Funny but surely we can relate

Does anyone else feel more 'crunchy' now that you do yoga...?

    Posted: 15 Oct 2020 09:53 AM PDT

Don't get me wrong, my strength and flexibility have increased tenfold since I took up yoga a year ago.

But I have noticed that my body is a lot more clicky and crunchy now. My shoulders click when I roll them up and back, my back clicks / crunches when I do a backbend or forward fold, and my hips make loud pops after pigeon and other hip openers, and so on-- all of this feels really good, like a release, and never painful. But I feel like I NEED to do yoga in one way to release these kinks and clicks, which I didn't have before.

Does anyone else relate...? Could it be because of increased flexibility and joint / muscle mobility?

Yoga has helped me in so many ways so I decided to splurge on a nice mat as a little gift to myself :)

    What is best for me

    Posted: 15 Oct 2020 06:16 PM PDT

I've neglected to take care of my body outside the gym for years and because of this I have been dealing with nagging joint and lower back problems. I'm interested in implementing yoga as a way to rehabilitate and open up my range of motion. Which form of yoga is best for heavier beginners?

[COMP] half spinal twist - one of my favorite poses. Combining this pose with breath of fire feels really good too...

Acute pain in left rib after forward fold

    Posted: 15 Oct 2020 04:23 PM PDT

Hello! I was doing my daily routine of morning stretching and while doing the forward fold I felt an intense pain on the left side of my rib cage, just below the pectoralis. As soon as I felt it, I stopped doing the pose and the acute pain continued for a few seconds afterwards. Now I feel sore around the area and it kinda worsens with certain movement patterns. This pain happened once before many months ago but it didn't persist as it has done now. I would like to clarify that I'm not that flexible yet, as I can barely touch the ground with my fingertips

What could be causing this pain and how may I prevent it from happening again? Also, how may I relieve it?

Thanks a lot in advance for your help!

When are you truly "warmed up"?

    Posted: 15 Oct 2020 07:19 PM PDT

    Hi, All!

I usually start my practice with gentle movements, and then, before assuming the long and deep stretches, I do several minutes of sun salutations/warrior series, transitioning to one minute per breath so that I do start to feel "warm" before I do things like hold pigeon, etc. Lately I haven't had quite as long as I usually do, though, and I'm wondering: how can you tell if you're truly ready to ease into the long, deep poses? If it feels good, is that sign enough?

Any good apps/flows that are awesome to use to construct flows and classes? I've only tried Flow

    Posted: 15 Oct 2020 03:39 PM PDT

    Hi!

I'm getting back into teaching and wanna see what apps or sites people use to construct classes.

I taught fitness for years and taught yoga after college (and completing my YTT of course) on the east and west coast, but I stopped after moving back to Portland. I still am an avid yogi, but I just moved on to other work.

Now, I've been wanting to get back into it teaching: specific yoga vids, and maybe try some small sliding scale or volunteer zoom classes. I some vids on FB live for a friends fitness company, but I know I need to put way more time back in to teach good classes.

Back in 2014/2015 apps weren't everywhere like they are now, and I'm wondering if there any apps that are good for putting flows together ? I found one called flow that I have tinkerer around with. I might try the 7 day trial but idk if people take advantage of apps now or just write it out like I used to do.

Any new tech that make visualizing and putting flows together easier?! Any and all advice and suggestions are welcome. Thank you!!

YouTube series that has clear progression from pose to pose?

    Posted: 15 Oct 2020 03:16 AM PDT

I'm looking to get into yoga more seriously (have attended quite a number of lessons at yoga studios prior), and am trying to find YouTube series/resources that actually say 'ok let's learn pose A, and how we can get to pose A; once you've learnt pose A, we should learn pose B' etc. I've looked through the wiki/FAQ but haven't quite found one with such a progression (I may be wrong).

    Forward Fold Causing Nausia

    Posted: 15 Oct 2020 10:21 AM PDT

Hello! I recently started getting into Yoga. I am doing the 30 days of yoga with Adriene on youtube and I really like to so far, however I'm having trouble with the forward fold. I get nauseous and sometimes feel a little dizzy when I got into forward fold, has anyone else experienced this? Is this something that might just go away with more practice??

    Therapy yoga discussion

    Posted: 15 Oct 2020 12:07 AM PDT

Hello yoga teachers, I might need your help here.

So I've been handling a student for almost 10 months, she's having osteoarthritic condition on both knees and she's also obese. I've been giving her some standing asanas, lying down asanas, pranyama, chair yoga and shavasana. She cannot bend her knees at all, but now her condition has improved, even though she can't bend her knees, her pain has reduced so well. Now that, she is asking me why she hasn't lost weight these ten months and her intention is to lose weight.. What can be the proper solution for her issue ?

Edit - Thank you guys for your response, you have no idea how much your comments have been helpful.
