Somedays, I feel like I have a whole new body. Posted: 16 Jul 2021 02:50 PM PDT My daily yoga journey started a little over 1 year ago. I'm in my mid 30's and thought I was in pretty good shape. Worked out 4-5 days a week and practiced yoga maybe once a week for additional stretching. I've suffered with being stiff, tight and in pain for as long as I could remember and thought "Everyone must feel this way, right? This is normal, RIGHT?!?" I learned just how tight and not so strong I really am, after trying to lift a heavy table and pulled my back. Since I am active (despise sitting still) and ride a sports bike, I was determined to stay in shape and heal up quickly and get back on my motorcycle before the season was over. So, I figured yoga it is, I'll keep in shape while stretching my body. This is when my journey with yoga began. At the time, I did not realize how much my body, mind and spirt would change. There were moments of frustration, pure bliss, and everything in between. I had NO idea that I could find a clam state of mind in the mist of my anxiety by just bringing awareness to my breath. My mind is always full throttle and sends me on an anxiety hamster wheel. Prior to yoga, riding my motorcycle was the ONLY moment I found inner peace. The type of peace that brings tears to my eyes. Now brining my breath, while riding has brought me to a whole new level of a riding experience. Riding has now become my ultimate form of meditation. Each day I find a stronger awareness, in all parts of myself. Each day I feel a little looser and in less pain. My tight hips move with a greater ease, my shoulder blade feels like as if it is making its journey back to its intended home. I'm amazed at the actual control I have over my limbs! My mind has been slowing down, worrying less about "what could happen", enjoying the moment and thinking before I speak. Dare I say, I am finding self-love. Thanks for reading my ramble. Hello.. Been practicing for a year.. Posted: 16 Jul 2021 11:20 AM PDT The thought of practicing yoga has come and gone for some time. During lockdown I finally asked my sister if she could lead and teach me. One thing lead to another and eventually, I started practicing on my own. All I can say is, I'm glad I started and even happier I'm still continuing my practice. I just finished, and my mind feels renewed. Is this what really happens? Sometimes I think that I'm just telling myself that because "that's how I'm suppose to feel." I was conscious of what I ate even before I started. But now avoid the feeling of being full, does this make sense? Yes, I enjoy eating junk, but i avoid excess. Since I practice and mostly learned alone, I'm not sure if these feelings are a result of my practice... One thing is for sure, I will continue to be a student.. Any advice? [link] [comments] |
Does Sphinx pose do anything for you? Posted: 16 Jul 2021 05:29 PM PDT Can't really seem to feel anything when relaxed but when I engage in really good posture I just feel tense?? Not sure what I'm supposed to feel with this pose [link] [comments] |
Has anyone ever heard of this? Posted: 16 Jul 2021 05:18 PM PDT I've jumped around studios the past 6 years of practicing and I heard a teacher say something I was confused about last week. She said in yoga, you only breathe through the nose only unless it's the lions breath. But in previous vinyassa classes, or in heated yoga rooms, I don't see how that is possible to stay breathing through your nose the whole time. I understand you want a smooth inhale exhale, should never feel out of breath or like you're straining, but it seemed off to suggest you never breathe through your mouth at all when practicing. But maybe traditionally, that's how yoga was practiced? Anyone have any insight to this? [link] [comments] |
Yoga guides you to a deeper experience of yourself. Posted: 16 Jul 2021 05:12 PM PDT about to teach yoga class at the beach 2019 Namaskar Reddit Yoga community! Just saying hello. Only just started using reddit a couple weeks ago and now I have just found this board. With lockdown from COVID in my country I have been missing doing my yoga outdoors. Crazy that they banned people from being on the beach in a Caribbean country! How was your yoga practice today? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 16 Jul 2021 08:55 AM PDT Took my first live class in a while and took advantage of a free hot vinyasa class in my area, and wow! Was so amazing to practice among other people all at different levels, of different looks, and different abilities. It truly helped me connect and feel the welcoming aspect of yoga that I've missed while doing it at home. Would love to hear more ideas to get deeper in my practice or others experiences 😊 [link] [comments] |
Really disappointed by the attitude of people on this forum Posted: 16 Jul 2021 05:45 AM PDT Hello. I recently posted a serious question asking for help about an issue about yoga and my body that is really upsetting me, and I got downvoted and someone posted a sarcastic comment. I am really disappointed and confused by the attitude of people on this forum as I thought a Yoga forum would be compassionate people or people who have a bit more empathy. I felt so uncomfortable that i deleted my question and just hope I can somehow get it answered by a personal trainer or something. please think about your actions before sarcastic and downvoting because you never know what people are going through. To ask an honest question and being vulnerable enough to expose your embarrassing problem on a public forum and then have it ridiculed is not nice. [link] [comments] |

Posted: 16 Jul 2021 12:39 PM PDT So since I was a kid I've always locked my knees when standing. I've been doing yoga and Piyo for a while now. I've searched around about this topic and found various responses so I thought I would come here. Should I try to lock my knees or try not to? Poses like downward dog are hard for me to do without locking them, especially if I'm really pushing my weight back on my heels. [link] [comments] |
Longer or faster - which is better? Posted: 16 Jul 2021 04:52 AM PDT I'm not exactly sure how to put this, but I'm going to try. I'm currently in my 4th month of a daily yoga practice and I'm in love with it. I practice through the DownDog App and I'm currently doing a core focused Ashtanga practice every other day and then on days when I'm not doing Ashtanga, I mostly do Vinyasa flows (I have it set up for Intermediate 1, Quick flow with boosts that change from practice to practice, usually Uppe Body Strength, Core or Glute Strength). I'm currently going for 1 hour practices at a norml pace, but I was thinking of either making my sessions longer (I'm aware the app only goes until 90 minutes, which is sort of my goal) or making the pace faster. Are there individuals benefits of doing either of these? What could be the possible effects of either going faster for 1 hour or keeping the pace the same and going for longer? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 16 Jul 2021 08:08 AM PDT Recommendations to someone with lower back/sacral problems? I feel like no matter how much I work my legs, what I eat always goes to my upper body, so I stay off balance. Sorry if that doesn't make sense but it's just my experience. [link] [comments] |
Having trouble sitting upright Posted: 15 Jul 2021 10:34 PM PDT Whenever I sit cross legged on the floor and I try to keep my back straight, I find my self tilting backwards. So, to counteract that, my thighs/knees start to drift upwards. If I relax my legs to feel heavy on the floor, my upper body instantly starts to fall back and my legs will tense up to keep me from falling over. If I were to support my upper body with my arms, then my legs are planted on the floor just fine. If my legs are spread apart more, it feels a bit more planted, but I still tilt back. I tried to adjust my sitting to sit on the sit bones but that only helps a little. So, anytime I'm sitting crossed legged on the floor and I'm like caught in this weird position. It makes it difficult to meditate, keep my back straight, and just makes it a very annoying experience overall. Is this a core thing? My mid to lower back starts to feel strained if I'm sitting down for prolonged period and I have to collapse to ease the tension for a bit. Or is it something else? Why am I having so much trouble sitting? [link] [comments] |
