Posted: 01 Oct 2020 02:19 PM PDT I am currently working on my full splits, and I'm wondering whether it is good to work on it every single day, or whether it might be more beneficial to take days off? Does anyone know whether it might help the progress to have rest days, or whether it's best to practice every day? [link] [comments]

Any advice for a wannabe yoga teacher? Posted: 01 Oct 2020 01:25 PM PDT Hey everyone, I was just wondering if anyone had any advice on becoming a yoga teacher. I'd love any advice on the best types of training course or how to learn more. So far all I really know is from YouTube videos and I've never been to classes except a handful of times. I want to learn about the spiritual/theory side aswell as the physical aspects. So if anyone has any recommendations of videos, books, types of training etc. Or just any advice in general. I'd really appreciate it. I'd also like to know any advice reading the yoga teacher training courses or the 200hr courses, and which is best. I'm in ireland in case that's relevant or anyone knows any great teachers/courses. [link] [comments]
| Posted: 01 Oct 2020 12:06 PM PDT Hi! I've been practicing yoga nearly everyday (30 min - 1 hr) for about a year now (taking rest days as needed and took a month off to do yin yoga only). I thought I would have more muscular and cardiovascular endurance near the end of the year, but I still have to take frequent breaks during class. I've started to cross train with calisthenics so that I can protect/strengthen my joints. I will say that I was a couch potato before but could run a few miles on the treadmill. I know most say to go at your own pace and take breaks as needed, but I'm not sure how much is too much that it starts to affect how well I build endurance. What has your experience been? | Online Yoga Workshop- proceeds go towards Animal Welfare Posted: 01 Oct 2020 02:51 AM PDT Hello r/yoga ! We're a registered NPO under the Ministry of Corporate Affairs. A section 8 NPO to begin with. ( we're based in India) We're a women-led, youth empowered initiative. We engage in conversation through all platforms, be it youth, children or old alike. What started off as a college campus aid to the doggos, by two doctors, has today grown into a 4 city chapter in India ( Guwahati, Gangtok, Delhi and Mumbai) wide program across d country with 10 mini units being held across in cities like Jaipur, Hyderabad, Ayodhya etc. We are the first organization in India to bring forth humane education as that is the need of the hour. We are working on the animal human coexistence . Apart from the usual animal welfare nuances of vaccinations, sterilization, adoptions, rescues, we are reaching out to schools, colleges, campuses to bring the concept of humane education to India. Since we're an NPO, we completely depend on donations for funding our rescue, foster and medical cases. This time we thought of bringing to everyone a fundraiser that provides them value as well. So here we are presenting to you our Two-day online Yoga workshop. The workshop will be conducted by a certified yoga instructor All the proceeds from this workshop will go for cases under us. The Yoga workshop will be held on 3rd and 4th October at 5 pm IST. We really need your support. Help us spread the word. For more details, you can always DM us. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 01 Oct 2020 10:24 AM PDT I've done a lot of research on yoga mats and read a ton of reviews and recommendations, but I'm still a little lost and overwhelmed about which one specifically is right for me. I've been practicing just about daily for about 4 months, and I would consider myself approaching intermediate. My studio offers park classes and street classes, which I go to regularly, bringing my mat. I currently use a cheap foamy mat underneath the old Manduka my instructor very generously loaned me for the foreseeable future, which provides me with enough cushioning to not feel the rugged concrete under me, but it's a real drag to carry the thick foamy mat and the heavy Manduka to every practice. Now that I'm completely addicted to my practice, I'm getting ready to invest in something that will fulfill my needs (and hopefully last a long time). Here are the qualities in my dream mat: Light enough to carry 1.5 miles to park classes Cushion/thick enough to protect from the bumps/cracks in the concrete Absolutely zero slippage Easy enough to clean (I machine-wash the Manduka and it's amazing) Mayyybe an option for a longer mat, as I'm on the taller side and sometimes need to adjust. If you have any thoughts, please send them my way! Thank you! [link] [comments]
Is it normal for my legs to start shaking when trying to stretch my hamstrings? Posted: 01 Oct 2020 05:32 AM PDT Hello, As someone new to yoga and stretching, I've noticed that when I stretch my hamstrings while lying on the floor with legs in the air (like this), my legs start to shake. What does this mean and is this something I should worry about? Is it normal, or should I reduce the intensity? I've noticed that it happens only while I'm lying on the floor with legs up in the air, not when I'm doing any other type of stretch like seated, or standing. [link] [comments]
Yoga Teaching without Social Media Posted: 01 Oct 2020 07:10 AM PDT Hi all. I haven't really posted much on reddit and I may end up cross posting this to the Yoga Teaching group though it appears it's a little dead over there? I recently graduated with my 200 and am currently working on my 300hr to then become a 500hr. So, when I decided to start yoga teacher training finally I thought it may be time for me to re-enter the social media world beyond just following others. I used to be heavily involved in my late teens and early twenties (now 28) but as my practice evolved and life evolved I found it really took away from my intentionality. So I walked away and felt amazing, never once missing it. Then I came back and started posting and feel so uncomfortable and inauthentic. I joined because I thought it would be the best way to reach people and teach people and help people. But ever since I joined I have felt drained and have been unhappy and find my self esteem crumbling or find myself needing to over explain or post what I think people want to see. EVEN THOUGH I went in telling myself NOT to do that, not to get in that head space. I did anyways. I know there are good things to social media and a good way to go about it and I have been authentic with my posts while fighting these urges and insecurities, but it still doesn't feel authentic for me to be posting to begin with. So, do you think someone can be a solid yoga teacher without social media presence? I don't currently belong to a gym or studio, but I would love to studio teach, work with people one on one, and I especially am wanting to teach yin, restorative, and work with trauma informed yoga. I also find all local studios request 1-2 years of teaching experience so how can I go about that...offline? Anyways, thanks for listening and any advice you may have for me! [link] [comments]

Do you have any tips for half-bound lotus forward bend and baddha padmasana? Posted: 01 Oct 2020 04:17 AM PDT I can do the normal seated lotus, but for some reason when I have to do the binds in this pose I can't. I thought my shoulders were quite open, since I can do the reverse prayer and gomukhasana hands and bind in the extended side angle, but this pose is so challenging for me. [link] [comments]
Posted: 01 Oct 2020 01:43 AM PDT Hello, After doing mostly vinyasa yoga and going to Iyengar yoga studios to improve my alignment, I have decided to dive into ashtanga, since it has always fascinated me. I have a question about learning the asanas and the primary series. I am able to do the primary series until Navasana, but I wonder how am I supposed to finish the practice. Obviously, I'm doing Savasana at the end, but some teachers that I follow online are doing some asanas from the finishing sequence to end the practice even if they haven't done the whole thing, for example after the 'final' pose they do Baddha Padmasana and continue until Shavasana. How are you ending the practice while still learning the asanas that are included in the series? [link] [comments]
Posted: 30 Sep 2020 09:05 PM PDT So I've noticed for a while but have never really talked about it, but when I get into a yoga session the back of my throat and sinuses feel chilled as though my breathing is cold. Does anyone else experience this? What does it mean? [link] [comments]
