Ashtanga yoga: Question about the forward bend in seated sequence

Question about the forward bend in seated sequence

    Hello, r/ashtanga!

I am working through the first series of Ashtanga yoga and I would really appreciate your insight on this question.

I've being doing aerial silks for about 8+ years. Around that same time I started, I tore both hamstrings - specifically, at the ischial tuberosity while doing splits in the air. It's been a long way to recovery but I can still do pretty much any movement after warming up and stretching, and I do know my limits.

However, this injury has really affected my lower back's ability to forward bend due to the torn tendons, and I have a really hard time keeping a curved, tucked spine pretty much as I pass the seated 90 degree angle.

My questions is - for the following figures in the seated sequence:

    • Paschimottasana (A, B, C)
    • Arda Badda Padma Paschimottanasana
    • Triang Much Eka Pada Paschimottasana
    • Janu Sirasana (A,B, C)
    • Marichyasana (A, B)

Is it ok if I bend the straight leg forward, to allow for the rounding of my spine? Or should I keep it straight, focusing on bringing my head forward and down?

I've asked some practitioners with mixed answers, so I would really like to listen to your thoughts! I can also share pics.

    Thank you!
