I just wanted to say, I am grateful to the entire Reddit Yoga community. Reading your amazing stories in these trying times is really what gets me through my day.

    Posted: 09 May 2020 04:56 AM PDT

My wife and I opened our little Yoga community studio in a park near our homes two years ago. During this time, we've seen some pretty scary and crazy changes... but nothing like what we've experienced over the last 2 months.

Our whole way of life has had to change but the support and love we get from the Yoga community (including just reading the amazing stories or seeing how people are adapting) are what keeps me going.

So no matter where you are in this crazy beautiful world.

Thank you for being part of this with me. I may not ever see you, but I feel your beauty.

Thank you for being present. You might not always feel it, but just being here is a blessing.

Thank you for sharing. Every awesome photo, a kind word, thought, or even cheeky comment can mean the world to someone.

So from your mates in Australia, G'Day. Hope to see more of ya on ya mats!

[COMP] Recently I got aware of interesting advantage of being a yoga teacher. I like to practice together with my students and I am talking throughout the class. Therefore I notice immediately when I am pushing my limits by my voice. Forcing me to respect my breath! Students have to learn this hard.

    feeling discouraged

    Posted: 09 May 2020 08:41 PM PDT

I know we're all feeling one way or another these days, but has anybody else felt less excited about their practice lately? I had a really good routine going, but lately I can't even seem to want to be on my mat.

    Advice for backbend progression?

    Posted: 09 May 2020 06:28 PM PDT

Hi all, I'm starting to work on my back flexibility but don't really know where to start. Using a strap in one legged pigeon I have a good 5-6 inch distance from head to foot and my hips and shoulders are quite open, for reference. What are the best ways to open up my back more? I'm focusing on my one legged pigeon and getting a tighter wheel but I'd really appreciate some advice on other things to include!

Day 1 of my yoga journey! :)

    Posted: 09 May 2020 03:56 AM PDT

Hey there! First time poster here. I've decided to take up Yoga with Adriene's 30 day yoga journey. I've just done my first day (although I think I will do 2 of her videos a day, one in the morning and one in the night) and I feel so relaxed!

I'm struggling with the breathing part, though. I can inhale well, but it's when I try to exhale that I cannot really concentrate and get to it. Breathing has always been my deepest struggle - I don't focus on it and I can do exercise without even breathing because I forget. Are there any tips you could give me?

My goal in this new yoga journey is comprised of several mini-goals... first, the breathing - not only for yoga, but for the pilates and cardio I have been doing for a month in this quarantine. Second, the flexibility and being able to strike some badass asanas. And last... trying to get to know myself better. I am certain I will be able to do it!

I am so excited for what's about to come. If someone could give me some tips or recommend me some youtube channels or videos to add to this new routine, I'd really appreciate it! Thank you for taking the time to read this mini-rant.

PS. What's with the sweaty mats?! My hand palms and soles of my feet are sweating like a h**ker in a church! :(

    Wide legged seated forward bend

    Posted: 09 May 2020 03:22 PM PDT

Hiya, quick question; if I can't do a wide legged seated forward bend without sacrificing a straight spine, is it better to do them standing or use something to raise my backside off the ground while seated? For reference, I have a very bendy spine that has, I assume, compensated for tight hamstrings - or caused them.. who knows, either way, I can't sit up straight without rounding my spine in the ab region (thoracic? Lumbar? Both?)

Looking for a flow similar to CorePower HPF

    Posted: 09 May 2020 07:05 PM PDT

I'm not sure if Corepower is well liked or not around these parts...but I used to do the HPF (Hot Power Fusion) flow every single morning. Frankly, I can't remember much about the flow since I haven't practiced yoga in awhile, but I'm looking for a similar flow.

Can anyone recommend anything similar to it?

releasing psychological trauma with yoga ?

    Posted: 09 May 2020 04:04 AM PDT

my yoga teacher who's 80 years old has always told me about an experience that changed her life in the past, once while performing the cobra asana she had a sort of flashback about her mom, then she kept focusing on the cobra posture while practicing everyday and those flashbacks started to get more and more clear in her dreams at night until the whole picture came back to her from memory and she ended up by understanding that she had a buried trauma and once she dealt with that, the tensions on her chest and shoulders began to finally release while she practice. I've always wondered if some of the tensions and blockages that we hold in our bodies are more from a psychological nature rather than physiological, what do you think guys ?

    Fatigued hip flexors?

    Posted: 09 May 2020 08:42 AM PDT

Lately during my practice, I am really feeling my hip flexors. I've had tight hip flexors my whole life, but this is more of a tired/fatigued feeling. It's the most prominent in standing poses when I'm raising my legs out in front and then I continue to feel it for a few minutes after exiting the pose.

Has anyone experienced this? Is it just another step on my tight hip flexor journey?

Also relevant, I fell out of practice for a while and have been returning to every day for the last month.

Wanting to learn more difficult poses.

    Posted: 09 May 2020 03:20 PM PDT

Currently I'm doing fairly simple Yoga with the Nike Trainer App and I have done YWA. I'm looking to learn how to add crow poses and hand/head stands to my practice, but there's just so much on YouTube it's overwhelming. I am willing to pay for something that will move me forward in my practice.

Due to Covid-19 I have already made the decision not to return to any group fitness or gyms until a vaccine is available.

A question about yin yoga and improving flexibility.

    Posted: 09 May 2020 03:11 PM PDT

I have only been practicing a week, my own routine of yin yoga poses that inspire me for digestion and such, and i am already noticing an improvement in my flexibility. I am holding each pose for 3 minutes. I am curious if there are some tips to increase flexibity even faster in certain poses. Such as long holds, more reps, anything? Thanks in advance :)
