Posted: 12 Nov 2020 03:44 PM PST Hey all! I just wanted to chat about this with a community that I know loves and appreciates yoga as much as I do. I tried yoga a few years ago but only really started to get into it at the beginning of September. I'm so sad it took me this long. I'm astounded at the positive benefits I get from it, both mentally and physically. I had heard from yoga instructors that one can hold negative energy/emotions in muscles, and honestly I thought that was a load of shit. But now I have actually experienced the occasional release during a pose. It's odd that just sometimes, the tears just start flowing and it feels like such a release. The other thing I'm really surprised by is the self love that I'm feeling for myself. I have never been a confident person, and thanks to quite a bit of weed over the last few years have been pretty anxious, especially about myself and others opinions towards me. Yoga is doing so much for me for that, and I am so grateful for it. Today during my practice I was doing a pose and just started to cry, and it wasn't negative at all, and I just had this overwhelming feeling of love for myself. I just wanted to see if anyone else experiences anything like this during any of their practices! [link] [comments]
Posted: 12 Nov 2020 07:54 PM PST Ok, so. When I read about the benefits of yoga, I really feel like it should be PERFECT for me. I'm 34, ridiculously inflexible, struggle with anxiety/racing mind. I work on my feet 12 hours a day doing repetitive factory work. Lately my back always feels like it's moments from actively hurting, and the rest of my body never feels great. I've tried to get into yoga before and never been successful, I even took it during one of my college stints to force myself to stick with it. Did 90 minutes a day, 5 days a week for six weeks. I hated every moment and I found it insanely frustrating. Here's why: I fucking CAN'T DO IT. The simplest poses are hard to me. Like when I try a "beginner routine" the very first thing is like, sit on the floor cross-legged with your back straight. Guess what? CAN'T. Stick your legs straight out. CAN'T. Forward fold? CAN'T. Downward dog is a "resting" pose? Is that a joke? It kills my wrists and it's hard as fuck and I'm not even close to getting my legs straight, or my back, and my arms are maybe kinda approaching my ears. Even childs pose feels like a stretch and is uncomfortable to me. I really would love to be able to come home from my long ass day and unwind with like a 20 minute to half hour routine, and maybe limber up a bit, gain some flexibility. But I need the most most MOST beginner routine there is, and I can't find it. I just can't shake the feeling that I"m doing this shit wrong. I get so frustrated. I'm sure as hell not relaxed at all, and no amount of deep breaths can fix it. If you've been in my shoes and gotten past it I'd love to hear how. Or if you have a routine for my kind of literally can't sit on the ground inflexibility. [link] [comments]

Managed my first proper side crow today! Posted: 12 Nov 2020 03:05 PM PST Managed to hit a pretty good hold on my side crow and so pleased, even managed to smile during it! Could do it at all on the right tho, just to my left [link] [comments]
| So I've been struggling to get back into the flow... Posted: 12 Nov 2020 07:43 PM PST I picked up yoga as a hobby in 2014 after struggling to overcome a severe eating disorder. It quickly became my safe haven and source of happiness in the world. I dived in head first and learned everything there was to learn, even doing several college presentations on yoga and the history. I love love love the exercise it provides and the sense of being one and pure. However, after beginning to work full time and immersing into the adult life for the first time, on my own, in a new state, I can't seem to get back into it again. It hurts my heart a bit because it was something that pretty much saved my life years ago. Now it just seems like a thing of the past. What are some tips on falling back into the practice? | Pins and needle Vibration in feet during practice Posted: 12 Nov 2020 07:26 PM PST During my yoga practice I notice that If I'm in a pose too long I start to feel a tingling pins and needle vibration in my feet. It happened today during my practice (especially during child's pose) and I don't know what it is. Sometimes it also happens in my hands in other tough positions. Is this normal?? [link] [comments] |
Releasing trauma through yoga? Posted: 12 Nov 2020 09:23 AM PST Hi all, In addition to therapy, meditation (day 102 in a row today!), and other holistic practices, I've started now doing yoga most days. These are ten minute sessions on YouTube (Kassandra). Over the last few weeks, I've found myself more emotional than normal, almost as though I'm going through something new even though nothing has really changed, and I'm wondering if it's possible that my newly introduced yoga practice is helping me release repressed trauma? Thoughts? [link] [comments]
Best/favourite lolasana drills and exercises? Posted: 12 Nov 2020 12:42 PM PST Now that I can hold a crane, I would like to learn lolasana. What is the best way to practice this pose? [link] [comments]
Pain below right scapula (or under) during meditation Posted: 12 Nov 2020 03:48 PM PST Does anyone know what might be causing this pain? At this moment I can't sit more than 10 minutes without this pain starting and completely taking over my meditation practice. The location is a bit hard to describe, I can't really find out myself where it is, but it starts from below the scapula, extending all around and up the inner scapula. It seems like it's underneath also. And the weird thing is, it's only on my right side. So this makes me believe that it's coming from bad alignment and excess stress on my shoulder and upper back muscles. Does anyone have any insights or tips to help prevent this? Thanks in advance 🥰🙏🏻 [link] [comments]
A men’s shirt that won’t bunch in down dog? Posted: 12 Nov 2020 11:17 AM PST Hey there, thanks for reading. I was wondering if anyone knew the best kind of shirt for guys doing yoga. A shirt that wouldn't end up gathered in my armpits if I'm in forward fold, downward dog, or the like. Is a compression shirt the best/only option? I'm fine with wearing women's tanks as they seem better designed. What do you think? [link] [comments]
| Posted: 12 Nov 2020 02:13 PM PST So guys, I broke my back. (upvote secured if you recognize the quote) I did heavy barbell rows for months. I think I had good form during the movement, but I'm pretty sure the injury comes from repeatedly picking up the bar from the ground incorrectly. I stopped rowing, as it was the only time I felt pain. After a while I noticed a strange sensation on my lower back, I think on the sacrum area. A couple of weeks went by, and I decided to check the area pressing with my finger. The left side of the sacrum hurt. The day after, I woke up having pain in pretty much all situations, even when walking. I feel pain particularly when I tilt my pelvis or bend over to pick stuff from the ground. I tried stretching or strenghtening my lower back, I tried resting for more than a week, nsaids, nothing makes it go away. It hurts all the time. Sometimes it gets better, sometimes it comes back stronger. I can't jump, I can't do some excercises.(especially leg exercises) I get some relief doing the cobra position or supermans, or heating the area. But the pain comes back. I will definitely go to a physiotherapist, but I can't do it in the near future for personal reasons. What can I do in the meanwhile? What do you think the problem is? TL;DR: the left side of my sacrum/low back has been hurting for months. Especially when I bend over or tilt my pelvis. Cobra pose/supermans/stretching alleviate pain but it comes back. Any advice? | How long to progress to more advanced moves? Posted: 12 Nov 2020 02:12 PM PST I was looking at r/flexibility and I would ask the question there but I never get any responses so I wanted to ask why is it that some people progress so quickly, while I feel like I am still so far from any actual movements? I'm training front splits as my main goal but I feel like I don't make much progress in there. Is it just consistency? [link] [comments] |
Ankle mobility killing my Malasana- help! Posted: 12 Nov 2020 12:38 PM PST During lockdown in May, I made a goal to be able to do a Malasana squat with both of my feet flat on the ground by the end of 2020 (goodbye 2020!). But when I try, I fall backwards and I have to lift up on my toes. I think I have narrowed it down to poor mobility in my ankles. I searched the thread but didn't see any specific notes on this problem. Any suggestions on exercises/poses to help with this? Please help! [link] [comments]

Can Side/Box Splits Cause Damage? Posted: 12 Nov 2020 09:09 AM PST Hello! I hope I'm in the correct place. I've been wanting to be able to do the side/box splits and have been trying to stretch into them. However, being highly inflexible to the point of being unable to do a sitting v stretch (can't sit on my thighs) makes it quite difficult. I've been warned by a friend that trying to do box splits could lead to hip replacements in the future. Is this true? If not, are there any specific stretches (with photos?) one would recommend to achieve them? Thanks! [link] [comments]
Cost per Zoom Class in your area? Posted: 12 Nov 2020 07:53 AM PST Hi everyone! Curious to know what the average cost per class on Zoom is in your area? Do you still have monthly unlimited packages? If so, how much? Thank you 🙏 [link] [comments]
Posted: 12 Nov 2020 07:37 AM PST I'm working on my sequences for this weekend's classes. I usually use down dog as my transition to seated poses because I primarily practice ashtanga and that's what I am used to. What are other ways I can bring students from standing to sitting? I watched a video where you bend the knees, bring hands to the floor, and then bring the knees to the ground before shifting to sitting, which I like and will try. Are there other options that I am missing? [link] [comments]
