    Posted: 22 Oct 2020 11:05 PM PDT

Welcome to Form Check Friday! Here is the link to all previous Form Check Fridays

Please post a photo or video of the stretch you'd like to be critiqued. Do include any specific questions you have about your form.

Your video or photo should be:

    • Oriented the correct way, we want to see the lines of your body
    • Be formatted such that there isn't unnecessary video of you preparing for the move (keep it short)
    • Have the important bits of the movement clearly visible (multiple angles is always useful)
    • Include the whole body

    Rules for critiquing form

    • Constructive criticism only
    • Feel free to point others to resources that address their form and/or questions if you aren't "qualified" to give them advice yourself

If your form is awesome, consider posting it in the Show Off Sunday thread!

    Small victory

    Posted: 22 Oct 2020 12:14 PM PDT

I'm getting up there in age and noticed a while back I has become really stiff where I previously was quite flexible. So today I'm celebrating day 100 in a row of 15 minutes stretching per day!

My physio told me to hold each of my stretch’s for 30 seconds. But he also said it is more important and better to count breaths and not forgetting to breathe while doing them. Why is this?

What is the general consensus on Kelly Starrert’s mobility principles?

    Posted: 22 Oct 2020 06:22 PM PDT

I decided I want to truly delve into improving flexibility. I am having growing body aches and pains working a slightly physical job as an RN but I noticed by flexibility is terrible and me be a large contributing factor. Long story short....I have Kelly Starrett's Supple Leopard book as was curious everyone's thoughts on him or if they used the book an saw decent results from his plans that he offers. They are only like 2-3 stretches a day held for like 2 minutes each side and I wonder if it is enough if I do it daily like he suggests.

Kneecap slides up during kneeling lunge

    Posted: 22 Oct 2020 11:57 AM PDT

Hi! I'm working through starting to stretch, very much a beginner!

If I get into a kneeling lunge my back knee touches the ground below my kneecap - as I move forward whatever I have under my knee pushes my kneecap up. This happens no matter what I support under my knee with - I could (and have!) stacked a bunch of pillows there, but in that position my kneecap will go anywhere with very little force. It's almost impossible because of this to get deep enough into the lunge to feel the stretch anywhere.

I feel like I'm doing something wrong - anything I can do here?

How did you increase your shoulder mobility?

    Posted: 22 Oct 2020 01:59 PM PDT

Apparently facepulls, dead hangs and lat and pec stretching aren't enough.

Why is it that you have to hold stretch’s for a certain length of time (such as 30 seconds) ? Why is it not just as effective to do the stretch in one quick movement?

    Posted: 22 Oct 2020 03:12 PM PDT

Sorry if this is a stupid question but I'd just like to know the reason for this. Why would just one quick movement not do the exact same as the muscle is still being stretched the same distance?

    Thanks in advance

Hi there! Does anyone have any good resources or exercises for improving active range of motion?

I enjoy Hypermobile Yogis and Cirque Physio, but always looking for more resources. :)

Does static stretching have any value?

    Posted: 22 Oct 2020 03:02 AM PDT

I keep reading about how much better active stretching is. Is static stretching just a waste of time or is it best to do both?
