    Hit my crow pose today!

    Posted: 10 Feb 2021 10:02 AM PST

I had been super nervous to try this pose, but today I achieved my goal! It's not perfect, but both my feet were off the ground and I am so pleased! Feeling confident to try my next goal: the headstand.

Thanks for all the encouraging and inspiring content, yogis!

Yoga is amazing, I finally have a six pack!!!!

    Posted: 10 Feb 2021 11:36 AM PST

    Hey all,

I have been doing yoga since the first lockdown, I went crazy and was doing 4 hours... I have learnt not to do that much, I now do 1 hour of power yoga and 1 hour of hatha yoga a day (I've been doing that routine for 8 weeks now) and guys... I FINALLY HAVE A SIX PACK! Yoga is amazing, on top of that the mental health benefits have been great too!

    Yoga with babies

    Posted: 10 Feb 2021 12:39 PM PST

Anyone ever do yoga with their baby? I have infant twins who joined me on the mat today and they loved it! So many smiles and looks that said "what are you doing silly mommy?" ❤️ They mostly just laid on the mat while I did cat cows, downward dogs and planks. I'd love to find some creative yoga poses with babies where I could get them off the mat.

    Is 20 minutes enough?

    Posted: 10 Feb 2021 06:52 PM PST

I don't like to skip any yoga too many days, I feel I need the routine. But if I only have 20 minutes, is it worth my time?

Questions about arms and shoulders in cobra: 1) should the movement come from arms pushing into the earth to lift the torso or is the back doing the lifting? 2) what should shoulder blade positioning be (drawn in toward spine, wide?)

Tension at top of neck/bottom of cranium while practicing. Advice wanted

    Posted: 10 Feb 2021 04:37 PM PST

This is an issue I've been dealing with for awhile.

When I practice, I almost immediately start having tension in my SCM (I think) where my neck meets my skull. Right behind my ears.

This problem has improved a bit with concentrated core work and activation, but for some reason recently it happens right away when I get on my mat. I work a physical job and don't have this issue at all during the day, or when I go on runs either. For some reason it has to do with my yoga practice.

The tightness starts when I just sit down to start breathing, or doing poses like bridge. Sometimes even in shavasana. It's like my head won't sit correctly on the ground, and it causes a sensation of tension in the neck. But overall it's a general tightness when I'm doing yoga. The more it happens the more I think about it and the worse it gets. Even if I try to breathe it away.

For what it's worth, my shoulders are hyper mobile/double jointed. I can easily do this. I wouldn't be surprised if this has something to do with this issue.

I practice with a mirror and I don't seem to be out of alignment but I am open to the fact that I'm probably doing something wrong here. Mainly I want to get to the root of the problem because it's deterring me from practice.

    Any advice is much appreciated.

Strange experience doing yoga..felt like an anxiety attack

    Posted: 10 Feb 2021 08:11 AM PST

    Hi all,

I'm a beginner. For context i have taken pilates classes years ago, but started taking power yoga Zoom classes once a week at the beginning of January. I supplement that with two half hour sessions with the downdog app a week. I have already noticed a difference in my posture and feeling in tune with my body and even a bit more flexibility. I was just doing a session with downdog (I have it set to beginner) and I started feeling unbearably hot, my limbs were shaking, I felt out of breath and my heart was racing. I stopped and now I'm chilling drinking some water. Does anyone have insight into what just happened? Am I doing something wrong?

    Masked Yoga Instruction no-no

    Posted: 10 Feb 2021 11:34 AM PST

I go to a masked, socially distanced, flow class and the teacher asks us to do lions pose at least 3x a class and the last time she asked us to be louder. I gave it a shot but I was not going to keep licking my mask and feel a rush of heat inside my mask. Should I tell her to read the room and stop instructing us to do this pose?

Yoga + Weight Lifting Side Effects?

    Posted: 10 Feb 2021 11:14 AM PST

So, a little background: I'm a traditional weight lifter/bodybuilder. Almost exclusively heavy weights, low reps.

As I get older, I noticed my flexibility was being reduced and looked into yoga as a supplement to my more traditional weight lifting workout routine.

I signed up for a trial two weeks at a local yoga studio (I'd done yoga twice before in the past and enjoyed it) only to find out that, lo and behold, all of their classes are hot yoga classes.

Not one to quit, I gutted it out for the first class (60 mins), then went back for round two a couple of days later.

This past Monday, I experienced a pretty noticeable decline in my strength when I went back to my normal workouts. My nutrition did not deviate from my normal routine, nor did my sleep; the only thing different was the inclusion of hot yoga.

Granted, I probably should have crawled before I walked and started with yoga flow or a more gentle yoga routine before jumping straight into a 60 min session of 105 degree hot yoga, but is there any possibility that hot yoga resulted in a loss of strength (not muscular endurance, but strength/power)?

Or is it just psychosomatic/an off day?

Numb/tingling in back of legs—push through or not?

    Posted: 10 Feb 2021 04:51 AM PST

Hi all, in the last 2 months I've returned to regularly practicing yoga (4-5 hours/week, at home) after about a year and a half of not practicing. Prior to that I practiced 4-5 hr/week (in classes) for ~3 years.

6 years ago, I partially tore both of my hamstrings within 8 months of each other. Oops. Did the whole PT deal and recovered/maintained about 80% of my previous range of motion. Buuttt....

I notice that when I do any kind of forward fold movement, and some (but not all) hip openers, I get a numbness and tingling down the entire back of my legs, from achilles to hamstring. It's not painful, and it begins as soon as I make even the slightest attempt to deepen my stretch beyond my comfortable/easy range. I remember this sensation happening in my previous years of practice, but not every single time like it does now.

I'm really conscious of not pushing too far to the point it actually becomes painful, but I'd like to deepen my stretches in a safe way. Do y'all think it's ok to push through this gently and carefully, or am I forever stuck where I am now?

(If it matters: I'm 22, was 16/17 when I tore my hamstrings. My only other exercise is running about 12 km/week.)
