Guys I'm so excited, I was working on an online 200 hour YTTC since May because coronavirus really freed up my Summer. I did my exam yesterday and got my certificate today 🥳 I never thought when I started yoga in 2013 that I'd be here 😄 Anyways that's my rant over, thanks for listening

NOTE: 5 Foods to Incorporate into Your Yogic Diet

    Posted: 10 Nov 2020 06:46 PM PST

Eating right is an essential activity for your yoga practice, so here are a few tips on the types of foods that you can bring to the table as a yogi.

    1.Fresh fruit and vegetables

Always try to prepare a fresh meal with fresh, locally sourced fruit and veggies. Be sure to take note of what foods are in season where you're living. Having a healthy mix of vegetables and fruits in your diet gives you all the healthy antioxidants and immune boosting nutrients your body needs for your yoga practice.

    2.Herbal Teas

Herbal teas tend to contain herbs such as black pepper, cinnamon, ginger, cardamom and turmeric, which all help boost the body's immune system and improve metabolism. Some popular ones to try before or after your practice are peppermint, chamomile, green, and ginger and lemon tea.

    3.Legumes and grains

Rice, chickpeas, lentils, beans, peas and so many more. Legumes and grains are easy to digest and provide your body with a great source of protein alternative to meat.

    1. Water

Hydration before, during and after yoga practice will make you perform better, increasing strength and flexibility. It is great for helping us to detox our bodies and provides us with the oxygen we need to maintain clarity and focus throughout our practice.

    1. All the spices like ginger, cumin, turmeric and fresh herbs

Herbs and spices directly support the mind and also make your food taste delicious. According to Ayurveda, spices act as healing foods that support a healthy body and stimulate its repair and rejuvenation.

Our nutrition works the same way as our asana practice, and it's just as important. The same way that each of our individual practices differs, so do our dietary requirements and our individual idea's about what is right and wrong when it comes to food. There is no specific diet that is suitable for all of us; however, incorporating the foods above will help to make you feel good, physically and emotionally. As long as you have a healthy relationship with food, and not overly restrictive in giving your body what it needs, your mind, body and spirit can all positively function together.

    Chest pain?

    Posted: 10 Nov 2020 04:47 PM PST

I did a 20 minute session for the first time in months yesterday. I did some cobras and some camel pose where I flipped into child's pose repeatedly. Today I'm now having pain in just the left side of my chest that comes and goes. Could this be from the yoga?

Update to my post on yoga and endometriosis from the other day

    Posted: 10 Nov 2020 04:05 PM PST

Just for the search results in case anyone else is curious.

I did my first class during what I'm able to identify as a "flare up" and I've determined:

    Twists: bad

    Chair: bad

    Side bending: bad

Downward dog: was ok till I started feeling nauseated

    Standing figure 4: good

    Reclined pigeon: good

    Side lunge: good

    Warrior II: good

    Reverse warrior: good

    Half moon: bad

    Side plank: bad

    Cat cow: good

    Handstand: nope

    Chataranga: nope

    Low lunge: good

Dolphin: ok till I felt nauseated

    Thread the needle: good

Twisted lunge: bad (but we did this weird thread the needle thing during it which was niceeeee)

Moving in general felt good! This was a level 1.5 class and I think I will stick to easier and gentle classes during flare ups. I felt my hips and pelvis getting kind of agitated with all the movements. I also started feeling nauseous partway through class so there's that.

Do any of you give your dog an adjustment in downward facing dog to help them get a deeper stretch, or just me? Pretty sure she likes it.

Has yoga helped your mental health?

    Posted: 10 Nov 2020 12:45 PM PST

Hi, I'd be interested in reading your personal experience with yoga and mental health. Any improvement?

Do you have favourite slow and relaxing YouTube videos/channels specialising in yoga for mental health, mainly panic attacks, ptsd and grief?

I've been able to find some, but there are videos that claim to be "gentle * and" restorative " but they're actually quite fast paced and fitness oriented.

The Psychology of Kundalini Yoga: Notes of the Seminar Given in 1932

    Posted: 10 Nov 2020 08:59 PM PST

"We will go on with further information about the chakras. You remember, I told you last time that I would analyze the meaning of the symbolic attributes of themūlādhāra. You probably have noticed that in analyzing these symbols we have followed very much the same method that we use in dream analysis: we look at all the symbols and try to construct the meaning which seems to be indicated by the totality of the attributes. In that way we reached the conclusion thatmūlādhārawas a symbol of our conscious earthly personal existence."

    Micro-dosing psilocybin before practicing

    Posted: 10 Nov 2020 02:44 PM PST

I've gotten into the habit of micro dosing psilocybin before my practice about once a week, and it's the biggest yoga game-changer I've ever found! It makes yoga feel so incredibly good. It increases concentration, connection, flexibility, and balance. I almost feel like I'm on yoga-steroids when I do it. It's had a great effect on my mental health, and allowed me to get more in tune it my practice and with myself.

I would highly recommend it if you've never tried it! It's been truly life changing for me.

    Looking for habit/workout support!

Hey all! I'm looking for an accountability buddy, or eve just ideas to get me into the habit of yoga. I love it, but I feel like it's harder and harder to create the habit when I don't have classes with other people working towards the same goal to look forward to. Any advice/people looking for the same thing?

Yoga for PTSD links? Also — anyone got Links to Doom Metal Yoga live classes?

    Posted: 10 Nov 2020 06:32 AM PST

    Friends,

I've spent this past calendar year battling PTSD and Panic Disorder thanks to a Domestic Abuser // abusive ex-partner and though I absolutely love practicing Yoga (I've been taking weekly Yin classes and several Vinyasas) but I find that some classes are purely fitness oriented and actually set some of my triggers off which tanks the whole practice. Same with Breath of Fire, which sometimes gives me a Panic Attack. Does anyone have any links to some intuitive, introspective practices that are more concerned with my Cerebellum than my waistline?

Also, this is going to sound weird...but thanks to said Abuser, the word "namaste" is now a trigger (when I say trigger, I mean it induces physical symptoms like syncope, PAs and seizes...I broke my cheek on the bathroom floor last month, its scary stuff) and its really hard for me to find videos or Teachers who don't end class with the word "Namaste." If anyone has any specifics they could provide me with I'd love to put them on my list.

Final Q: I love the idea of Doom Metal Yoga but have never got to do it in person — does anyone out there have a Zoom class link or Youtube videos? My searches have only yielded testimonials.

I appreciate it like you wouldn't believe, digital pals.

    Stay Safe 💜

Those that have completed a RYT program online during covid, what has your experience been?

    Posted: 10 Nov 2020 03:48 PM PST

I'm thinking of doing a YTT 200 online next spring. I was hoping to hear about others experience doing this and what you think the main differences are between doing it online versus in person, and if you would recommend it.

A concern I have is with adjustments and alignments, how have you worked around not having that?

    Thank you!

Hi guys! I wanted to know if handstand trainers like this actually help you develop the strength and balance to be able to do a handstand unassisted? What has been your experience with them? Thanks in advance!

Trying to find good non-relaxing yoga stretch routine

    Posted: 10 Nov 2020 12:21 PM PST

I am looking for a yoga routine that puts the emphasis on stretching, not the relaxation. I have tried a few googled yoga routines and they start with 2-5 mins of relaxation, which I don't want. I find other ways to relax :) . I workout regularly and just need a good off day warm-up and stretch routine.

    Any suggestions?

Does anyone know when CorePower yoga is thinking of returning to in-person classes ?

    Posted: 10 Nov 2020 10:31 AM PST

Covid has been extremely hard for because I have lost my favorite thing in the whole entire world which is going to CorePower yoga. I still work and run every single day and do weight lifting to stay in shape but it just doesn't give me the release hot yoga does . I have been doing yoga classes on YouTube and it's just not the same. I really loved the heat it's super challenging but the feeling after is unmatched. Also just being in a room with a instructor in front of you as well as a assistant just helps me so much . For some reason being in my house and having to keep looking up at my tv just doesn't allow me to lock in and focus like I did at CorePower . It has really begun to effect me mentally I crave being able to wake up and go to a class with one of favorite teachers .

Goal: proper execution of surya namaskara

    Posted: 10 Nov 2020 02:59 AM PST

Hello 👋🏽. At the age of 42, I tried to follow online instructions on how to execute the surya namskara. I realized that I have zero flexibility. Even with bent knees I can only get my fingertips to touch the ground. When I attempt to bring my leg between the arms from the downward dog position, my feet barely make it to my hips :( Looking for help. My goal is to be able to do the surya namskara properly but am struggling.
