Feeling very emotional during Yoga and its unsettling me - advice? Posted: 07 Feb 2021 08:23 AM PST Hi, I enjoy exploring yoga and the way its making me feel/connecting with my body. But the sudden burst of emotion is freaking me out. I think that it may be a release of tension or anxiety but it certainly doesn't feel like that sort of cry if that makes sense - it honestly just feels quite horrible. A couple of times the crying has triggered a panic attack. I have been checking other posts here and see that crying during Yoga is quite a normal thing (which has already made me feel a little less silly) But was wondering if anyone has any advice - how they managed it, or if maybe I am doing something wrong. I am solo-practising so don't really have anyone around me who may have shared that experience. Thank you. [link] [comments]
Has anyone here lost weight doing yoga consistently? Posted: 07 Feb 2021 02:44 AM PST Hey guys just curious about what your experiences are. I strongly think I have been binge eating for as long as I can remember. Went to a yoga retreat and learned a bit more about myself and my body and was thinking of doing yoga to help me with weight loss and my binge eating. I try to add variety to my workouts and have lost weight gradually however this is my 1st time actually loving and gravitating towards doing yoga everyday. Its calming me down a lot as I have learned I have an energy pooling in my hands and arms intensely and that vanishes whenever I do yoga or a workout. This restlessness in my limbs have bothered me. Does anyone here have a similar experience? Anyway guys just curious, what are your experiences with doing yoga for weight loss and are there any tips or advice you can share ? I am currently comfortable doing an hour of yoga and can do some long stretches but im far from doing headstands etc. Appreciate this sub a lot and thank you! [link] [comments]

TIL: Be brave and try something new in yoga. Posted: 07 Feb 2021 11:53 AM PST Just wanted to share my experience thus far in yoga in 2021. I have made it a personal goal to do yoga as much as I possibly can this year (I would say every day, but I don't want to be disappointed in myself if I miss a day and deem the goal unmet, so I've stuck with "as much as possible"). In January, I did Yoga with Adriene's 30-Day Challenge, but for the past week, I've felt confused with how to proceed in my goal without the guided, daily challenge from January. I've tried other channels/videos for the past week, but felt pretty hesitant and not mentally-committed, thinking that I wasn't ready for anything more than Adriene or her more beginner practices. I just finished Yoga with Tim's Day 1 of his Transform Total Body Yoga Challenge and I LOVED it. I must have caught myself on an open-minded, non-overthinking kind of day and just went for it. Somehow Day 1 made me feel both relaxed and challenged at the same time. I also loved the change-up of cues and guidance. Adriene has done a great job of laying down the foundation of poses, but today showed me that if there's something I'm struggling with, hearing it from another instructor with different cues and a fresh perspective can help IMMENSELY. For example, Adriene usually transitions from a lunge into Warrior 2 and I always felt like I was putting a lot of pressure on my front knee to get there and my legs always felt really far apart. Tim transitioned from mountain pose to Warrior 2 by describing how far the legs should go and the best angle for your feet, and it felt effortless. I'm sure I'll build the strength to lift into Warrior from lunge more easily from my core, but Tim's different approach to it was a huge help in the meantime. In other words, don't be closed-minded to trying something new, especially something you may not be used to. Even if it means on a day you find yourself in a good mood and open mind and you try a very short, but new, yoga pose or video, do it. Even though most changes in 2020-2021 were negative, changes in yoga and building strength can be very positive. [link] [comments]

Posted: 07 Feb 2021 01:49 PM PST Hi all! I'm inquiring about solo yoga retreats. I've been thinking heavily about trying to attend one this year. I've been solely practicing home yoga with YouTube videos for about 8-9 months. Does anyone have some insight into what to look for when it comes to retreats? Does anyone have experience with participating in yoga retreats that they'd like to share? Any info is appreciated. Thank you!! [link] [comments]
Posted: 07 Feb 2021 05:31 PM PST Hi! I've (26F) just started being able to do a proper wheel pose, but I've only done it a few times because every time I try it, I get a sharp pain in my middle back. Is there anything I can do to prevent this? [link] [comments]
Posted: 07 Feb 2021 01:16 PM PST Hi everybody. I have read a lot of texts about kundalini energy and many of them mention that in order for kundalini to be activated, prana vayu and apana vayu must meet in the solar plexus. I wonder how that dynamic activates the kundalini? What exactly happens so the kundalini energy is activated? This explanation would mean a lot to me. [link] [comments]

Posted: 07 Feb 2021 08:12 AM PST I've never taken a class and just use the Down Dog app. I recently switched my settings to get more of a power yoga/cardio workout. With the faster pace, I find it extremely difficult to breath as instructed (I have mild asthma). I just breath at my own pace but try to inhale/exhale while performing a movement as instructed. I breath heavily in between movements. Is this ok, or should I slow down my practice to breath properly? [link] [comments]
Posted: 07 Feb 2021 07:24 AM PST Wanted to offer a simple and accessible practice. 1) Seated in any shape comfortable, notice the breath. (Notice doesn't mean change it) 2) if you'd like to wiggle the finger and toes, maybe move the head around. 3)i invite you to take a big a breath in, and a big cleansing breath out. 4) you're done. Good work. Yoga for the day is accomplished. If you'd like to explore some more accessible practice with me there's a link for the YouTube channel below. Much love💜🕉🕺 [link] [comments]

How to improve flexibility for yoga? Posted: 07 Feb 2021 01:04 PM PST Hello! I am relatively new to yoga and have decent flexibility for most poses. Although I'd like to find ways to improve my flexibility outside of my yoga class (preferably via online videos). Are there any videos or resources that have significantly helped you in your yoga journey? Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks you guys! :) [link] [comments]
To all the yoga teachers/enthusiasts Posted: 07 Feb 2021 02:07 AM PST Hey everyone, my best friend is near completing her yoga teacher training course and I want to treat her with a little celebratory present for finishing it especially remotely and during a national lockdown. I could get her a personal gift that i know she would love, but wondering if there is anything you would have loved as yogis that would have helped in either becoming a teacher or as a yogi! She has the basic yoga props already like a mat, blocks, etc, [link] [comments]
| Free videos for intermediate/advanced yogis ? Posted: 07 Feb 2021 07:31 AM PST Hi everyone, do you guys have any suggestions for free yoga videos that are not for beginners ? I've been doing yoga for a couple years and have been getting by with solo practice and Yoga with Adrienne videos since the pandemic. Her sessions are a bit too easy for me but I really like her teaching style and personality. Also, I am looking for videos that are longer in length, perhaps 60 min or longer. Any suggestions ? | Getting Started After Severe Illness? Posted: 07 Feb 2021 12:15 AM PST Hello everyone! So I've been interested in starting yoga for a while, but my body is at an absolute all-time low, strength-wise. Some background: Last March, I had Covid-19 and it knocked me on my ass. I developed POTS which spikes my heart-rate and makes me extremely dizzy if I become overheated or move too quickly from sitting to standing, my sense of taste turned everything to garbage for months (so basically I was only eating bread), and Covid somehow triggered months of constant endometriosis-like pain and bleeding. I was essentially bedridden for the entire summer. Since then, I've been dealing with the long-term symptoms including continued POTS/dizziness, shortness of breath, headaches, occasional pain, brain-fog, and exhaustion. I live in New York City, and you have to walk everywhere. I used to be able to walk for miles- I climbed a whole mountain- but now I get winded going two blocks to the grocery, and I can barely carry my bag back with one arm. I want to get stronger. I know I've got a lot of health issues right now, but I want to get stronger. I want to get back to where I was so I don't feel like such a potato sack anymore. I know I can't do any high-impact/High exertion exercise because of my heart-rate issues (plus all the gyms here are closed), so I think some at-home yoga is the perfect option. What kinds of beginners yoga could I be starting with that would help me strengthen up, but also be low-impact? Also, if anyone has any video recommendations I'd love to see those too!
