| Posted: 22 Oct 2020 08:08 PM PDT Okay, So I just had to share my feelings about this somewhere and Reddit was the first place I knew how, I was watching the Joe Rogan podcast and he was talking about Yoga, I'm a beginner singer, been singing a year, and Posture has always completely eluded me, people are very willing to tell me to fix my posture without me having any idea what they mean, I don't know if this is because of my Aspergers or if this is a common thing. Anyways I decided I was going to take it upon myself to do an hour of yoga, just to give it a try, I had tried it in the past but I'm 20, so when I was trying it as a teenager, I wasn't fully paying attention or comprehending what I was meant to do, I watched this amazing youtube video that just did a 20-minute intro into Yoga, and the first thing she said was: 'Head over heart over the pelvis.' And nothing has ever clicked faster, I wasn't perfect, or even halfway decent at doing any of the poses, let alone breathing DURING them, and to be honest, I can feel a bit of tension even now sitting like this, but after maybe 20 minutes I could almost feel my body saying 'Thank god finally.' So I then decided to do a bit of shadow boxing, with this new posture approach and after watching 2 more videos just doing yoga and stretching out following as best I could and just with that idea of head over heart over pelvis posture, everything felt so much more connected and stronger, I haven't attempted singing yet, but I'm wholeheartedly positive it's going to help with that as well, I'll 100% be taking this up as a new hobby of mine. Thank you yoga! [link] [comments] |

| Yoga but without the props for beginners? Posted: 22 Oct 2020 08:00 PM PDT I haven't been doing yoga for very long at all but have been looking at playlists on youtube. I've been doing the same 10 minute video every night before bed for a little over a week and started noticing more flexibility and less pain in my hip joints, which is fantastic! Now I want to try to do yoga every morning and have been looking at some playlists. I haven't watched all the videos, but some of them show blocks and other 'props' that I don't have currently. Can one do yoga without these props? Am I getting ahead of myself here? The only thing I have right now is a yoga mat and some of those little hand weights. I've seen videos that tell you how to use household items for straps and what not, but not all of them do that. I'm asking because I'm out of shape and very weak right now, but after seeing stuff yoga people on youtube can do I really want to start to get stronger so I can do handstands and stuff. | Posted: 22 Oct 2020 05:04 PM PDT I just came from a class where the teacher used this phrase to move from 3 legged dog into an arm balance. Options are often given like this at the studio I go to. Sometimes I can do them (like wild thing and crow) and sometimes I can't (any other arm balances lol). It usually doesn't bother me if I can't do a pose and the teacher moves on pretty quickly if not everyone is doing it. Today it felt like we spent forever on this arm balance with literally no instructions other than "lift your feet". I was just kneeling on my mat watching the teacher. How can a pose ever be in my practise if it's never actually taught? It was so frustrating! So my question is what should I have done in this situation? I don't want to be that person who holds up a class with loads of questions but I also don't want to leave a class feeling frustrated. I'd love to hear any suggestions. Or I'd also be happy to listen to anyone else vent about their pet peeves :) [link] [comments] |
| Recommendations for certifications abroad Posted: 22 Oct 2020 08:44 PM PDT Namaste yogis. I was wondering if anyone got a certification abroad that would recommend. I, personally, got my first 200 hr ttc at Varkala Beach in India at an amazing local school call Adishakti Yoga Shala. It was the best experience, I had incredible teachers and would definitely do it again. The price was really nice too, I paid 1000 USD for the certification with accommodation and lunches (for 21 days). I'm looking for another ttc similar to that. Would love to hear about your own experiences 🙏❤️. [link] [comments] |
| Can yoga fix joint/muscle pains? Posted: 22 Oct 2020 01:03 PM PDT Hi! I'm reasonably new to yoga, I started a little at the beginning of lockdown and got very into it since moving into my own place. I've been taking it slow and easy since I have EDS and arthritis, and was wondering if any other yoga practicers have any experience with pain either getting better or worse while doing yoga. I generally keep fit otherwise - lifting/cardio but I have found myself enjoying yoga more than anything else :) just curious if anyone has similar experience! [link] [comments] |
| Posted: 22 Oct 2020 03:01 PM PDT Hey everyone, I'm curious, how old is the physical practice of the asanas? If you know, can you provide citations as well please? [link] [comments] |
| Question about possible shoes for practice Posted: 22 Oct 2020 06:37 PM PDT Hello all, first time posting here and apologies for any formatting issues I am on mobile. I recently had to get custom orthotics to wear in all my shoes to fix an issue with my legs/hips. They're great and I have no more hip pain during the day. The problem is when I do my practice my hips start to hurt because I'm standing/moving around without the orthotics. Does anyone know of any shoes designed for yoga that would be good to put orthotics in? I see a lot of yoga socks online but I don't think they'd work. TL;DR I'm trying to find shoes I can wear during my practice that can have orthotics in them. Thanks for any help! [link] [comments] |
| Posted: 22 Oct 2020 08:08 AM PDT hey all, I know this is not everyone's cup of tea for their practice, however studios in my region had to shutter temporarily again and I thought I'd share some live sets I've mixed to deepen my at home practice. the music used is a mix of downtempo, organic, and deep electronic. feel free to flow along with me. yoga playlists [link] [comments] |

| Desperately trying to find yt kundalini classes where the teacher doesn’t praise Yogi Bhajan. Posted: 22 Oct 2020 06:17 AM PDT Seems like 99% of kundalini classes on YouTube the teacher, either in the description or the class itself, references/praises YB. I know basically all kundalini in the west is under his lineage, but I'm trying to find classes where the teachers are breaking from association with him. Any resources greatly appreciated!! | Best way to learn spesifuc poses Posted: 22 Oct 2020 11:23 AM PDT I started practicing recently but because of the current Covid-19 situation the studio is closed so Im continuing at home. I'm using Down Dog app which is great, only thing that I wish it would add is some sort of "poses library" meaning a place where I can examine slowly (and even not during practice) the right way to to certain poses. I fill like I could really benefit from such source. Is there any other all/site which does that? Thank in advance. [link] [comments] |
