Yoga for when you are sad.

    Posted: 28 Feb 2021 06:59 PM PST

I (F27) recently got my heart broken (about a week and a half ago) and I find it affecting my yoga flow. I usually do yoga in the morning at 5am for 35 minutes but lately I find it hard to concentrate or do some basic poses (I'm a beginner FYI, going on 8 momths). I keep falling off and yesterday when I did the down dog, I ended up with mild back pain instead of the usual relaxed and fulfilled feeling I get after yoga. I love yoga because it helps with back pain and also because I work 12-13 hour shifts, seated all through. Any tips on which poses I can do, or what I can do differently?

How to make a yoga class creative?

    Posted: 28 Feb 2021 12:39 PM PST

I feel like I'm in a yoga rut. I've been teaching for 2 years, and I want to offer something MORE. Something creative or different or fun. Is there anything special you've seen in a yoga class that was memorable to you? Thank you for your inspiration and energy. Xx

    From Yogateacher to cooperate world?

    Posted: 28 Feb 2021 04:31 AM PST

I have to ask if someone else feels like this because if I'd have this conversation with 25 year old me she'd be kicking my ass. I'm 30 now. So I was one of those vegan, world traveling becoming a yogateacher bitches. Full of ideals.

When I came home in 2017 I thought to myself that I just try out to teach one course, that I at least have tried it. First class, I was hooked like I have never been before in my life. And from that moment on I build a well known local Yogabusiness. Meanwhile I always had a cooperate job where I was successful as well.

So Fall 2020 should have been the year of leaving my cooperate and becoming 100% self employed. Then COVID Hit.

I had to switch to online classes what is still kinda fun but not that much fun. I lost touch with teaching and the joy. So what happened instead I actually fell for my cooperate job, what wasn't possible before because I wanted to stay as non attached as possible. And now here I am feeling content and living in a way the opposite of what I imagined my life would be.

What my issue is here that I'm not 100% sure if this true or not why I hesitate to make a decision here. But god damn making business 24/7 is so damn exhausting when you are not burning for it.

I put sweat, tears, sleepless nights and blood in it and I am scared to make the wrong decision and losing it "all" because my heart is in there too. I miss the burning desire.

So here I am remembering everything my Twenty-Something me worked and fought so hard for, just to drop everything because I feel Cozy, content and happy enough?

It's a good life tho but is it enough?

Anyone have experience with Yovada 200 hr teacher training?

    Posted: 28 Feb 2021 12:25 PM PST

I'm looking to book a teacher training experience for 2021 and I'm interested in one that Yovada is offering in Costa Rica in May. It's hard to find "unbiased" opinions on these things and I'm wondering if anyone has done their training with them and recommends it? I'm looking for an experience to deepen my practice and change my outlook after years of abuse. Any thoughts? I really would like to explore Costa Rica too.

    Help with short hamstrings

    Posted: 28 Feb 2021 02:41 AM PST

I've just been to an osteopath because lately I've had chronic back ache for a while now. They said a major problem for me is that I have short hamstrings, likely caused by growing tall over a short period (I'm 6ft 2).

When I lie on my back, it's impossible for me to lie my legs flat on the floor. My osteopath said it's one of the worst cases of short hamstrings she's seen and this is going to be pulling on my lower back muscles when I'm sitting -- leading to the backache I've been getting.

I've been doing yoga as a mindfulness thing for a few months but I really need to focus on lengthening my hamstrings now. Generally I find any poses designed to stretch them inaccessible.

Any advice on where to begin. My osteopath says that I should be able to make a noticeable difference within weeks not months and gave me a couple of stretches to do, keen to build in variety for a more interesting practice though.

    Thanks for any advice!

    Stretches for lotus pose

    Posted: 28 Feb 2021 12:56 AM PST

I've been wanting to learn better sitting postures for meditation. I now just sit cross-legged. My muscles can't do lotus pose yet. I lack the flexibility in my hips.

Can anyone recommend any poses for stretching the right muscles? Perhaps intermediate sitting postures I should use?

I have a weak right knee, so I want to be super careful not to force it.

40 years of aches and pains

    Posted: 27 Feb 2021 09:34 PM PST

Hi! I stopped in here to ask a question. I am a 40 year old female who is new to yoga. For the better part of 4 years I've had terrible hip pain and sciatica. I injured it exercising and tore the labrum. Thousands of dollars have been spent trying to cure it and I've been told surgery is 50-50 on if it would help. While it got about 50% better over the years, I could not get pain free.

6 weeks ago I started a yoga program. It's probably not the most authentic out there, but it fit all of my goals for myself. The program is Biggest Loser Yoga for Weight Loss. I am not flexible and hated it at first. The only reason I went back is because the next day my hip didn't hurt.

I've been doing the program 3 days a week, and I went from being pain free for 24 hours, to this week having no pain at all. I went 72 hours between yoga sessions and no pain! This is LIFE CHANGING for me.

Here's the lead up to my question though. Today I did the yoga program and felt stiffer the first 10 minutes. I wasn't stiff like pre yoga- before this program I could only sit and reach to my shins. Now I can sit and reach around the arches of my feet. I can downward dog with my heels to the floor now and I couldn't before. I still felt good once warmed up, but I was a little sad to feel less limber when I first started. A good example is a standing forward bend. I went to do it and could not reach the floor.

I'm wondering if I keep practicing, will I get to the point where I could go a week without feeling so stiff to start the next session. Or, will it always be that after a few days my body tightens up. I enjoy feeling young again and yoga has eliminated aches and pains. I love it! I'm wondering how long the good stretched out feeling can last if I ever go on vacation or take more than a couple days off.

    Thanks!

I feel pathetic. I waste money on Cannabis to do yoga because " I think it amplifies me" I don't even know what that means? Anyhow, there's a possibility Cannabis does help stretch muscles more, some amplify ego, others reduce ego etcc It is overall a unique experience to the individual.

    Posted: 28 Feb 2021 01:49 PM PST

I'm just doing too much. Cannabis helps in ways we still don't understand. Since, our knowledge in the biological and chemistry fields is still very narrow. We haven't crossed into the unexplored territory of the EndoCannabinoid System. Do too much and end up getting hungry, stopping the yoga session, and overall just getting lazy. Some of us have overcome this. We continue on high, but when we lose sight of why we are consuming it becomes problematic. There is little evidence to suggest Cannabis does much. However, it does help with pain, inflammation, breathing in ways, and overall is still a plant. Some plants kill you, others eat you, and some are awesome and contain water. The point is I have an addiction. I can't believe I soiled the Yoga of life by continuing to be high. I don't need a high to do yoga. I realize this now. I feel yoga can help addiction patterns. I will try hard again. Plus to make matters worse I'm a bit of a jag off. I mean to a very large extent. I am very horny. Therefore, I must change my ways. Cannabis is more special when it is not abused. Some do far worse than me in terms of consumption. Anyways, to the Yogi community I say use responsibly. Cannabis is good and yoga is good. Not sure if Canga will ever be a thing lol, but be careful with consumption. Many can have horrible experiences. I look out for the women and men out there. Paranoia is a main concern so be cautious. Much amour to the Yoga community!

Propensity to THROW my back out. Yoga worsens it.

    Posted: 28 Feb 2021 05:39 AM PST

Hey! I wanted to make this post for anyone focusing on an at home practice! I am blessed with chronic back problems, rolled ankles and painful shoulder sockets. Most days are manageable & I often excel at maintaining flow & breath when Im really into a good practice. But... I threw my back out. I know my back was painful prior, but I pushed myself to do more yoga in an effort to relieve my back pain. Worsened it! So, let me just say, when you are practicing on your own... please be patient and forgiving. You DO NOT need to make yourself bed ridden for a week like I have and will be... & Im 26! BE CAREFUL WITH YOUR SPINES EVERYONE! Okay thanks 😊
