    Today has not been the best of days for me but talking with 2 of my friends who have been feeling much worse I feel something of a renewed surge of strength and will to heal myself. I have spent most of my life in depression and or hating myself. But the last 4 or 5 years I have been seeing more and more light, more and more happiness and self love. It has been a long slow journey but it has been worth it. Of late I have felt even stronger despite many difficult days still. Speaking recently with some of my friends it just brings home to me how many of us suffer. There is so much depression, anxiety, self hatred and more out there. So many out there struggling to love themselves, to forgive themselves for being human.

    I don't wish to live like that any longer. I may not be able to choose my good and bad days. But like hell am I going to be dragged back into that cage I've built for myself all these years. No! I am enough. I will heal.

    I have been thinking to of doing more than just talk about compassion. This seems to be a talking point I have been stuck on a lot of late. Self compassion, universal compassion, self love. I feel more and more of it by the day. But I think I need to take action with it as well. I have been thinking of looking at what kind of volunteer work I can do. Perhaps help out at a homeless shelter, needle exchange downtown or something.

    My eye contact has become very intense

    Today marks my 40th day of regular meditating as a beginner. I have noticed a lot of changes. One of them is very strong eye contact , blinking less and having a very firm gaze. I don't know why it happened but it feels good. Feels like I am absorbing all the information from the source (person or even videos)

    Dopamine baseline is WAY too high

    Hi guys. I really hope I can get some help here. Lately I have not been taking care of myself, I've been so triggered by EVERYTHING and have been running around in a rut of thoughts, anxiety, depression, and addictions (high sensation seeking). I've been using my phone scrolling through everything, watching porn too, listening to music as well. I've not used a second on my own thoughts, I CAN'T, literally. Even writing this while I'm bored. I always have to chew on gum, listen to music or scrolling. I've not even been exercising and I love doing that! Or, I used to at least. I can't seem to find the want to live anymore.

    All this while thinking life is trash every single day, I literally don't want to be here. I can't enjoy anything, I don't get it. I need that thing that turns off the brain and turns on the heart. But I can't feel my heart. I fucking hate it.

    Neuroscientist measuring brain waves of experienced long term meditators

    Came across one short video talking about the result of experiments conducted by neuroscientist using brain scanners to see the brain activity of high level meditators. According to it, they found that the meditators all producing gamma brain waves the entire time. Which in normal people only produced once in a while during problem solving moments. youtube video link

    Nothing in this world can ever fulfill me. It is simply not how the game works. Chasing that kind of fulfillment can only lead to more chasing.

    Why is Meditation So Important?

    Like anything else in holistic wellness, you likely know what to do. Want a better body? Workout and eat a healthy diet. Want a healthier mind or less stress? Try therapy, take a walk in the woods, or meditate. There's no lack in the information age of knowing what to do to make a positive change in our lives.

    Rest your hands on your thighs or rest the back of one hand in the palm of the other and let your thumbs touch lightly

    Straighten your spine like a stack of golden coins

    Relax your shoulders down and away from your ears and allow the arms to relax down by your sides

    Gently tuck the chin and keep your lips slightly parted

    Gently close your eyes or keep them slightly open and gaze down about 3-4 feet in front of you

    Who is "you" ?

    If you are not emotions or thoughts or concepts, what is "you" then? It seems like being detached from those leads you to be emotionless or thoughtless. Not acting based on them. Who is "you" or "state" that Buddha teaches us or you trying to be ? Awareness? How do you know that's trueself ?

    A tip for better focus

    Whenever I meditate I find it hard to focus on just the breathing. My mind always wonders around and it frustrates the hell out of me. What I found to be working for me is saying inside my head "breathe in" as I inhale and "breathe out" as I exhale. This is much much more effective than the former method. Hope this helps you focus better.

    It hurts to keep my back straight

    Whenever I meditate and keep a straight back, it hurts. If I were to meditate and keep my back straight, will I eventually be able to keep my back straight and meditate without any pain?

    Silence is Everything!

    We human beings don't understand the importance of silence. Many of us think that being in silence is nothing. But that is not true. Being in silence is actually the most profound thing, because when we are in silence, that's when our inner soul opens up. It is ignorance that makes us believe that silence is nothing. However, those truly wise know that silence is important. In moments of silence, we communicate with the Divine, we achieve our life goals.

    Proper way when normally breathing?

    Hi! I just want to ask when I am breathing normally through diaphragm, should my front be the one bulging or my should my side ribs expand? Or should it be 360 degrees expanding?

    Sorry if this was kind of stupid question, I just found out recently that I was breathing wrongfully for almost a decade since I was breathing in my upper chest (which might be the reason that I was always easily stressed and kind of hard for me to meditate). I remember when I was a stupid teenager that I always flatten my stomach which made me breathe through my upper chest and now I want to revert it to proper way of breathing but I can't determine which side should bulge or expand.

    As you feel more connected within you feel more of a disconnection to society (opinion)

    Hey guys, recently I came to some sort of epiphany regarding my practice and would love to hear your opinion/s.

    Some background:

    I have meditated on and off for 4 years now, during my first year of practice I meditated everyday for approximately one hour. After a year however, I stopped as I started to feel a real disconnection to society. To the point where I was at parties and I would feel perfectly content staring a wall or something weird (first year university). I must note however, that this was the happiest and most connected period of my life.

    Recently due to anxiety and general lack of life satisfaction, I started to take my practice seriously again. I then came to this realization regarding my reason for quitting in my first year as described in the paragraph above. What if it is impossible to feel connected to such a weird society? We are at the most advanced point of civilization but I feel spiritually we are at our lowest (looking at rates of depression/anxiety/suicide). It seems 50% of people I know are depressed and or anxious. Really would love to hear opinions of other seasoned meditators out there regarding this thought.

    Alcohol on the mind

    I'm 20 years old trying to change my attitude toward woman. I think I'm in a society that objectifies women, and the people around me also often talk about how hot a girl is etc.

    I'm trying to change my mindset so that I don't give a person so much value before even talking to them, as that creates anxiety.

    I noticed that when drinking alcohol, and after, I fall into my old mindset. Is this common, and what are the other effects of alcohol on the mind, spiritually speaking?

    Meditation for Healing

    In recent years thousands of people have participated in studies that confirm the beneficial effects of meditation for stress, depression, managing chronic pain, insomnia, and other conditions. Clearly, there are forms of meditation practice that can help people cope with what ails them. But did you know that in some cases meditation can even help people cure what ails them?

    A remarkable story of healing

    An article published in the Daily Beast called Can Meditation Cure Disease tells of a 37-year-old Tibetan lama who arrived in New York with a gangrenous leg and was told by three different doctors that the leg needed to be amputated as soon as possible. Even though his physicians were certain that if the lama kept his leg the gangrene would kill him, before giving his consent, he spoke with the Dalaï Lama, who told him not to amputate but instead to do certain healing meditation practices.

    The story details how, after several months of intensive healing meditation practice, the illness reached a turning point – which was considered medically impossible – and within a year the leg had healed and the lama was walking again.

    Over the ages, there have been countless accounts of faith-based and prayer-based healing. What stands out here is that the illness and recovery were well-documented and that a team of respected doctors and researchers has been studying the case to try to determine how such a thing could be possible.

    One of the researchers, Dr. William C. Bushell, spoke of Tibetan – and yogic – practices involving prana, the subtle circulatory and energetic system of the body sometimes referred to as "the winds." Bushell is quoted in the article as saying, "It is not entirely clear from a Western science perspective what the winds are, but the scientific evidence suggests to me and others that the meditative process involving winds includes increased local blood flow, metabolic activity, and oxygenation."

    Meditation can transform the mind; the mind can transform the body

    The area of using meditation for self-healing has been of great interest to brain researchers around the globe. Numerous studies have revealed the relationship between meditation and a healthy brain. It would seem that the brains of long-term meditators are wired a bit differently than those of non-meditators.

    Two regions of the brain are responsible for depression, anger, stress, and anxiety: the right prefrontal cortex and the amygdala. These regions become overly active when your mind is agitated or you're upset. The left prefrontal cortex, on the other hand, is associated with feelings of peace, happiness, self-awareness, and positivity. This region is activated in the brains of consistent meditators. So is the production of the "happy" neurotransmitter serotonin – in fact, some anti-depressants artificially increase serotonin, and that's what makes people feel less blue. Clinical studies have also linked the production of dopamine with meditation. Dopamine is the neurotransmitter that helps create feelings of pleasure and reward (just like chocolate, but without the calories.)

    Meditation is believed to influence the sympathetic nervous system, keeping blood pressure, respiration, and heart rate in check. When poorly controlled, these are the physical parameters that go hand in hand with feelings of stress and anxiety.

    There's no question that stress and anxiety are linked to a wide variety of maladies, including heart attacks, high blood pressure, digestive issues, sexual dysfunction, and insomnia. And science concurs that many forms of meditation help reduce stress, starting with mindfulness, as practiced in Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction for example, and Transcendental Meditation, as well as relaxation meditation, guided meditations, walking meditation, and more.

    Taking care of your whole self

Meditation not only makes our lives more meaningful, but it also offers us a natural healing mechanism.     "Focus on the breathe and eventually you'll reach a deep state of relaxation" Nope. I don't feel it. I enjoy being mindful. But I do not feel any kind of deep state. Anyone else?

    The practice in the flame of a candle.

    Staring at a candle flame was one of the first practices I was taught 35 years ago. The impermanence/dependant origination of the flame/candle. The movement helps keep our focus/interest. The flame depends on so much for it's survival. Air, fuel, and environment in balance. The golden mean. Not insufficient, nor excessive.

    How do I manifest something?

    For example:

    There is this career path I wand to follow very much, but it's a very hard industry to make it in. Of course, I'm working towards my goals, but I tend to get overwhelmed and would like to ask the universe for some help.

    How do I go about manifesting this dream job?

    Other things I want to manifest is good health for my mom, happiness and luck for my brother in his work place, and positivity and love and good health for everyone.

    Different mind and thought

    We people have different mind and thought from others that's because we have gone through different life which means different memories different environment etc.. so actually it is impossible to understand others perfectly. so what we need to do is recognizing that we are all different and that we are not always right. so meditating and accepting others without stereotype and personal thought is really important
