    Yoga feels impossible for me

    Posted: 27 Aug 2020 08:00 AM PDT

I use Nike training club and it has been great so far, but when it comes to Yoga it just depresses me, I am incredibly stiff, I can't even make a 90 degrees angle with my hips and back unless I'm sitting, I am relatively slim and workout regularly and played lots of soccer but my flexibility is just horrible, and when it asks me to do something like downwards dog or the one where i am balancing on my hands curled up like a mushroom i just give up.

I don't mean to sound creepy but...

    Posted: 27 Aug 2020 12:08 PM PDT

I chose a random yogadownload video to follow today, and there were a lot of chin locks and "crunched" poses. I have a lot of trouble with these, because I have a very, ahem, ample bosom. I mean, I'm near suffocation in Bridge, so getting anywhere near a proper Plow is out of the question. So it got me wondering... Are there any large chested yoga instructors I can follow on YouTube or the like, where I can learn some modified or alternate versions of the poses I can't normally get into? Right now it feels like I'm really limited to basic poses, because my boobs are always in the way. 😭😂

Looking for really slow, intentional, online practices!

    Posted: 27 Aug 2020 02:39 AM PDT

    Hey everyone,

I find a ton of fast-moving-flowly-power yoga videos....but I am hoping to find something slow, intentional, which really breaks down postures, builds them up slowly and gives you time to sit in them and connect with your body.

I know Yin is an option for this, but I have yet to find a really good online teacher/channel.

Just a few days ago Adriene posted this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hoGJXCg5yb0 - which was amazing and slow and exactly what I wanted seeing how many people posted in the comments "this was uncomfortable to move so slow" ;)

So yeah, any suggestions would be super welcome, thanks!

    nasel breathing

    Posted: 27 Aug 2020 05:40 PM PDT

Today at my Kung Fu lesson, i was taught to breath in through the nose and out through the mouth. due to the flow of chi this breath cleanse the kidneys and other organs. Is what it i was taught.

i find this very strange due to having practiced yoga for years now and learning to use only nasel breathing.

i actually find i enjoy the kung fu breath style more, as it is more relaxing.

so my question is why is nasel breathing so prodominat in yoga classes? ive never thought to ask until today.

    Affordable Mat That Doesn’t Stick

    Posted: 27 Aug 2020 06:56 PM PDT

My first two starter mats are of this cheap foamy material that sticks to my skin and feet. Its rather annoying and becomes a distraction.

Is this normal? Part of the practice? Or, do I need a new mat?

    Any suggestions?

Semi-NSFW but does anyone else feel that their vagina is a little more sensitive post-yoga?

    Posted: 27 Aug 2020 06:28 PM PDT

This is more than likely because I did some hamstring/glute/pelvic stretches but I want to ask if anyone else felt the same way. I wanted to work on that area because of some issues with sex so feeling that was kind of a relief for me. Very interesting feeling but I loved it a lot. Anyone else felt this way?

    Diet and flexibility?

    Posted: 27 Aug 2020 12:08 PM PDT

Are there any foods or supplements that either help or hinder your flexibility?

I've heard magnesium, for example, can help with joints and therefore improve flexibility but are there others??

Teaching yoga without being a spiritual person?

    Posted: 27 Aug 2020 05:15 PM PDT

So I am in a YTT currently. I certainly have found that mindfulness provides a wonderful complement to my daily life which I have been practicing for years. Many tenets of Buddhism also interest me from a philosophical perspective; the same could be said of Hinduism. However, apart from this I am very much an atheist. As I go through my YTT there are aspects of it I don't jive with at all and I'm wondering how that would influence my ability to teach yoga and teach it effectively. I have noticed many yoga teachers choose to implement aspects of spirituality into their classes; discussing the chakras as one example. Is it still possible to be a good yoga teacher without regularly touching on these and similar subjects as part of ones practice and teaching?

Can you feel Prana from going to Yoga classes regularly

    Posted: 27 Aug 2020 04:56 PM PDT

Something I've been wondering for awhile. I'm curious if people who just do hatha yoga (stretches/postures) several times a week or daily. Like go to basic flow classes etc have developed the ability to feel Prana such as in their hands or running through their body during/after practice or just during regular life?

    Thanks for the input!

    Bummer!! I want to cryyyy!

    Posted: 27 Aug 2020 02:46 PM PDT

I bought a couple of cork yoga mats to try and one of them doesn't smell at all, just a subtle TPE smell because it is new, maybe, but the other one which is also supposed to be oeko-test certified as very good (no nast chemicals)... Gosh!!! IT STINKS!!! (TPE bottom as well). One reason that I wanted to buy a cork mat was because I got a cork block from Flying Tiger and it smells like heaven, subtle smell of wood which I love. I feel so frustrated! Did you have such a problem with your cork mats? Does anyone have a cork mat that smells like wood?

    Question regarding alignment lines

    Posted: 27 Aug 2020 05:58 AM PDT

I have a question regarding alignment lines on a mat. Are they indeed that helpful to create the correct posture? I was wondering because eg my height is 161cm and if I get a mat which is let's say 185 cm aren't the lines then too far away from each other?

    Audio only yoga class/ podcast

    Posted: 27 Aug 2020 11:34 AM PDT

Curious if there are any good podcasts (or similar) that have guided yoga classes with audio only. I am pretty familiar with names of poses and would like to practice at home without needing my tv/computer.

    Thanks all!

Online yoga certification... if already a PT?

    Posted: 27 Aug 2020 08:01 AM PDT

Just wanting some opinions and insights into online YTT courses... generally what I have read so far is more negative and majority of people feel that in-person YTT is the route to go but just wondering since I am a PT if I could get by doing it online? Just considering this because of covid and scheduling at the moment and didn't want to pull the trigger on anything bc I'm still pretty unsure. I have been practicing yoga for about 10 years so I feel like I have a decent foundation but obviously am no expert and would like to further my knowledge. Thanks!

I didn’t realize the yoga mat I bought had a cancer warning label on it. Apparently they have to disclose if the product is made with PVC only if it’s sold in California. Are there any non cancerous yoga mats out there for a reasonable price?

    Posted: 27 Aug 2020 09:48 AM PDT

Why would cancerous yoga mats be sold in the first place!? And why is California the only state that forces companies to disclose this warning label on their product?

Sighhh... anyways, I want to buy a new mat but I am also on a budget. I have flat carpet in my home so I am wondering if I can get away with yoga socks instead? Do people use both of those together or do some people only use yoga socks?

    Thank you
