Big shoutout to Five Parks Yoga! Posted: 16 Feb 2021 11:40 AM PST Erin's YouTube channel is fantastic! Her classes are fun, engaging and challenging. Thanks to her channel I have been practicing almost daily for a year. Her cueing is perfect, instructions are clear and the classes are fun! If you're a beginner I recommend to become familiarized with the poses before practicing with her, because some of the flows move pretty fast. [link] [comments]
Are there any (ex)smokers here who experience lung discomfort in some poses? Posted: 16 Feb 2021 02:45 PM PST I quit smoking a few months ago and while my breathing is better than ever, there are poses which make my lungs feel very tight. Shoulder stand, shoulder rollover and sometimes child's pose with arms tucked behind(depending which pose I'm coming out of) are the few examples that come to mind. The pain lasts for as long as I'm in the pose and while it's not exactly excruciating, it just feels as if my lungs are locking and unlocking as I'm breathing in and out. Holding the breath is particularily painful, but somehow freeing at the same time, if that makes any sense. I'm not asking for medical advice, I just want to know if anyone else experiences discomfort when the lungs are compressed and if it gets better with time. [link] [comments]
Posted: 16 Feb 2021 04:21 PM PST When practicing mudras I was always taught that each finger represents an element and when doing specific mudras it can be healing in certain areas. What is the story/ reasoning for how/why each finger got assigned its element? I only know that Thumb= fire Pointer finger= air Middle finger= space Ring finger= earth Pinky= water Please forgive me if I am incorrect with any information! Thank you for helping! :) [link] [comments]
Does Yoga with Adrienne help tone your body well? Posted: 16 Feb 2021 07:20 PM PST Hello! I'm very new to yoga! I used to work out in a gym and would always lift weights. I started yoga to help with stress and get something more out of it. I thought yoga might help because I lost weight I just need to tone. The yoga I've done so far has been with Adrienne, but only a few times. Will it help with timing? I am hoping to be more tone by summer and will be doing almost daily yoga until then. Any insight would be helpful!! [link] [comments]
Posted: 16 Feb 2021 05:42 AM PST Hi! I was diagnosed with sciatica back in august of '19 and found out that I have a shortening of my L5-S1 space with nodules forming. This is the start of degenerative disc disease. My physical therapist said to avoid folding forward, as the compression of that area can cause the herniation to worsen. The pain was terrible, I had to quit my job. Through a series of core-strengthening exercises, physical therapy and acupuncture, I was able to return to work with little pain. I eventually returned to my regular yoga practice. Fast forward to 2021, I'm back in a mostly sitting down kind of job (*sob*) and the pain has returned. A chiropractor had to remind me about how folding forward can worsen the injury, he told me to lay off the yoga completely (fat chance >.>). I've been able to find some videos on youtube which are specific to herniated discs that avoid forward folds but, I was wondering: Is there a pose, practice, or flow, that deletes the forward fold while still getting into the hamstrings and lower back? Any advise, links, experience, relevant stories would be wonderful and greatly appreciated! <3 [link] [comments]
Posted: 16 Feb 2021 08:38 AM PST Sun Salutation, Cat-Cow-Child's, Down Dog-Chaturanga-Cobra... What are other short sequences that you see together all the time? I've been working on a little art project of different pose 'sets' and would like to do stuff that 'belong together'/are recognizable flows rather than random static poses that 'look cool.' For instance my work in progress right now are the warrior poses as a 'set.' And unrelated to my project it would just be interesting to see if people agree on what fits together. I got so used to one instructor that when I went to a different class and we DIDN'T go from Triangle to Side Angle I was caught off guard. [link] [comments]
[question] [discussion] Yoga for those with limited time Posted: 16 Feb 2021 05:58 PM PST Hey y'all! I'm into yoga (duh, ajago, you're subscribed to r/yoga...) but have been really low on free time and energy, so I've hardly been practicing at all. Which sucks since I work a rather physical and stressful job and yoga seems to be a decent fix for physical wear and tear and stress. I was wondering if, and if so, how y'all incorporate yoga into your daily routine. For example, I'm sitting in cow face pose whilst writing this (didn't know how awesome this pose was, by the way). I'll also play around with forward folds when I can find a second whilst working... Give me some recommendations!! Tell me what ya do and dig!! Be good, everyone ✨ [link] [comments]
Posted: 16 Feb 2021 05:50 PM PST So - after months of YouTube videos (and being shut in for a weekend due to crazy cold temps) I created my own yoga session. WOW! It's amazing! Sooooooooooo much better than following along to Adrien, Candace or Yoga for Men. The session flies by even though it's longer than most of the videos I've watched. I get much more into the poses. I really feel great when I'm done. The question I have, can someone kind of put a name to the style of my session? I generally hold each pose for 4 - 5 breaths. I did throw a few vinyasa flows into the middle of the session. But generally, I try to hold the pose longer than one breath. Is there a name for that style? [link] [comments]

Need help with cleaning yoga mat Posted: 16 Feb 2021 03:32 PM PST Without getting too much in the weeds on the background. I was moving stuff from our extra apartment out of town where I was keeping a spare yoga mat. It's an old apartment building and the mat really hasn't been used in the last couple years while being kept there. Saw that it now has black spots on it. Not sure what it is but can only guess it's maybe mold? I'll attach photos of I can figure out how. I've tried cleaning it with white vinegar and water, baking soda, and dish soap. I even tried the mold/mildew cleaner from the bathroom as a last resort. So far no luck getting these black spots out. Anyone have a suggestion? It's a manduka mat so don't want to get rid of it but wondering if it's too far gone. [link] [comments]
| What are your favourite YT channels for strong practices? Posted: 16 Feb 2021 11:14 AM PST I enjoy most classes by Gayatri Yoga and Breathe and Flow - does anyone have similar tastes and further suggestions? Not necessarily classes about flexibility, weight loss or fast flowing, but more the strength building kind. Lockdown has been very strict in my country and they have been a lifeline! | Posted: 16 Feb 2021 10:10 AM PST Does anyone have any tips on how to improve the eagle pose besides the pose itself? I've found it really hard to get my leg to wrap around my supporting leg but I can't figure out how to stretch that area. Any tips would be great [link] [comments] |
Would it be okay to inquire about the experience of new teachers? Posted: 16 Feb 2021 09:53 AM PST I'm kind of scared to post this because this sub gets defensive about new teachers but I just want some input. My studio has an influx of new teachers fresh out of a 200 hr YTT. I'm not sure how long they have been practicing/teaching, I just am aware that they have graduated this YTT recently. I wanted to ask the studio owner about the experience level of the new instructors- would that be okay? Or would it be weird? I personally feel more comfortable with an experienced instructor and I just want more background on the new teachers. [link] [comments]
90 minutes 2x/week OR 45 minutes 4x/week OR 30 minutes 6x/week Posted: 16 Feb 2021 01:38 PM PST Does anyone have thoughts on the ideal way to practice if I only have about 3 hours a week free to devote to yoga? I can customize my practice to fit any of the schedules above (thank you, DownDog app!), but anything over 3 hours a week starts to eat into other aspects of my life. Do experienced yogis have thoughts about the ideal length of time for a session, versus the ideal frequency? Thank you! [link] [comments]
Posted: 16 Feb 2021 01:10 PM PST Hey yogis! Happy Tuesday :) Just wanted to get advice real quick. So I'm in grad school right now in a college town. My school offers free fitness classes, including yoga. I've been consistently going but I'm not happy about the practices. They're tailored for much more beginner level yogis, which I fully appreciate as it's more welcoming. However, I still want to keep working on my inversion, smooth transitions, and balancing poses like I used to at my studio. I can't really afford paying a studio as I'm not working, and I feel rude/show-offey everytime I venture off during practice and squeeze in an inversion or bind that wasn't offered. I find myself a bit frustrated and unbalanced after the class. Does anybody have any advice, either an online free practice or suggestions to help me start leading my own practice at home? Thank you [link] [comments]
Posted: 16 Feb 2021 12:27 PM PST I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions for poses that can be done while rehabbing a knee injury? I messed up my knee slipping on the ice. It's limiting me a bit, but I would love to be able to stretch a bit, particularly my lower back, which seems to be annoyed by my inability to move normally [link] [comments]
