back pain when straightening back in certain poses

    Posted: 20 Mar 2020 07:42 PM PDT

as i got more into yoga i realizes that i had been stretching incorrectly, with my back rounded. however, as i've been trying to straighten my back and lengthen it i feel an insistent pain in the lower back, and when i bend my back to relieve the pain i feel a different pain in my upper back. has anyone experienced this or have a way to help?? i've noticed it mostly when i'm stretching forward in my middle splits

    Why is tabletop so hard?

    Posted: 20 Mar 2020 02:11 PM PDT

I hate tabletop. I used to have a lot of wrist pain with other poses (ie downward dog) but ever since making sure I don't dump into my wrists and getting a ganglion cyst drained, my wrists have been way better. No matter what I try though, tabletop is so hard on my wrists. I inwardly groan whenever it's tabletop time.

I would appreciate any insight/pointers/anything. I feel like it's such a basic pose but I struggle with it so much.

I need advice! I do yoga about 6 times a week. I’m sick (sore throat, runny nose etc.) but I feel so un-grounded and irritable on my days off-yoga. Does yoga boost immunity/ok to do when ur sick? Or will it just put more stress on my body when it’s trying to heal?

    Staying on track during quarantine

    Posted: 20 Mar 2020 07:24 AM PDT

I've stopped going to yoga studio due to covid-19 outbreak. Day to day I feel empty and anxious and find it hard to start practicing without group. Most of all I lack feedback and support from my teacher.

Do you have any tips on how to maintain mental health during isolation? How do you find the motivation to start the practice? I found that tracking time spent practicing helps a little.

Also, do you know any apps that help to keep track of your progress?

    Headstands?

    Posted: 20 Mar 2020 01:10 PM PDT

For many years I practiced Yoga where we used a headstand bench as a major part of our training. I got a lot out of it.

Fast forward over a decade during which I have been practicing Chi Kung exclusively and have very recently started yoga again I find my face gets very red during headstands. Is this normal or should I beware?

    Handstand

    Posted: 20 Mar 2020 05:54 AM PDT

Hey Yogi's!! I'm recently unemployed due to covid19 I'm using this time to deepen my practice a little bit. I made it a goal of 2020 to be able to handstand and I'd like to reignite that goal while I have free time.

I see a lot of courses on Instagram or Facebook with titles like "4 week course progression to handstand","or "learn to handstand in 30 days." I was hoping to ask the community here if they have any success stories with particular programs or courses online?

    Chanting for Global Healing

    Posted: 20 Mar 2020 10:13 AM PDT

    Hello family,

I'm wondering if anyone knows of any powerful chants we could recite to assist in our global healing? I keep having dreams of this crisis we are currently experiencing; so I'm accepting my call to assist. I've recently been confined to my home, and Many of us are soon to follow, so as we retreat to our personal spaces I think we can really use this time to focus on our healing as individuals and as collective. Id like to start hosting group meditations with my friends, and if we could add some spoken word to these I think we could really amplify our connections. I was thinking maybe we could try to get a list of chants with their meaning we can have some ammunition ready for those who seek it! This is a POWERFUL moment in universal history!! The sea may be rocky now, but as we pull together we will soon be still. Much love and thanks in advance.

    Malasana help!!

    Posted: 20 Mar 2020 08:42 AM PDT

So I have very tight and weak hips, hamstrings, and glutes. I seem to always deal with lower back pain. I'm trying to work up to Malasana, but don't know if I have the strength / openness to even get there yet :(

Either my knees jut forward or I have to lean WAYYY forward with my ankles raised.

I'd like to be able to do this squat but without being able to regularly practice at my studio I worry I'll injure myself...any advice here on how to strengthen and open my hips/hammers???

    Alo Yoga sizing

    Posted: 20 Mar 2020 03:09 AM PDT

I'm between sizes and looking at the muse set. I've never bought anything from this brand before so I'm not sure whether to get a M or L.

    The M is a U.K. 10-12 (US 8-10) The L is a U.K. 14-16 (US 12-14)

I'm a U.K. 12-14 (US 10-12). I don't want to get the L if they're going to be too baggy. However I equally don't want the M if it's going to be tight. There's no option to try them on first so I'm just wondering if anyone on here knows which size would be the best to go for?

    Microfibre or shiny?

    Posted: 20 Mar 2020 05:49 AM PDT

Hi everyone! I am looking to buy a new yoga mat because the one I have at the moment is a bit too slippery for me. The ones at my local studio have this shiny and absorbent top layer, which I love because I never slip on them. However when I look online I see people saying they love the suede-like microfibre surfaces because they never slip on those. I'm not sure which to go for, so I thought I would ask what everyone's opinions are about these two types of mat. Thanks! :)

Edit: And if anyone has any opinions on cork I would love to hear those too!
