Posted: 23 Aug 2020 02:25 PM PDT This might seem like the dumbest question, but I can't seem to find an actual explanation online. I know nothing about Yoga, so to me it seems like a reasonable question, and that is, when you take these poses that I've seen lots, are you supposed to tense your muscles or anything? or do you literally just put your body into that position? I only ask because I've seen people say they are dripping with sweat after a session and I just don't see how I could be unless I'm doing it wrong. Thanks! [link] [comments]

| Rotation of thigh and associated knee pain Posted: 23 Aug 2020 02:05 PM PDT Would anyone be able to recommend certain exercises or asanas to gain flexibility in the hips? Especially with regards to the internal and external rotation of the femur in the hip and avoiding knee pain while doing so. I have been experiencing knee pain while doing janusirsasana (both ways), deer pose and half pigeon for example. Would love to improve this rotation, so thanks in advance for any help! | What are the reasons people give for not trying yoga? Posted: 23 Aug 2020 05:19 PM PDT I'm interested in the boundaries and barriers that keep people from trying yoga. What reasons did or do you have? What reasons have you heard others say when you suggest yoga to them? [link] [comments] |
Low ceilings. Best way to alter poses? Posted: 23 Aug 2020 04:21 PM PDT I'm a fairly tall guy and my house unfortunately has fairly low ceilings. Standing straight up I can almost touch the ceiling with my elbows overhead. For poses where my hands should come together with straight arms, would it be better to keep straight arms and have palms against ceiling out wide? The other option is to put palms together with heavily bent elbows. Or maybe bent knees and straight arms. I usually avoid practicing in this area, but it is so so so so hot outside I just can't bear it. [link] [comments]
Posted: 23 Aug 2020 10:00 AM PDT Hello all! I've been searching forums, reddit, and the interwebs trying to find a series/channel/etc that has yoga without all of the "chi" and "chakra" talk. I know this may be an unpopular opinion but I just can't help taking it seriously when doing the yoga poses and following along then they just start going on with talk like that. All the more power to you if it works for you but I just can't. Does anyone know of any online instructor series, classes, etc that focus on the poses, breathing, etc without that? Thank you for your help! [link] [comments]
Can someone point me in the direction of yoga for general body stiffness/aches? Posted: 23 Aug 2020 01:37 PM PDT I have a lot of stiffness/aches throughout my body: knees, wrists, shoulders, back, neck. I am looking for a routine to loosen myself up and stretch when I am stiff. Thank you for any help! [link] [comments]
How do I Sponsor A Yoga Retreat? Posted: 23 Aug 2020 11:56 AM PDT Can anyone help me connect with Yoga Teachers who are holding Yoga retreats in 2020? I am seeking to make contact with such teachers in order to talk about sponsorship opportunities in the age of Corona Virus. You may reply or DM me directly. Thank you. [link] [comments]
Lower back pain after starting yoga? Posted: 23 Aug 2020 11:41 AM PDT I started doing yoga by watching online videos about three weeks ago, since then I've noticed that after three or four days, I will start getting intense lower back pain. So bad I can barely bend over. If I take a day or two off and rest up, I feel better and can begin again. I've read online and it seems like I could be overextending myself or doing poses incorrectly. Did anyone else experience this? Will it get better as I progress more? I've looked into going into a class and having an instructor teach me poses but can't find too many places that currently are doing in person classes right now. Thanks! [link] [comments]
Posted: 23 Aug 2020 07:19 AM PDT I would like to get my parents started on some type of yoga.. they're getting older and I can tell my dad is started to walk around a little stiff. I think he has problems with sciatica nerve. I'm just worried about hurting them or making things worse being I have no real experience with yoga. Any advice would help [link] [comments]
Posted: 23 Aug 2020 09:56 AM PDT Quick question from a newbie. I recently started to get active at home and i've been doing beginner exercises for stretching, working out and, even more recently, yoga. My question is about the "fat burning yoga". Im not specifically looking to burn fat in my activeness but how does fat burning yoga work? Is it something that gets you started so you are more efficient/burn more fat when working out? Is it just that it works certain muscle groups that are linked to burning fat? There are sources that say it helps with losing weight but im more of a traditional "go out and run" type of person so it doesn't really click with me. [link] [comments]
Posted: 23 Aug 2020 08:52 AM PDT No one points it out when I'm in a class when I hastily rework my position because I'm doing to pose on the wrong side again, so it's not like I'm being embarrassed in public. But I've always been this way, and I get embarrassed even when I'm doing yoga alone at home with an instruction video. It makes me feel like I can't focus on the pose itself and I have to be alert to see if I mixed up the pose again. I know I need to calm down when doing yoga, but noticing that I messed up again just pushes me away from trying more advanced flows. It's so frustrating that I'm mixing up right and left, you'd think I'd get it down by now? Ugh. [link] [comments]
Posted: 23 Aug 2020 01:01 AM PDT I don't know much about yoga, but have been practicing every day with the help of videos from the internet. I love how yoga is very mindful, and really gets me to exist in this moment now, without thinking about the past or the future. However, sometimes, it is suggested that I should 'set an intention'. I've seen this from different instructors. However, I personally find that this pulls me out of the mindfulness of the present moment, by asking me to consider what I would like to achieve in the future. I always just flick back in my mind to 'I would like to be mindful during this yoga session' as my intention, which allows me to carry on. But it does make me wonder how those two things fit together in the yoga way of thinking, the mindfulness AND the intentions? I thought maybe someone more experienced may have some ideas or thoughts about it? [link] [comments]

Is it safe to just practice Sirasana (the head stand pose) and not practice other asanas? Posted: 23 Aug 2020 07:40 AM PDT [25M] New here and not sure if this has been asked before. I'm losing out hair and my vision is getting blurry. I've heard sirasana helps fight hair loss and improves vision. Hence I've been practicing sirasana (followed by sarvangasana) almost everyday. I find no difficulty doing either of those but I'm wondering if it's safe to practice them without first doing other asanas. [link] [comments]
| Posted: 22 Aug 2020 11:43 PM PDT Hello! I'm kinda new to yoga and just starting (maybe around 2-3 months), and what I've been doing now is do yoga every other day but in between that I workout my abs, buttocks, and back (some weight loss and a bit of strengthening — I just use 3lbs dumbbells but no biggie). I feel like working out those muscles might keep me from improving my flexibility? And will it be harmful? Trying to alternate between yoga and workout? Sorry I am a bit clueless. Thank you!
