My knees hurt a lot during yoga. Any suggestions?

    Posted: 07 Nov 2020 04:43 PM PST

So I'm still a teen, I exercise and stetch 5 times a week for at least 45 min, but I have a big problem when it comes to yoga. My knees are damaged after 6 years of playing basketball and even normal jumping hurts like hell. I tried yoga, but I had to give up after 10 minutes because my knees hurt so bad. Please help, I really want to at least try it.

[COMP] Trying to figure out this crow to handstand transition!

    Posted: 07 Nov 2020 11:47 AM PST

I've been interested in the crow to handstand transition and while going through progressions I came across this one: https://youtu.be/o9CHmkZuQ3Q?t=33

Notice (at 0:33 in the video) the crow variation (knees not the resting on the arms) and the arm forming a 45 degree angle from the elbow.

I can hold this with my arm angle just above 90 degrees by really engaging my delts, like here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Du9Z010oblY

But it feels so challenging, I can really feel the strain on my delts and traps here. Pushing up from this point is so hard!

Is this a shoulder stability issue? Is it a case of the muscles aclimitising to the strain placed on them?

I can do pike push-ups, and handstand push-ups (chest-to-wall) but when in a balance without support, it just feels so hard!

    Early morning flexibility

    Posted: 07 Nov 2020 12:08 PM PST

What forms of yoga are good for getting very flexible early in the morning? That is the only hour of the day when I consistently have time for yoga, and I want to include splits and pancake stretches in my morning practice, but at the moment I never have the necessary pike flexibility until later in the day, when I am usually busy with other stuff. At the moment, in pancake, I can touch my forehead, or even my chin, to the floor, but only after 11:00am or so… Any suggestions? I know the splits and the pancake are often not considered to be yoga poses, and also that many people say you should only do the pancake with your back perfectly straight, so your forehead would never touch the floor before your chest, but I do what I can. In the past, yoga has been the way I made the most progress with flexibility, so I thought I would ask about this here first.

My mum wants to do yoga but can't because of her knees

    Posted: 06 Nov 2020 10:04 PM PST

After doing 30 days of yoga with adriene I decided I would try to get my family involved and set up a little class for 4 of us, my aunt, dad, mum and me, with one of her videos, my mum has bad knees, is overweight as much as she'd hate me admitting that and she has breast cancer.

When we went to do the first thing of sitting on the floor cross legged, she couldn't because she said her legs hurt too much, is there any way she can join in or we can strenthen her legs to be able to join us?

Top of head hurts when doing tripod headstand

    Posted: 07 Nov 2020 06:10 AM PST

I can do the tripod headstand fairly easily. However, the top part of my head really hurts when I don't have additional cushioning below my head.

    - Why is this?

    - What can I do resolve this?

    Thank you :)

    Suggestions for people with sciatica

    Posted: 07 Nov 2020 05:36 AM PST

I have developed sciatica (also have scoliosis), and other back issues. Not long ago, I was able to do most any pose, but that's not the case now.

Do any of you know of any yoga videos that don't involve forward bending? Or anything specific to the issues mentioned above? I have found a few on YouTube but was hoping there are more out there.

Slight knee pain/sensitivity after Burmese posture and exercise

    Posted: 07 Nov 2020 04:00 AM PST

    Hello people,

I sit in Burmese style about 45-60 mins a day. The combination of this with squatting and deadlifting at the gym made my knees feel sensitive. I don't feel any pain during the sit, but off cushion, when walking stairs there's this knee sensitivity, or slight pain in the inside of my knees. I think I have enough mobility to sit in the posture, and to perform the squat, but maybe I need to fine tune the mobility of my hips. Or maybe I need to get checked. I'm not sure.

I practice some yoga myself, mostly sun salutations in the morning, and Yoga with Adriene once in a while. Let me know if anyone has some video's I can follow along. And share with me your thoughts. I appreciate any help. :)

Hip and back pain after yoga?

    Posted: 07 Nov 2020 02:47 AM PST

Few days ago i suddenly developed a hip pain when walking, there also appears to be more pressure on my left leg while walking.

Possible causes: stretched hips while doing hip openers for the pelvic floor

While walking, it looks like my whole body now leans towards the left leg.

Is there any advise to solve this?

    Thanks

    yoga with asthma

    Posted: 06 Nov 2020 09:55 PM PST

Has anyone else has moderate to severe asthma and notice a good improvement while practicing? I am wondering because I need to make some improvements with my routine to help heal myself and my lungs. I know my asthma won't ever go away as I was diagnosed at 5 but I can atleast improve my quality of life. Thanks in advance for help.
