    First class!

    Posted: 17 Oct 2020 07:09 PM PDT

I'm 25 years old and I have severe anxiety... I've been told yoga will help. Well, I finally decided to give it a try and I have my first class tomorrow!!! I'm so excited yet super nervous. I'm super slim & I was thinking sports tank top & leggings for attire. But I'm not sure... again I'm super duper nervous 😬

[COMP] Best forearm stand attempt to date. I’m weirdly most proud of the dismount. It’s controlled, I’m not falling out of it, even after holding it for a beat.

    Favourite budget friendly yoga clothes?

    Posted: 17 Oct 2020 06:25 PM PDT

I'm very in love with lululemon... my bank account is not. What's your favourite reasonably priced yoga brand? I'm looking for tank tops and sports bras.

    Weak Wrists?

    Posted: 17 Oct 2020 03:48 PM PDT

    Hi all,

I've started doing hot yoga twice per week and am totally in love. I'd like to gradually move up to 3, and then some day 5 days per week, but for now I have to take at least a day between each practice, because my wrists get sore after. I'm a writer, and I have to be really careful not to mess up my wrists or my job can be an issue.

Has anyone had this issue? If you slowly work up to multiple classes per week, does it get better?

Can yoga induce asthma/ an asthma attack?

    Posted: 17 Oct 2020 06:59 PM PDT

So currently I'm doing yoga at home. This is the first time I did it for 60 minutes. Normally I do it for 20-30 minutes and I'm fine. But this time I feel like my asthma is acting up after the session.

I tried looking up on Google if yoga can induce asthma but literally all the results are "can yoga treat asthma" blah blah blah, and I'm here like NO THIS IS NOT WHAT IM LOOKING FOR! So Google has been no help, which is why I'm here. Thank you 😭

Progression from beginner to those crazy asans

    Posted: 17 Oct 2020 06:12 AM PDT

    Hi,

I'm quite new into yoga. Started as a way to stretch a bit and get more 'space' in my hips and spine. It's going quite well, few weeks and I can feel the difference!

Now is my question, how to progress further? I would like to increase the flexibility, stability and strength. I can do a crow (was able to as long as I remember, or at least something resembling it ^^ ) but how do I move from it to something more demanding? Is there a common way of progression to hand stand, with some milestones; or is it a matter of trying, trying, trying?

My body and practice has changed so much since this pandemic started. (Discussion, recommendations, anecdotes)

    Posted: 17 Oct 2020 10:41 AM PDT

I have been practicing yoga for 7 years, I started when I was 20 years old. Frankly, I don't remember what my body felt like before practicing yoga but I can see how much good I did for myself by incorporating yoga into my daily life.

Since the pandemic started my physical practice has been put on the back burner. In the first couple months March-May I hardly practiced. I regret this because I feel like my body is in physical pain everyday. I'm back to practicing but only in small doses. Close to everyday 10-30 minutes each. I feel like my hips, and hamstrings are semi back to its range of motion before covid, despite the silent screams of my hamstrings saying otherwise in a forward fold or my hip flexer in warrior two. It feels good, but not "effortless" like before. My back though.... omg it hurts! My upper back. Upper, middle, lower is just so tight! Back bends have never been my strong suit to say the least, however my back has never been this tight, its painful. Any recommendations for a tight upper back?

I would love to hear your yoga journey during this pandemic. Whether its the physical practice or not. How are you feeling? and then for the expert yogis do you think I will be able to get back to the way my body was before? and I don't mean how it looks but how it feels.

    Broke Beginner

    Posted: 17 Oct 2020 10:06 AM PDT

Where do you go to learn yoga? All I'm able to do is watch YouTube videos but I've only found two people that kinda, not really explain the foundations behind the pose. I love yoga but I'm brand spanking new at it with no background and would love to learn the history and traditions as well as the art itself.

Alo Warrior Mat- does anyone have it? The final sale aspect makes me hesitate.

    Posted: 17 Oct 2020 08:45 AM PDT

I'm interested in trying the Lululemon or the Alo Warrior mat after finding the Manduka mat too slippery, and feeling uncertain about that ever changing because some people say it does, and other's don't (and I don't want to use a towel).

I want the Lululemon in all black because of the staining some people report, but they only carry it in their 71" length, which is a few inches shorter than my ideal length. The Alo mat is 74", which is perfect for me, but I'm turned off by the fact that it's final sale. I would understand a 30 day return window, but I don't understand why they don't stand behind their product at all- what if I buy and find it slippery or insufficient for my knees? I'd love some feedback on this mat if anyone has it, as I don't completely trust the reviews on their website.

(I'm also not interested in a Jade because they don't offer grey or black)

    Starting Yoga Post-Op

    Posted: 17 Oct 2020 08:08 AM PDT

    Hey everyone,

I'm new to Reddit in general but I've been looking at this page and have been interested in joining! I recently had a pilonidal cystectomy and have been recovering well. However I'm ready to start working it again! Yoga has always been something I'm interested in but I've never fully committed. My doctor told me that I won't be able to do exercises like sit ups again because the rocking motion could cause the cyst to come back. I was curious if anyone had any suggestions as to what types of yoga could potentially be beneficial to me? Or if yoga would be a good alternative to traditional calisthenics. Any suggestions would be helpful!!

    Non-oil based mat cleaner?

    Posted: 17 Oct 2020 06:55 AM PDT

Hi everyone, a few months back I bought an Alo mat (which I love more than any other mat I've ever had) and you cannot use traditional mat cleaners, because they can't have anything with oil based soap.

I have been cleaning it with vinegar and water mix, which is what is recommended by Alo and works extremely well. But, my husband and kids (and myself if I'm being honest) can't stand the smell. I definitely miss my lavender scented cleaning routine.

I have searched the internet for an alternative but I haven't found a solution yet. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks in advance!

    Tips for hypermobility?

    Posted: 17 Oct 2020 05:43 AM PDT

I have some hypermobility issues. My elbows and knees hyperextend, my shoulders and hips pop out of their sockets..its a mess. It also makes yoga sometimes difficult, and results in a lot of "weird" or "unnoticed" injuries.

Does anyone have tips on how to combat this? I've been trying to do things like purposely keep my knees/elbows bent, or be mindful about not "stretching to my fullest" at parts in order to prevent me from going too far, but that sometimes makes it a lot harder or a lot less rewarding.

I don't want to break my wrists

    Posted: 16 Oct 2020 10:26 PM PDT

(Im on my phone so sorry for any weird formatting)

I have been doing yoga come on to a 6 months, threw this time I have greatly improved my strength and flexibility. Over the last week I tried to challenge myself and do a crow pose because I eventually want to do handstands ect. But I've had an issue with some pressure and pain in my wrists and I dont know how to avoid this (is this normal in the beginning). I should mention that I have broken both wrists in the past but it has been years since the breaks and they are fully healed, could this effect my ability to do crow pose and such. I would really appreciate some tips and advice because I really don't want to break my wrists... again.
