Anyone want to do a 30 days of yoga accountability group?

    Posted: 22 Mar 2020 11:42 AM PDT

Like many of you, I'm bored AF at home right now even though I'm still working full-time and am looking to get back into yoga for mental/physical health. I had a bad experience with a "fake" yoga teacher training program early this year and felt burned by the industry for a while, but I'm getting over it and REALLY miss my regular yoga practice. Hoping to do my YTT some time in the next couple of years!

I'm finding it hard to get motivated to practice regularly without scheduled studio classes and would love to practice with a group for accountability and reflection! If this already exists somewhere here, fill me in :) I'm not beginner or advanced...somewhere in the middle. I'm looking at Yoga with Adriene's 30 Days of Yoga to get started but am open to anything, really. I can sustain my own practice without guidance but love guided classes and a challenge. 30-60 minutes daily would be great. Bonus if anyone wants to combine with deeper study as well.

Wishing love and health to you all waiting out COVID-19. Let's use this time to build community, improve our health, strength, and vitality.

Teaching virtual classes but finding it unnerving – advice appreciated

    Posted: 22 Mar 2020 07:06 AM PDT

Hi everyone, in light of this virus outbreak, I've been taking as many of my classes online as I can (I only teach corporate classes). After trialling it this week, students seem keen to continue, but I have to say I found the experience a bit unsettling. With everyone's mics muted and videos off (I think people get shy), it feels like I'm talking to an empty room and there isn't any feedback to know how I'm doing. For example, if my cues are landing or not.

I know a lot of these people quite well as they've been attending my classes for 1-2 years, although there are newer students as well. We usually have a chat at the beginning and I greet everyone but once the class has started, I find it difficult to maintain that feeling of community.

Also, I tend not to demo very much in my in-person classes, but feel I have to a lot more when I'm being videoed. I find it weird that I'm basically narrating my practice, rather than being able to look around the room and see how my students are getting on. I like to read their energy levels and adjust my sequencing as I go, offer modifications and verbal assists, and I can't do that on webcam.

I would be interested to hear from both students and teachers who have tried live streaming classes – how can I make mine a better experience for everyone? What are some pitfalls I should avoid?

Hello all! I was hoping this community could help me find exercises for a person with two torn rotator cuffs. Please share with me any suggestions! Thank you and stay healthy!

Recommendations for an at home power yoga video program

    Posted: 22 Mar 2020 04:57 PM PDT

Due to the quarantine, I'm now looking for an at home power yoga video to follow along with. I'm used to doing very challenging power yoga at my studio, and would like to keep it up at home while all the studios are closed. I've learned that I don't like doing yoga on my own without instruction. I get caught up in my head trying to remember what sequence of poses I did on the previous side, or what pose to do next, or if I've held the the pose as long as the other side, and it ruins my experience -- I'd much rather follow along.

What's considered among the most challenging at home power yoga programs / videos?

    Poses to improve wrist flexibility/strength

    Posted: 22 Mar 2020 12:41 PM PDT

I was wondering if anyone knew of things to add to my practice to help with wrist flexibility/strength. I feel my wrists hold me back from doing arm balances. For example when I'm in plank, my left wrist feels strong and I can hold it at a 90 degree angle but my right wrist hurts and I can't get it to that 90 degree angle. I've never had any wrist injuries so I'm not sure what the issue is.

Trouble keeping up with 'follow along' yoga routines

    Posted: 22 Mar 2020 08:03 AM PDT

Hi, I'm new to yoga and stretching, and I found a video I'd like to practice everyday but it's hard to follow when I have to keep picking my head up during the routine to look back to my laptop. I guess I should just watch it one pose at a time, do the pose without looking, then watch the next pose?

    Any advice?

    Favorite postures when stressed?

    Posted: 22 Mar 2020 11:51 AM PDT

Hi r/yoga, as my studio moves to streaming, I am switching classes from a typical power flow style to a stress reducing class and I was curious what other people find enjoyable.

My go to's for stress tend to be deep forward folds and those that focus on relaxing the neck as that's where I hold tension. You?

New to yoga- problem with hamstrings and lower back?

    Posted: 22 Mar 2020 08:51 AM PDT

Hello, I'm 21F and I recently started practicing yoga regularly a couple months ago to help with anxiety and sleep problems. I feel great after a session, but I've been having a huge problem with hamstring flexibility. All my life this has been an issue- I used to dance and figure skate but no matter how much I stretch it seems impossible for my hamstrings to loosen up at all! I have a problem hinging at the hips and my back always seems to naturally arch. I'm starting to wonder if it's not my hamstrings but maybe a different issue with my lower back or glutes or something. Does anyone have any advice for how I can overcome this? I'm worried if I keep trying to stretch my hamstrings I could hurt myself if it turns out they're not the problem. Thank you!!

Who makes a cute funky headband that will stay put?

    Posted: 22 Mar 2020 05:55 AM PDT

Looking to have my hair held back during yoga. Was thinking a fairly wide one-more than a couple inches.... It's also gotta stay put. Lulu's are boring looking and not wide. Any thoughts? Stay healthy!

Happy Baby Progression? Poor Hip Flexion

    Posted: 22 Mar 2020 09:07 AM PDT

How can I progress towards doing happy baby pose? Currently my head and chest are way off the ground if I grab my feet...like bad. When I use a strap I still have a lot of difficulty drawing my hips up/back and it makes the pose uncomfortable. Hips and sometimes hamstrings are tight. I am working towards learning how to do Olympic Style Squats (in order to perfect the oly lifts) and believe that progression in happy baby would correlate with squatting. Any advice you could give me, other pose recommendations etc... would be appreciated, thanks.
