Doing yoga in a beautiful park I am increasingly noticing as we age our skin loses elasticity and this is what my legs look like after a child's pose! Imprints in the skin last a lot longer as we age

Can we talk about studio prices?

    Posted: 19 Jul 2021 12:37 PM PDT

Hi r/yoga, after a long break from live classes, I am so thrilled to be back in-studio and feel the energy of breathing together with my fellow yogis!!

However I've noticed a pretty sharp increase in studio prices. I know the past year has been so tough for studios and teachers, so this is to be expected. But classes have become prohibitively expensive for me to attend regularly now. As a point of reference ( I live in the bay area) drop-ins now start at $25/class, with $30+ becoming the norm (previously $20). The monthly unlimited memberships have always been out of my budget and I usually buy 10 or 20 class packs. These used to come out at around $15/class, but they too have increased to $20+/class!

Are you also experiencing this? Is it going to affect how often you take studio classes?

I genuinely did not realize how anxious I was till I went to class yesterday and felt 1000x better after.

Between covid times and an injury that stops me from doing anything too strenuous, my on the mat practice has been sparse lately. My favorite teacher started teaching a restorative class and I went yesterday. I swear that shit is magic.

    Single favorite video practice?

    Posted: 19 Jul 2021 03:57 PM PDT

If you were to recommend one video you return to again and again, which would it be? (Not asking for channel or virtual teacher recs, just your favorite yoga video practices.)

Is yoga your primary or sole exercise? If so how much do you do?

    Posted: 19 Jul 2021 09:15 AM PDT

    Hey all,

Just curious, power yoga is my only form of exercise and I try to do at least 90 minutes a day.

I don't like other forms of cardio or workouts but my friend mentioned that yoga isn't enough and doesn't count towards your weekly cardio (I totally disagree because power yoga makes my heart PUMP lol).

Anyway, just wondering what you think and do? Thank you :).

[COMP] photo/video dump of recent practice - press handstand check in

    Posted: 19 Jul 2021 02:34 PM PDT

I recently picked up Yoga as a complete beginner. I'm doing a little pack which has 52 cards in it of different poses which are for beginners. Are these really beginner poses? They seem very difficult for a newbie.

    lil rant

    Posted: 19 Jul 2021 05:09 PM PDT

today i had an instructor who was a bit inexperienced teach the whole class with ujjayi breath as being with the mouth open. she flipped it around when cuing, she had us start with the mouth closed then moved to mouth open. i approached her at the end of the class and in the nicest way possible informed her that it was with the mouth closed and she told me that's not the way she learned it in YTT >.< it was a bit frustrating but i just let it go. i hope she doesn't keep teaching class like that because i feel like it robs students of so many benefits!

Help with elbow pain in down dog

    Posted: 19 Jul 2021 12:30 PM PDT

Hey, I've been doing yoga for 3-4 months now. In the last couple of weeks I've been noticing elbow pain when I do downward facing dog. I'm not sure if I should keep them straight or let them rotate in, and now I don't know what I was doing before the elbow pain started. Any advice?

how to avoid arm and hip pain in locust pose (bikram)?

    Posted: 19 Jul 2021 12:21 PM PDT

have been practicing bikram for a while and I always have pain with this pose. it feels like my elbows are hyper extending and then my hip bones dig into my arms/wrists or slide around or dig into the floor, and it hurts my neck/upper shoulders as well. This is the only posture that i have pain or difficulty with. i wonder if my proportions and body mechanics just make this not available to me? suggestions welcome.

My experience on an intensive yoga and meditation course ✨

    Posted: 19 Jul 2021 12:56 AM PDT

    Hello everyone. First post

What have I been doing lately ? I went on an intensive meditation and yoga retreat for 4 weeks. And by intensive I mean we worked deeply on ourselves. We didn't speak for 3 weeks and were also fasting. It was an experience that cannot be put into words. Many attachments, many processes fell away. Now there were no external distractions. Full concentration on what is inside me. Diving into the depths within me.

My perception gradually changed. All senses became stronger.

The perception of the deep present moment, the presence in the here and now, increased every day.

The acceptance of the moment as it is has also changed drastically. A beautiful change that has occurred is that I can access the joy and love in every moment. Joy accompanies me through the day. Whether I am well, in pain or going through trials. I always feel deep love and joy in the depths.

But the most beautiful experience for me is this depth in which I now live. This depth of the present moment. And I want everyone to be able to reach this depth. To feel and experience this depth within themselves.

    Smelly mat cleaning suggestions

    Posted: 19 Jul 2021 08:07 AM PDT

Hi! I spray my mat down after every hot yoga session, but most days it stays in my car while at work and with temps in the 90s.. I notice it's been smelling. Recommendations on how to give it a thorough cleaning? Can I submerge in the tub and clean with gentle soap? The spray& wipe just doesn't seem to be cutting it.

    Beginner yoga auesyion

    Posted: 19 Jul 2021 06:12 AM PDT

I've just begun doing yoga a few days ago and although I feel my posture has gotten way better, my back does hurt sometimes. Is that because it is adjusting to a different, straighter structure? So far I've just been sitting on my balcony and doing really simple stretches.

Does anyone know of a complete yoga program that can transform you from a beginner aka stickman to a flexible guru advanced yogi in a progressive fashion? You start with easy moves and once you can do them, you move to the next move. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
