    [COMP] Working on my Mermaid!

    Posted: 26 Mar 2020 02:37 PM PDT

    Here's a hooray! I did crow today!

    Posted: 26 Mar 2020 02:25 PM PDT

I'm a restaurant worker, so I'm still going to work. But my regular yoga classes are all cancelled. My stress levels have been through the roof these past two weeks and last week I made a promise to myself that I would practice every day, even if it was just breathing. I was already pretty strong, but just couldn't get the feel for balancing on my hands. After playing with it a little every day for a week I finally managed to hold crow for 5 seconds!

I never thought I would be able to do anything like that!

Just thought I'd share a small victory among all the craziness of the world.

When doing yoga on bare floor (hardwood, marble etc) without your yoga mat, are there any long term negative effects on your joints such as your knees?

    Posted: 26 Mar 2020 06:24 PM PDT

I understand yoga mats are mainly used for its cushioning and traction benefits but I do wonder - other than the temporary pain you feel on your joints pressing against the floor, does practicing on bare floor in the long run take a toll on the health of our joints?

Down Dog is currently 60% off

    Posted: 26 Mar 2020 03:01 PM PDT

Posting in case anyone was waiting for a sale! I've just purchased a yearly subscription for $19.99 after receiving the offer in the app. It appeared at the end of my session.

Although the whole app is free until the end of the month, so maybe the promotion will still be running by then?

Tips for switching from downdog to low lunge

    Posted: 26 Mar 2020 06:24 AM PDT

I've been doing beginner/intermediate poses for a while now, and I can get in most of them with variable stability.

When I have to flow from downdog to low lunge though (bringing the foot in between the hands), I have a hard time placing it at the height of the hands and it can only land much farther (closer to my feet than my hands).

What should I work on to improve that?

What style is best for weight loss?

    Posted: 26 Mar 2020 03:22 PM PDT

I've always been into calm, restorative yoga but as I'm not a teen anymore and yoga being my only form of exercise I'm finding it harder to keep the calories off, and I'm missing my flat tummy! I'm looking into doing at home exercises alongside a fat burning yoga. Any suggestions appreciated!

My lower back hurts after attempting wheel pose

    Posted: 26 Mar 2020 02:35 PM PDT

Hi! I was doing some yoga at home, and I did the wheel pose (felt comfortable trying it at home after doing it in class a while back) and my lower back was very painful as soon as I finished my practice.

After some googling, I realized that my mistake was that my knees were pushing out/legs widening. I rested for day and tried doing cardio today and the pain returned when I did some squats, radiating down my thighs.

What should I do? Stop exercising completely? Certain stretching?

Thank you in advance, and stay safe!

Stop trying to get somewhere. You're most likely already there. Just let it flow.

    Posted: 26 Mar 2020 06:59 AM PDT

I just had this realization. Chances are that you are already exactly where you want to be. Just stop forcing it and let it flow. Then everything will fall into place.

(Relative) beginner with extremely limited use of right hand

    Posted: 26 Mar 2020 12:48 PM PDT

    Hi everyone!

I am just beginning my journey with yoga and gradually introducing it into my daily life. I previously took some classes casually but never committed to any serious degree.

I'm looking to return to the practice and would love some input on what my best starting options would be.

    Some background:
I suffer from an acute and chronic bone disease in my (dominant) right hand. It will never go away and there is no "cure" - only deterioration until I eventually need what is essentially a wrist fusion. So, because of this, I have extremely limited use of my right hand. For reference - I can hardly bend it up and down and side to side, and it feels more or less like concrete has set around where my arm and wrist meet. I probably have about 30% mobility currently. I cannot bear weight on it (pushups, planks etc. are absolutely not an option) and have reduced grip strength, however, I can lift light weights (5lbs).

Given my limitations I'm hoping some of you or someone in a similar position can guide me in the right direction as to what style might best suit me or if there are any specific teachers/guides/classes that would benefit me the most. I use to love vinyasa but it's very taxing on my wrist given the repetitive weight bearing. So far I've just been putting my hand in a fist and placing it on its side (so my thumb is facing upward).

TL;DR - I have a relatively severe hand/wrist issue that prevents me from practicing weight-bearing poses, and am looking for advice on best practice.

Thanks everyone - I look forward to your advice!!

Has anyone had success recovering from a torn labrum in the shoulder? With or without surgery

    Posted: 26 Mar 2020 03:08 PM PDT

I have been dealing with shoulder pain for 2 months, originally being treated for muscle impingement. After hearing a pop in my shoulder last weekend, I found out it may actually be a torn labrum. I teach yoga full time and am starting to feel like I can't trust myself or my body right now. Everything on the internet is quite discouraging in regards to the labrum as well. Feeling lost and afraid to move at all. Any success stories from conservative methods or surgery? If so, what made you choose either route? Thanks you guys!

    Wrists

    Posted: 26 Mar 2020 02:59 PM PDT

I broke my right wrist in early January. I also sprained my left wrist late Feburary. I wore a splint on my right wrist and I was supposed to get a cast, but never did and it did not heal properly. I cant bend that wrist at a 90 degree angle like the left, and it doesn't have full rotation.

I really miss doing yoga, but I'm scared to even try bc of my wrist pain. Sometimes it hurts to just push myself up out of bed using my wrists.

What are some things I can try to start practicing again?? Any suggestions will be helpful!!!

    Inhale BEFORE forward fold

    Posted: 26 Mar 2020 02:39 PM PDT

Hi all! This question is mainly for my fellow teachers here. When teaching class I always give the traditional exhale let your naval reach for your spine Queue. But in my personal practice I've been taking a deep breath into my ribs/ thoracic spine and when I fold and gently pull on my Achilles from behind I get the BEST reeeeeal lengthening in my spine. Am I doing something wrong/ hurting myself long term? All feedback welcome!

    Best morning routine?

    Posted: 26 Mar 2020 07:25 AM PDT

Lately I've been doing 3x sun Bs every morning with some ab work just to start the day. Anyone else have a solid morning yoga 5-10 minutes or less to shake off the dust? What do you do?
