Posted: 14 Jul 2021 01:11 PM PDT Just writing to remind myself and others that many beautifully choreographed flows that you see here, on youtube, and on tiktok were performed by gymnasts and dancers. I've watched too many videos getting frustrated comparing it to myself only to dig a little deeper to see the poster say they were a gymnast or dancer their entire adolescence. What they're doing is impressive and possibly aspirational, but remember like everything else on the internet: you only see the good side. You didn't see these posters practice for years a profession that ultimately is not yoga. Focus on you! Your breath, your small victories, and your daily practice - no matter how simple <3 [link] [comments] |

Anyone here who learnt yoga all by themselves, how you did it? Posted: 14 Jul 2021 12:58 PM PDT I would like to know the experiences of people who learnt or are learning yoga all by themselves. Those who are doing it for a long time, can you tell what difference can it make as compared to a class in terms of progress and time taken to learn. How long have you come? And any difficulties ypu had to face? Any lessons that you learn (do's and don'ts)? [link] [comments] |

Posted: 14 Jul 2021 03:17 PM PDT During my yoga sessions of 15min each I'm always in pain due to stretches being diffucult for me and muscles being quite weak. Is this normal as a beginner? Does your focus shift more towards tbe breath as you get stronger and more stretchy? [link] [comments] |
What's the origin of the 3 channels diagram? Posted: 14 Jul 2021 09:10 AM PDT For a couple of decades I've seen versions of this diagram (with the 3 channels) pop-up everywhere. I'm trying to find out the origin of this diagram. Where does it come from? Is it from some ancient illustration or a modern interpretation of readings of ancient texts? Where was something like this (with the 3 channels) first published? Appreciate your insight. Edit: I got the diagram from here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Subtle_body [link] [comments] |

What is your morning routine? (apart from yoga!) Posted: 14 Jul 2021 08:39 AM PDT So I like to do a full body stretch in the mornings before I shower and go to class/work, but I would love to know if you guys have a detailed morning routine that you do everyday, whether it includes yoga or not!! Posted: 14 Jul 2021 12:00 PM PDT Hello everyone, hope you're having a wonderful Wednesday! I'm a beginner with yoga, I started doing it during the pandemic and have kept up with it pretty regularly, however a few months ago I injured my shoulder (rotator cuff injury) and while I've been working with a chiro, recovery is slow. I'm a massage therapist so I can't completely rest it 100%. I've been still trying to do some yoga but just avoid poses that put weight on my shoulder, however it feels so disjointed and janky because I'm use to doing downward dog and plank transitions. So im wondering if anyone has any tips or ideas or videos or anything that could help, especially with the flow of things without those transitions. [link] [comments] |

Breathing problems in sleep (and awake) Posted: 14 Jul 2021 07:48 AM PDT Hello all, I'm hoping to get some advice on this and whether a regular practice can help, or whether anyone else has experienced this before. Lately I've been having this issue - in life, outside of yoga - around not breathing. I think it's partially out of anxiety - a couple months ago, I woke up holding my breath and freaked out - I think this was around the time that things were getting very bad in India, where my family is from, and I was really worried (I'm in the US). Ever since then, I've been worried I have some sort of issue like sleep apnea, but I do this when I'm awake too, and I don't have any of the risk factors for sleep apnea - I'm thin, I'm a woman, I'm young(ish), I'm healthy, and I exercise very regularly. I do not do yoga regularly. Basically I end up exhaling all the air in my lungs and then just staying there. I've noticed that I hold my breath throughout the day like that, particularly when I'm concentrating on tasks, and when I'm falling asleep, I do the same thing. Last night I was hyperconscious that I did it a couple of times in my sleep. It's hard to say whether it's normal to have such a long pause between an exhale and an inhale or if there's just something wrong. My thought was that I would start with trying to build a regular yoga practice to see if that resolves things before I go see a doctor, but I was hoping to get this community's thoughts and to see if anyone has ever experienced something similar. Thanks for your help! [link] [comments] |
Reeeeally Good Virtual Restorative? Posted: 13 Jul 2021 10:26 PM PDT Pre-pandemic, I used to go to a restorative class that made me feel amazing, like I'd just had a spa day. I haven't been able to find anything like it at home. It was 90 minutes, most poses held for 5 minutes plus, and involved a ton of props. (I'm not talking Yin, I mean genuinely just restorative). Does anyone know of an online source for something like this? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 13 Jul 2021 07:18 PM PDT Sorry if this seems like a silly post, I just thought this might be the best place to share. I've always been an anxious person, ever since I was a small child. I was always stressed about something. I carry that anxiety with me nearly everyday. I had an interest for yoga when I was small, it seemed relaxing and I admired how calm the people doing it were. In my culture, we don't really have any meditation practices (that are common anyways) so we would have to turn to something else. I know my aunt did a few classes in Tai Chi and never looked back. I did a few yoga classes in school, and a I felt a calm I've never felt before. I felt grounded, more in tune with things. However, I don't want to be disrespectful to the culture in which yoga is from. Is there any way I can continue doing yoga while being respectful? Thank you [link] [comments] |
Posted: 12 Jul 2021 11:09 PM PDT Hi all, My beloved dog Mango passed away this past June 14th. He was my son, truly truly my son. My heart is shattered still, and I'm having a hard time getting back into a routine and back into yoga practice (asana and meditation.) I feel no motivation for anything even though I know that getting into a routine and into my practice would probably help. I would love some tips, ideas, and/or encouragement please. Thanks in advance. [link] [comments] |

Posted: 13 Jul 2021 10:49 PM PDT Time zone is GMT-7 : Hey there . I'm studying for some tests and would love to involve yoga in my routine. I'll maybe start with three times a week as the other days I go to the gym . I'm not a morning person but I'm committed to make this a habit . We can do discord or zoom . I'm a beginner so we can talk about the routines if you want . Someone made a post about this and unfortunately her time zone was different . We can do webcams then maybe mute while we screen share routines . What do you guys think ? For me it's so easy to fall off track especially when I'm alone . I'm so impatient so hopefully doing it with other people can give that little push . [link] [comments] |
