Trikonasana alone. Any insight into into the more anatomical basis for this and how (other than practicing this pose) I might help to balance this out? Thank you! [link] [comments] |
| Posted: 15 May 2020 03:00 PM PDT Anyone know of any online free yoga resources for total beginners? I want to get my mother into gentle yoga that's appropriate for her age, capability and body type: she's 50's, not active at all, could be considered overweight. Any help appreciated. | Lower back and knee pain relief? Posted: 15 May 2020 08:16 AM PDT I have lower back issues and some knee stuff that I was wondering if there are good daily yoga exercises to help with. [link] [comments] |
| Posted: 15 May 2020 07:53 AM PDT Looking for a 1/2 hour to an hour yoga sequence to practice daily that engages all muscle groups. Doing a new routine each day is frustrating as I'm constantly looking back to the screen for direction which makes me lose concentration. Any suggestions? [link] [comments] |

| Stomach troubles and yoga poses Posted: 15 May 2020 11:07 AM PDT Hi Yoga people! I need some pose suggestions. I currently work long hours in health care, and I specifically have upper back pain and would like to strenghten my upper body (I already know lots of poses for my lower body) and back. Currently I also have a Crohn's disease exacerbation, meaning I regurgitate stomach contents whenever my head is lower than my chest. I also can't do anything that compresses my belly at the moment, as it is extremely bloated and swollen and it's just not comfortable. Obviously I am also not in a condition right now to do any really crazy poses, but I would like to still stay active and work on my weak parts (which is the upper body, mainly). Any suggestions on poses? Thank you :-) [link] [comments] |
| Posted: 15 May 2020 04:16 AM PDT I have highly inflexible wrists and ankles and all the stretches ive looked into cause i great deal of pain, evwn the beginners ones. Anyone have advice? [link] [comments] |
| When is it time to adjust difficulty? Posted: 15 May 2020 05:40 AM PDT So I've been doing yoga on my phone (Down dog app) and I was wondering when would be the right time to go from beginner to more intermediate poses. I do feel more flexible and I really do like a challenge. There are maybe 10% of the poses I'm still a little wobbly at but besides that I do want to progress. Unfortunately though I don't have access to a teacher during quarantine so would any experts out there chip in on when they felt it was right to scale up the difficulty by another notch [link] [comments] |
| Recently restarted yoga. Fingers are completely numb after any practice involving Downward Dog? Posted: 15 May 2020 09:18 AM PDT Hi! I used to do yoga in 2017 when I was significantly fitter, so I'm not sure if that's a factor, but I recently started the Home series on Youtube (Yoga with Adrienne) and my hands are fine unless the practice features a downward dog. I find it really difficult to visualise and translate what I should be doing and where my weight should be. I remember a slight tingle after yoga but never a complete numbness that has lasted days. Any advice ? Also if this isn't the platform for this kinda q please let me know where I should go! Thanks :) Edit to add: the numbness for days was because i did yoga every day for like, 4 days and I didn't let it recover. It usually lasts a couple of hours. [link] [comments] |
