| Posted: 16 Oct 2020 06:41 PM PDT Hey all! First, thanks for taking the time to read this and for any suggestions you may have. I've tried 3 or 4 different times in my life to get into yoga. I've tried studios, at home with videos, books, tapes, you name it and I've done it. I quit for the same reason: it's just not fulfilling to me. I started again within the last 2 weeks because I could honestly use something that reduces anxiety, centers me, and helps me find my strength. I downloaded a Glo subscription today and I'm finding myself with the same problem as before. How long does it take before I feel any effects or feel it working? I can't calm my mind like it's so easy for other yogis to do. I really want to be able to push my body and feel calm and grounded but I just don't. I almost feel like it's a chore. | Anyone here practice ishnaan (cold water therapy)? Posted: 16 Oct 2020 06:40 PM PDT I'm currently doing a 200 hr YTT. Last week we learned about ishnaan (cold water therapy). I did an ice bath in 32* F water and LOVED the experience. Stayed in there for nearly 10 minutes which, according to my teachers, is very impressive for a first timer haha. Anyway, I'm now stoked about ishnaan want to incorporate it into regular practice. I'm hoping to get some info from others who practice ishnaan and hear about their experience with it. How do you go about regularly/frequently practicing ishnaan? What has been your experience regularly practicing ishnaan long term? Benefits you've personally experienced? Pretty much I'd love to hear anything about anyones's experience with ishnaan. Thanks! [link] [comments] |
Tldr: my nose and butt make yoga hard sometimes Posted: 16 Oct 2020 08:25 AM PDT Does anyone else feel like their nose is being crushed into the ground during child's pose/ postures that bring your forehead to the earth? Or do I just have a massive nose lol Similarly, does anyone else have a hard time pressing their low back into the mat in recliner postures? I feel like unless I have my feet down to tuck my tail bone by tilting my pelvis, my butt just naturally forces my low back off the ground 🥺 Anyone have any thoughts on these little quirks in my practice? Work-arounds? [link] [comments]
Posted: 16 Oct 2020 12:48 PM PDT My first day of beginner level yoga and my body was cramping in spots I didn't even know I had! I was shaking and quivering more than a stripper's ass cheeks when she's dancing on the pole! [link] [comments]
Yoga teachers on youtube like Lauren Taus? Posted: 16 Oct 2020 05:40 AM PDT Hi! I've been doing yoga with Cat Meffan and liked her style of teaching, but other than a few poses here and there it wasn't challenging enough. I tried ashtanga but felt like it was doing more harm than good. I tried this yoga sequence with Lauren Taus and really enjoyed it, I was sweating but still felt very relaxed by the end of the flow. Sadly I wasn't able to find anything similar to this video, and was wondering if you guys could help me out? [link] [comments]
Posted: 16 Oct 2020 07:02 AM PDT Hello, I'm looking for introductory (first time doing yoga) classes to improve flexibility and strength. Ideally, the lessons would be short (circa 20 minutes) so I could do them before work. Does anybody know if good online resources for something like this? [link] [comments]
Could I do it? Should I even try? Posted: 16 Oct 2020 12:15 AM PDT So a few years ago I was in a hit and run accident that resulted in 20% loss of mobility in my right wrist and some nerve damage and arthritis. Basically I am unable to lay my hand flat to do even a push-up, my wrist just doesn't bend that far anymore. I have two questions: 1: Can I or should I even pursue yoga? Would I be able to achieve the poses that take place. 2: If yes, could yoga help me regain some range of motion in my wrist? I will mention that I am able to lift weights and do strength training (usually because they don't require me wrist to bend all to much). [link] [comments]
Hot yoga class is, uh, too hot. Posted: 16 Oct 2020 02:10 AM PDT I regularly go to Hot Vinyasa yoga, and I generally do alright. But there's one particular class at my studio on a Thursday evening that happens right after a Bikram class. They obviously don't air out the room between classes, probably for energy saving reasons but come on, we're in a pandemic. Let some air in. From the second you walk in, it's hot. Like, dripping sweat before the class has even started. Like, Bikram heat and humidity PLUS the previous class's body heat and sweat humidity PLUS the heat humidity being constantly pumped out. Ugh. I tried going to that class for the second time yesterday, thinking the first time was a dud but nope. Three people had to leave before the class was up. Of the people that remained, half were in child's pose for most of the class, while the instructor had to change her lesson on the fly to something slower and less strenuous because even those that pushed through weren't coping. By the end of it, the instructor was holding a door open to get some cool air in. The whole thing felt a bit insane. I decided yesterday that I won't be going to that class anymore with the current time slots. It's too hot to ever become bearable. Should I politely email the studio and let them know? I don't want to come across rude or demanding, but it's a little ridiculous. [link] [comments]
Posted: 16 Oct 2020 06:15 AM PDT Okay so I'm sure we've all seen those funny posts where someone is pictured in Happy baby pose, butthole to the sun lol BUT, I was wondering, there has to actually be SOME truth to that? Right? Like is that 100% a joke and I just wanna be naked outside or maybe I should sun my butt? Thank you and yes this is mostly a serious question [link] [comments]
How can I improve my head stand? Without using the wall! Posted: 15 Oct 2020 09:18 PM PDT Hey guys! Very very entry level yogi here - I've practiced on and off for years but mostly take classes whenever I can or do YouTube videos whenever I feel stressed. In short, not committed at all Anyway, over quarantine I decided to learn how to head stand. I can do it with the wall as my guide but I'm desperately trying to get away from the wall to do it whenever. Any tips on how I can work my way from the wall?? Thanks! [link] [comments]
