Posted: 18 Jul 2021 01:00 PM PDT I used to do yoga everyday before pregnancy exhaustion kicked in and I'm now 5 weeks post-partum. I'm really keen to get back into yoga because it did so much to help with my mental health and I'm feeling pretty fragile (mentally) after my second emergency ceserean. Anyone got any tips for what I should avoid or what would be good for me or resources for post partum/surgery yoga. I have my post birth check next week so I'm hoping I get the all clear to start some light exercise. I miss yoga so much but I'm really scared of hurting myself. [link] [comments]
Need help.. Wrist injury taking forever to heal Posted: 18 Jul 2021 06:54 PM PDT I sprained my wrist during an intense session about a month ago.. Initially I left it alone to let it heal but got back into regular practice and exercising not long after, nothing wild though. It's been at least 4-5 weeks and I'm still feeling slight pain when I put pressure on it. What's going on here?.. is there anything I can do to help it to heal faster? Am I just being impatient :( [link] [comments]
Posted: 18 Jul 2021 11:09 AM PDT Just did my first "Vinyasa" yoga class. I posted a few days ago with about the upper back and neck tension so decided to give a real class a try since everyone here was giving me pose after pose to loosen up so I figured a flow class was my best bet. I have to say I got way more than what I paid for. So glad I went. After the class my mat was literally a pool of sweat. And I'm a fairly fit young man. I lift weights and play basketball 3-4 days a week but yet this yoga class worked me more. Lol. Highly recommend it if you can find a local teacher that does this style. [link] [comments]

What should I do if I am not flexible enough for Uttanasana Hands under Feet? Posted: 18 Jul 2021 08:47 AM PDT Hello everyone! There is a TL;DR at the end for those of you who don't have the time to read my wall-of-text 😇 First things first: I have read the rules and the FAQs. I couldn't find what I was looking for there (to my surprise), and neither could I find specific instructions online (to my double surprise). Of course, I might simply be wrong - and I would happily delete the post and send many thanks to whomever would be so kind as to redirect me to a proper source. Now let's get to my issue. I've only started yoga mere days ago, but I have terrible flexibility and I can't quite reach below my feet with my hands. I guess this is a common issue for beginners. Now, I have received two very opposite suggestions: some people tell me to try it out by keeping my legs straight and pushing down as far as I can with my upper body; someone else tells me instead to keep my hands below my feet with my knees bent and then try to straighten my knees as much as I can. However, what's funny (and a bit frustrating) is that both sides have mirroring argument about the fact that the other side's approach is extremely harmful and should be avoided at all costs. So, my dear yogis: whom should I listen to? Thank you in advance for your help 😊 TL;DR: I am not flexible enough to do the hands under feet pose. Should I keep my legs straight and bend over with my upper body, or rather bend my knees and try to strengthen my legs after having reached out for my feet? Have a beautiful day everyone 🌻 [link] [comments]
Posted: 18 Jul 2021 07:01 AM PDT My yoga mat suffers from a case of a 1cm wide cut from a weight rod. It is brand new and I want to fix it somehow. What can be done. I can't afford a doctor. [link] [comments]
Props to every pregnant person doing yoga Posted: 18 Jul 2021 08:20 AM PDT I got pregnant unexpectedly and for the first couple months was horribly nauseous. Prior to that, I was practicing daily, feelin good, flexible & strong. I'm currently doing a 6 day yoga training for my 500h program and my body just is NOT the same (6 months along). I would make it a point to do simple asana like cat/cow, pigeon & the like bc my hips are so tight. I'm huge, bloated, weak & winded. I am a roly-poly. I am struggling. My favorite pose is child's & legs up the wall. I just want to lay here. I know how good it is for baby & I but DANG. [link] [comments]
Why is lulu bad and what is better?? Posted: 18 Jul 2021 01:03 PM PDT I am a white female college student and have been practicing yoga for a few years now. I constantly hear criticism about the 'type' of people who wear lululemon and similar brands. I am currently this kind of person. 😅 My question is twofold. 1. why is this bad? Is it appropriation or over emphasis on aesthetics? 2. What is the alternative? Are there clothing styles that are better suited for yoga? Are there better brands? [link] [comments]
| Yoga mat durability - how do I prevent damage from getting into splits? Posted: 18 Jul 2021 07:53 AM PDT I've had to replace my yoga mat on pretty much an annual basis since I started practicing, but the only reason for this is that when I slide into the splits my front heel scuffs and eventually starts tearing at the surface of the mat. I've tried different brands and different materials, and so far I've had the same problem with all of them. All of them have also remained in really good shape otherwise, so I hate having to replace them so frequently because of a single pose. I've tried scooting my back foot backwards instead of moving my front foot forward, and I've tried getting into the splits from the side instead of sliding down, but even then I can't keep my front heel completely still, so this only slightly slows down the wear and tear. Has anyone else had the same problem and either found a workaround or a mat that's durable enough to not be damaged by this? Or is my only option to just do the splits off the mat?
