Held crow pose for 15 seconds yesterday and forgot to share! Small victory!

    Posted: 18 Sep 2020 03:59 AM PDT

I was on day 23 of YWA Revolution and was challenged with a few poses that I just not ready for. Then she gave an invitation to practice crow and I was all in. I finally flew with stability and strength. I followed her guidance to look forward/ahead instead of down and that made all the difference in my balance. But my hips are talking to me today so time for some restorative. Anyway, just wanted to share. 😊🌈☀️❤️

How is lizard a hip opener?

    Posted: 18 Sep 2020 06:41 PM PDT

In pigeon pose, I feel the muscles on the outside of my hip stretch. However, when I do lizard pose, I don't feel much of anything stretching, even when I go down onto my forearms. Where exactly in the hips am I supposed to feel an opening?

yoga but with nerve pain in toes.

    Posted: 18 Sep 2020 04:35 PM PDT

    Hi!

I was pretty new to yoga and then had an injury to my left foot that has prevented me from really doing much, including yoga. It's been about a year now. I'm wanting to power through but all poses with pressure on the toes are too painful for me.

Any suggestions of what types of yoga or poses you would recommend?
    Thank you!!

Breathing with "navel in" or "lower ribs in"

    Posted: 18 Sep 2020 03:52 PM PDT

So I have been doing Yoga for quite some time and have practicing Yoga Style breathing for even longer as I am a trumpet player. I am wondering how to balance the cues of having a flexed stomach while taking full breaths. Should I keep my stomach pulled in and focus my breath in my back/sides/chest or should my stomach move but be in a flexed position?

Any thoughts greatly appreciated. About a month ago I restarted my daily practice so this conundrum has reappeared and I'd like to get some insight to stay on the right path! Thanks!

    Crow and inversion help

    Posted: 18 Sep 2020 09:36 AM PDT

Hi, I'm one of the many people who has gotten into yoga during COVID, and it's something I've found so helpful right now. I practice for 45-60 minutes every morning and I have gotten the hang of the basic poses. I have recently started doing some flows including crow and forearm stands. I am able to do modified crow, with arms bent, but I am struggling to straighten my arms and find that my knees hurt my triceps/armpits when I stretch up farther. It also kind of hurts my wrists to lean farther forward to balance when my arms are straighter. Any tips for taking crow to the next level? My core is pretty strong but I just can't seem to get the hang of it. Also, tips for getting into forearm stand? I can do it just fine once I'm up, but I can't really get into a forearm stand gracefully.

Modifications for when you stink at balances

    Posted: 18 Sep 2020 11:29 AM PDT

    Hi folks,

I would consider myself an advanced beginner but I have literally never been good at balances. Even when I try to incorporate them frequently into my practice (~5 times a week) and outside (standing around in the house) I'm crummy at them. I wobble around, side to side, and my feet hurt like hell.

I've started using the wall (as this is what I was taught in my iyengar classes for tree pose) but is there some other modification or work I can do just to get the benefit or sense of a balance pose without flopping over?

    Thanks very much!

    Learning to handstand, almost 30

    Posted: 18 Sep 2020 12:52 PM PDT

Is 29 too old to learn to handstand? It's a huge goal of mine. I'm in good shape, regularly walk 10 miles and I am flexible. Gave birth naturally. No disabilities or weight issues. Please give me resources and some kind of step by step guide on how to work my way up to a handstand.

Let's say you don't have time for proper sessions.

What would be the best 2 daily exercises (yoga or not) to ensure that one does not develop back pains as one ages?

When to change and choose routine

    Posted: 18 Sep 2020 03:50 AM PDT

    Hello all,

How often do you change your routine? And how do you choose what to implement and drop from your routine? I'm curious about your philosophy on it?

    Doing yoga with mobility issues

    Posted: 18 Sep 2020 06:45 AM PDT

So I wanted to try yoga, but recently I went to a doctor because I was unable to sit cross legged among other things. After an X-Ray, an MRI, a CT and referral to another doctor turns out I can't sit crosslegged or in the lotus position because of the way my left femur is sit, the anteversion rotation degree (Can post full doctor's report if anyone wants to take a look). Long story short, I cannot sit crosslegged or rotate my left thigh/hip beyond a certain degree, doctor said it could be repaired through a surgery, but actively discouraged me from seeking that since it's a very invasive surgery and since I am not going through pain because of it. Told me to just embrace this limitation and understand that somethings, like sitting crosslegged, many martial arts, and other things will be out of the question (but none of these are essential, I can still play other sports, which I do, so long as it doesn't cause me pain)

TL;DR: Can someone recommend or help me build a yoga routine that doesn't require me to go through poses forcing maximum external rotation of the femur/hip (like the lotus pose, butterfly stretch). The doctor said stretching would improve my mobility in that aspect but only a little, my personal maximum is much narrower than the average (the lower bound of what's considered normal range).

Need help with extreme inflexibilty and poor core strength.

    Posted: 17 Sep 2020 11:30 PM PDT

I have tried to start with yoga many times, but even the ultra beginner session are pure pain and failure. I can't even get into the basic poses. i'm extremely inflexible and my core strenght is garbage. I'm a healthy young male, i try to do some form of exercise everyday so thats not the problem. Do any of you know any good guides to become more flexible starting from "stiffer than a broom" and some core workouts to build up my entire core. Thanks in advance!

Suggestions on doing a virtual yoga hangout?

    Posted: 17 Sep 2020 09:16 PM PDT

I'd like to try some sort of virtual yoga session with friends, but I'm not sure what the best technologies would be to do this. I have Zoom; I have a smartphone and a computer with webcam.

Currently I use the Down Dog yoga app, but since that's a randomized routine I can't really send it to my friends so we're all on the same thing. I could find a youtube routine perhaps? But then I'm also concerned that being on a zoom call with the yoga audio in the background will make it hard to talk / annoying because it's inevitable that we'll be a little out of sync.

Has anyone done this? Do you have suggestions? Thanks! :)
