To those of you who lack the mental or physical energy to get on the mat:

TLDNR: Anything you do that eases the chaos in your mind is yoga, whether it be on or off that mat.

I couldn't get on the mat today. I just couldn't summon the will. I decided instead to draw a bath and chill out there. As I sat there feeling guilty that I could be on the mat I remembered the second yoga sutra: yogash chitta vritti nirodhah. Yoga is the cessation of the chaos of the mind. The bath was my yoga.

So I invite you to perform your own yoga off the mat if you need. And if you must put a name to what you do, I invite you to perform bathasana, cuddle-a-petasana, cup-o-teasana, or any other comfortasana you need. I invite you to release your guilt for performing yoga off the mat. I will meet you on the mat when you are ready.

Is there any good consensus on Manduka Pro’s?

    Posted: 02 Jun 2020 04:22 PM PDT

I am about to invest in a good mat for the first time and I'm doing my due diligence research. I'm quite confused about Manduka Pros.

Every thread and online review about them seem to say, "They're great! But after three years of using it it's still slippery and I usually use my lululemon one instead. Great mat!" Or something to that effect lol.

Are these mats actually good? The slipping issue sounds like it would be really frustrating, and everyone has a different story about how useful the salt/dish soap treatment was for solving that. But a lot of people seem to turn around and still recommend it despite it being dangerously slippery? Is this not actually that big of an issue?

I realize I'll probably just have to take the plunge myself and see, but dropping almost over $100 for something that might just never be good is like, sheesh.

Can anyone give me their experience with the Manduka Pro? Any suggestions on mats that might not be as dense or quality but are more 'reliable' I guess?

Sorry to make another mat thread but after my search I didn't find anything particularly satisfying.

I can't get my knees to stay on my armpits as it only hurts. If I place them on the sides, I can manage to stay like this for 30 seconds.

Yoga mats for a senior dog

    Posted: 02 Jun 2020 05:21 PM PDT

Hi. I'm looking for inexpensive yoga mats for an elderly dog. I need several of them, so I want to find inexpensive ones. I know we usually look for good mats, so this may not be easy to answer.

A studio near me closed and gave away all their old mats, but I just missed it by minutes. Any ideas are welcome. Thank you.

Advice for Starting a Good Routine?

    Posted: 02 Jun 2020 03:33 AM PDT

I've been practicing yoga for roughly a year or so now, just kind of doing what felt right and finding the occasional youtube video or yoga program on a website. I've been wanting to start a bit more of a dedicated practice and actively try to improve my strength, flexibility, balance, etc.

I used to go to the gym and most programs recommend something along the lines of: chest tris, back bis, shoulders abs, legs, repeat.

I'm wondering what the equivalent for yoga would be? Many poses incorporate a good deal of muscle groups and work on many different facets of health/strength/etc at the same time.

I've been thinking of starting on a cycle of something along the lines of: strength based poses, flexibility based poses, balance based, repeat.

    Any advice??

    Day-1 yoga

    Posted: 02 Jun 2020 09:05 AM PDT

Good morning. June is here and I have set the intention to make June a good month. Today is my day 1 of coming back to doing yoga. I used to do regularly and was a consistent with it, as with time I lost the rhythm. I want to set the intention and do more :)

I did Yoga with Adrian from the YouTube channel. If others have more recommendations, please me my way. Namaste

    Anterior Pelvic Tilt and Sukhasana?

    Posted: 02 Jun 2020 09:45 AM PDT

I have anterior pelvic tilt (APT) and have been working to correct it with stretches and exercises.

I have also been trying to sit in sukhasana pose for sometime. Starting out feels okay (even though my knees are above my hips which I know is bad) but I end up with hip pain toward the middle and feet falling asleep by the end. Sitting on a brick obviously helps because my hips are in line with my knees, but a brick seems like a temporary fix that doesn't actually address the issue.

Does anyone have any stretches or pose recommendations that I can do to make sukhasana easier and get my knees lower? It may simply be a symptom of my APT, which needs to be fixed first. Thanks!

How many if you in here can comfortably get on a pretty wide childs pose and have the last vertabrae in your spine touch the heels of your feet. I struggle with this. I need to shorten my arm length and contract my abs to get my lowest vertebrae to touch the heels.

    Slight hamstring injury (I think)

    Posted: 02 Jun 2020 08:41 AM PDT

Hi, I think I injured my hamstring while doing my splits routine. Though there's a little to no pain just slight unusual discomfort. I rested for a day and a half and applied ice but when I returned practising today I found that it didn't go away. How long should I rest and will it affect my flexibility ? and what can I do to speed the healing process ?

Need help finding something that works for me.

    Posted: 02 Jun 2020 06:41 AM PDT

I have a little bit of a bad posture and although I am standing upright now, my spine is not how it should be. I thought Yoga might be good for me to build healthy muscle and improve on my flexibility.

I love meditating but only to clear my mind (in terms of focusing on my breath and trying not to think).

I have problems with highly spiritual things since I consider myself a prictical guy.

If someone could help me to find the right thing for me (something like a 30 day challenge), I would be super thankful. Even if you tell me that Yoga isn't for me but I would love to try it.

Thanks in Advance and greetings from Germany.

TL; DR: I want to build muscle and am not that spiritual what kind of Yoga is for me.
