Anyone else get this weird feeling in hamstring?

    Posted: 19 Mar 2020 05:38 AM PDT

I've always stretched but recently started intensively training front and side splits. When I do front splits and oversplits, I have this weird feeling where I'll feel almost like a painless snap/pop and a few seconds of tingling in my hamstring/leg and then can stretch a bit further. I know that sounds bad but it doesn't hurt at all. I always warm up and do nerve glides and take a long time to work up to oversplits/don't push too hard so I don't think it's that I'm overstretching. Anyone else get this?

    IT band stretch advice

    Posted: 18 Mar 2020 10:46 AM PDT

Hello. I'll get right to it. When I do the stretching exercise where I have to lie down and lift 1 leg up straight ( and later pull it ) , I feel a burning and leter numbing sensation on the outer side of my knee and towards the thigh. My suspicion is that what I feel is my IT band being pulled by my quads and glutes ( probably unevenly with strong quads/weak glutes ). So, do you have any idea how I could fix this ? I'm already working on strengthening my butt but does anyone have some experience with this? Because I'm a little afraid to push this, but on the other hand I need to do these stretching exercises to improve my dance.

    Flexibility programming and goals

    Posted: 18 Mar 2020 07:43 AM PDT

Hey all, I'm trying to capitalize on availabe time with Corona virus self quarantine to start taking my flexibility journey more seriously. Looking for advice on how frequently to be stretching for different goals.

I am a 21 year old male, have been lifting for about 2 years and actively stretching since the new year.

My biggest question is how I should be structuring my stretching schedule to best address different goals. Most lifting programs have comprehensive progression patterns and structure, but stretching programs seem more stand-alone. Currently, I have just been doing daily 15 minute follow along routines by Tom Merrick on Youtube (definitely check them out if you haven't already).

I have reached a point I am not a total stiff plank, and want to begin focusing on certain goals. Specifically, Pike and then eventually work towards splits. Should I be doing specific stretching in addition to my daily stretching, or in place of. Additionally, would it be better to do multiple goals in parallel (1 day pike, 1 day pancake, etc) or just focus on one piece for a few weeks and rotate.

Thanks in advance for any help and advice

How long does it take for me to notice a difference ?

    Posted: 18 Mar 2020 04:39 AM PDT

For the last month I have been doing hamstring stretches. I couldn't touch my toes. I have also been doing 1 stretch for my lower back/hamstring. I want to be able to bend my lowerback at a 90 degree angle. Every time I stretch I can feel my muscles stretching, so i feel like i am going deep enough. But I am still not close to sitting at a 90 degree angle or touching my toes without warming up first. I can touch my toes now after warming up a little. But it's still not with my legs completly straight.

My questions is. Should I keep doing these exercises while I still feel the muscles stretch and the difference will be noticable in 3/4 months or should I do different exercises ?

Can't find any hamstring stretches that work?

    Posted: 18 Mar 2020 07:42 AM PDT

When I do hamstring stretches I only feel it below my knee in the sciatic nerve. I read that bending the knee will help but I still only feel that pain in the sciatic nerve. I'm stretching my glutes and calves as I also read stretching these will help resolve the issue but it's been a while now and I still can't do any simple hamstring stretches and actually feel it in my hamstrings.

Is my sciatic nerve just messed up? Is there anything else I can do to feel a stretch in my hamstrings?
