Men in yoga leggings - acceptable or unacceptable.

    Posted: 05 Apr 2021 03:31 PM PDT

I run an intermediate class, and one of the guys have recently started wearing yoga leggings. I overheard a conversation (a small group) saying they didn't think it was acceptable - too revealing. I personally don't have a problem, just wanted to gather the opinions of other.

200 hr YTT suggestions for someone who is not interested in any cultural appropriation?

    Posted: 05 Apr 2021 05:38 PM PDT

I am really interested in getting my yoga teacher training but the more I've been looking into it, the more I've been realizing a lot of these places follow practices that seem to be cultural appropriation to me. (wearing bindis, smudging, etc). I'm not interested in any arguments about what's cultural appropriation and what's not, I am simply looking for suggestions of 200 hr trainings that don't play into the whole "white people profiting of off sacred Indigenous, Asian and African practices in an ignorant way" thing. I would like to either go in BC, Canada or somewhere in Central/South America, however I am open to other places as well. I don't mean for this post to come off as judgmental at all, would just love some insight on this, as these are my personal feelings about it.

Has anyone done/doing the online Aligned Yoga Teacher Training with Briohny Smyth or the Online Uplifted Yoga Teacher Training with Brett Larkin?

    Posted: 05 Apr 2021 03:24 PM PDT

Interested in a 200 hr YTT online due to covid and will be on maternity leave so will be easier for me to do remotely. Thanks for any help! Would be great to ask a few questions if I can find anyone who has done either of these! Other online YTT recommendations also welcome! Thank you!!

Can yoga be the only workout you need?

    Posted: 05 Apr 2021 12:03 AM PDT

I'm (20m) looking to get back into exercise, and have just considered doing yoga again. I'm not really into being muscular like gym buffs, just looking for something that'll keep me healthy into old age. Do you think this can be possible with yoga? Being intense or just regular techniques?

Can't put palms flat when sitting

    Posted: 05 Apr 2021 07:52 PM PDT

When I sit on the floor, back straight, I can just about reach the floor with my fingertips but not my palms. I have to lean forward or back to do that. I do have a long torso and short limbs, but is it possible that lack of flexibility/looseness in my arms is also making it harder to reach? Should I be concerned?

Question if this is okay to do during practice

    Posted: 05 Apr 2021 07:07 PM PDT

I was wondering if it's okay that I usually look at what the best yogi is doing on their mat usually when instructor is walking around guiding people through poses. Do people really dislike being watched? Is this something I shouldn't do?

Yoga Masterclass with Donna Farhi - book recommendations

    Posted: 05 Apr 2021 11:40 AM PDT

I just finished watching the Masterclass of Donna Fathi on yoga practice. Even though I have been practicing yoga for some time now, she broke down fundamental poses in such an understandable way that I found really refreshing. I definitely recommend watching the class if you have a Masterclass subscription.

I found that Donna has been an author of several books and I would love to hear if anyone has any experience with and/or recommendations about her books.

    Thank you in advance!

Hyper-mobility but weak as a kitten

    Posted: 05 Apr 2021 10:28 AM PDT

I have mild hyper-mobility in a lot of my joints, and the fact that I can bend myself in wierd ways means that trainers assume I have flexibility but it's just the way my joints sit. I still feel super tight. I also struggle with maintaining straight legs because by default my knees bend backwards slightly, so for my legs to be straight I have to feel like I'm crouching.

Has anyone got any advice or is anyone else hyper mobile that can recommend a programme to follow where I won't do myself damage? It's hard to feel if I'm pushing myself enough or not enough. I also have a torn ACL which is contributing to some extra extension in that leg. I basically just want to feel strong again and maintain my flexibility while I still can before my joints cause me problems.

Sorry if this is the wrong place, I can remove if so.

Does anyone know what this is called? They look like shells and is sometimes used for sound meditation, though not very common. Thanks!

I think my right foot got bigger...?

    Posted: 05 Apr 2021 02:00 PM PDT

I've been doing yoga consistently for a few months. So the other day I tried my old snickers and I instantly felt that the right shoe was too tight. I brushed off thinking I was overthinking and today I actually came to the conclusion it did get bigger... has anyone experienced this ?

    Sciatica caused me to stop

    Posted: 05 Apr 2021 02:28 AM PDT

I loved stretching and being flexible being a martial artist it always seemed to keep my injuries away and keep me nice and loose. Since I got a herniated disc along with sciatica I can't do most things I used to, im still only 24 year old which sucks, any tips/stories about how to get over this and back to my usual stretching/yoga routine? Nearly 16 month ive been trying to rehab now, refuse to have the surgery 😤
