Update: MY FIRST CLASS WAS AMAZING! ALEADY BOOKED MY NEXT CLASS!

    Posted: 18 Oct 2020 11:35 AM PDT

I absolutely loved it, from the moment I walked into the studio it was nothing but good vibes. The class was smaller due to COVID... it was a beginners class so I didn't feel bad, and also it was another "newbie" there so that really put me at ease. The teacher was very knowledgeable and made sure she educated us on everything we were doing while letting us be ourselves on the mat. I feel so relaxed and calm now that I'm home. I can't wait for next Sunday to go back! I'm so glad I went. I'm proud of myself and I feel good!!! I know it takes a couple times to go to get the true feels but I felt something soon as I got to my car, I guess it's different for everyone.

    Bruised knees from yoga?

    Posted: 18 Oct 2020 08:17 PM PDT

I've been doing some yoga on and off for years but lately I've been taking it more seriously and practicing everyday. I'm getting bruises on my knees from kneeling poses like low lunge or one legged pigeon and I'm wondering if anyone else had any problems with this?

I have a 6mm mat so I'm pretty well padded but I'm wondering if I should put a blanket down? Or is it something I'll adjust to? I'm a young woman, bruised knees can get looks you know?

Yoga vs Stretching to become more flexible

    Posted: 18 Oct 2020 05:00 PM PDT

Hi everyone, I (23 M) was diagnosed with Pelvic Floor dysfunction back in May. The issue is, that my pelvic floor is constantly in spasm and my PT says this is due to my hamstrings and surrounding muscles being so tight it constantly triggers my PF to fire.

Anyway, I have been trying to get more flexible via stretching since May. And I really have not made any progress according to my PT.

I am interested in trying to add yoga into my routine in order to become more flexible and was wondering if anyone had any advice/tips on using yoga to get more flexible.

Is there any reason to expect a full yoga routine to be more powerful than constant Hamstring stretches?

    Thanks!

YWA day 15 I am open

    Posted: 18 Oct 2020 08:45 PM PDT

I found this one challenging for me. I'm not the greatest at balance and was trying to do a pose. But couldn't quite nail it. I think it was the half moon. I kept wobbling trying to keep my left arm up.

When Does Natural Yoga Mat Wash Expire?

    Posted: 18 Oct 2020 06:48 PM PDT

I broke out my old Yoga Mat that hasn't seen the light of day in over a year. It was dirty as hell so I went to get my Manduka Citric Scent Natural Mat Wash to disinfect it before I used it. Right as I started spraying, I realized that I've had it for almost 2 years (bought in Mid-December 2018). Immediately, I noticed that the scent was a little off. It wasn't noxious like the chemicals I use to clean the toilet (Lysol), but it wasn't pleasant like it used to be as well. I immediately stopped spraying and went to air out my mat. I also opened all the windows in my room and blasted 3 fans for ventiliation. So this begs the question: how long does an opened bottle of yoga mat disinfectant made of essential oils last before it goes rancid, and did I potentially expose myself to some toxic air?

So far I haven't developed any negative symptoms too

Something I’ve noticed about self guided yoga

    Posted: 17 Oct 2020 10:11 PM PDT

I used to only do instructor guided yoga and could never imagine any other way, but since COVID started, I've been practicing exclusively at home. I was taking virtual classes, but my studio opened up again and they limited the number of online classes available.

I tried out some pre-recorded classes, but it's not really the same being instructed that way. I just felt less motivated.

So I started doing self guided practice, because who could quit yoga? It's weird that there was a time when I was unable to imagine not having an instructor now. It's so nice to do a flow that just feels exactly right for your own body — not modifying someone else's, but just doing what feels good.

I also notice that it's a lot easier to get into a meditative state when I'm done. Like being so focused on my own movement and breath and imagining my body working through the flow instead of just getting into the queued pose and waiting for the next instruction gets my mind in a much better state to connect with my body.

Anyone else have positive (or negative!) takeaways from moving your practice into a more self guided flow?

Returning to yoga with an extra 60lbs has been difficult. I'm new here and look forward to the journey together.

    Posted: 18 Oct 2020 01:49 AM PDT

I have recently begun practicing yoga again and am noticing that although I have kept much of my flexibility, my size has made many poses more difficult to breathe during. I am set on continuing my practice and am working on diet adjustments. I've just noticed it's a little demotivating knowing the journey will be much harder getting back to where I want to be. Currently 5' 8" 230lbs. I know that I'm overweight and I guess I'm just posting this to 1. See if anyone else out there struggles with this, and 2. Encourage those like me to keep going and know that you aren't alone.

Tldr: my fat makes twists and bends hard to breath during. I'm working on a new me and the journey has just begun.

Creating a small collection of printed routines, looking for more

    Posted: 18 Oct 2020 06:03 AM PDT

I have been doing yoga classes for years, partly because I enjoy not having to think about which move to do next. If there is a strong routine set out for me, I can let my mind focus on each individual move and not where I am in a routine.

So I have started a small printed-out yoga routine collection, but am looking for more. Do you have a favourite site for yoga routines, preferably with a figure of what the move looks like (just in case my 6am brain says "What is child's pose again?" Any recommendations would be awesome.
