| Posted: 06 Apr 2020 06:21 AM PDT The mystical and magic like side of this meditation sub-reddit is a turn-off. It makes it seem more like a cult/religion. Why do people feel the need to make grandiose claims? Is it not enough to just quiet the mind and find peace within yourself? I am just starting out but it makes it hard to gauge the effectiveness of my attempts when I hear that someone who is also an amateur had a vision or cured coronavirus as I saw a post claim. | How do you manage your emotions when you're tired? Posted: 06 Apr 2020 05:38 PM PDT I find that I'm more on edge and swayed emotionally when I'm tired. I'm much more easily manipulated and also reactive to others. Any tips or mantras to check one's self during these moments? [link] [comments] |
| I have terrible ADHD and I successfully meditated for the first time this morning!!! Posted: 06 Apr 2020 10:16 AM PDT I've been wanting to try out meditation and overall mindfulness for a little while now. I have anxiety and ADHD and have been suggested meditation by my therapist and others to try and help me better handle my erratic thoughts. So I've been lurking on this sub, reading other things on the internet, etc. I tried it a few meditation methods that did not seem to work for me or perhaps I wasn't ready for it. I don't think I was in the right head space really for the first tries. I wanted it too much. Finally this morning, first thing I did, I got up, got some water. Made my bed. Sat criss cross on the end of it, put my hands on my lap, set a timer for 10 min and closed my eyes. I thought about my breath for a few moments and then I just tried to keep my eyes still, if I had a thought that got me distracted, I counted it. I got up to 8 random thoughts and slowly my body felt like it wasn't really there. I got lost in the color of the back of my eyelids and stayed there, not thinking about anything else. Then when my alarm went off it made me jump haha. Maybe I should put it quieter and a more peaceful noise. But I am really happy! Thank you guys for all the good meditation discussion. | Posted: 06 Apr 2020 11:38 PM PDT What you call as meditation does not help, what you call as God does not help, what you call as religion does not help. Meditation helps, God helps, religion helps, but God is not what you think God to be, meditation is not what you call as meditation and religion is not what you have ideated it as. Whenever you say meditation, you are so badly conditioned now, you start thinking of a man, sitting in some pose with eyes closed and trying to be silent. Meditation is about opening your eyes, not closing your eyes. If you cannot meditate with your eyes open, how will you live in this world? With eyes closed? Whenever a life situation will confront you, what will you do? Will you close your eyes? Meditate with eyes open, meditate when you are driving, meditate when you are eating, meditate when you are talking, that is real meditation. The right action, the right center of operation, that is meditation. Lord Buddha is saying watch your breath. He says watch everything that is in motion. One must have the intelligence to decipher the code. There are idioms in language, there are metaphors, things are said figuratively, you must know their real meaning. Lord Buddha is saying watch the breath. He is saying watch your relationship with the world. What is the breath? Your relationship with the world. See, how things are going in and coming out. See how you are absorbing the conditioning and see how you are shaping the world. That is what is meant by watching the breath. Vipashyana, pashya means to watch. Watching is the real thing not breath. Watch everything. Breath is a useful thing because it is always with you therefore, easy to watch. But the breath is not at the center, watching is at the center. Vipashyana, watch. But watching is out, breath is in. If you learn to watch, would you only watch the breath. Breath is a reminder, breath then becomes a token of the guru. Breath is like then an alarm clock. Somebody by your side to always nudge you, are you watching, are you watching, are you watching? You might do something or not do something, but what is certain is that you are always breathing. So, breath is a nice reminder. He hopes that you are intelligent enough to decode his words. | Posted: 06 Apr 2020 11:23 PM PDT I want to be more spiritual but I'm very scared of having supernatural experiences. I have strange beliefs already and am very anxious. I'm also reactionary, and had a period of time in the past where I didn't know what was real anymore after becoming overly stressed and basically starving myself to get rid of stomach issues. I feel like I don't necessarily have the confidence or faith in anything to know I'll be protected. I think I'm a good person, I don't think I've done anything I necessarily regret but still live with immense guilt for feeling like I'm just not doing enough to help ppl. What can I do? I don't have a real belief system either so I pray to the Christian god because I believe in christ consciousness and edgar cayce but I feel rude even trying. Wtf is wrong with me? I don't want to see something weird and go crazy lol [link] [comments] |
Does smoking weed prevent you from being able to meditate? Posted: 06 Apr 2020 11:11 PM PDT Kind of a weird question, but does smoking weed prevent you from successful meditation? I'm asking because I've tried meditating a few times in the past but never really achieved the state. I imagine it is still possible but to really practice it properly when I'm stoned a lot [link] [comments]
Posted: 06 Apr 2020 11:41 AM PDT Those qualities include attitudes of curiosity towards the object of meditation, enjoyment, playfulness. I find that when I try and foster positive attitudes that everything kind of falls into place and the discipline is kind of the cherry on the top. [link] [comments]
Posted: 06 Apr 2020 11:51 PM PDT Everytime I meditate I fall asleep. I usually turn on headspace (app) (not always) when I'm stressed or restless to meditate. It does calm my mind and.. then I pass out. Hahah thinking about it when I'm upset I tend to get tired. I'm not so concerned that I do fall asleep. I suppose it's a great tool but it's not really what I thought my results were going to be from this. So what's a more beneficial way to meditate? [link] [comments]
How to stop being aware of my mouth? Posted: 06 Apr 2020 11:36 PM PDT So I've been meditating twice a day for about 4 years now, but all of a sudden since this weekend I can't stop being aware of my tongue and saliva. It's making me quite uncomfortable, the taste, the swallowing, and its a real distracting in my practice. Where did this come from? Will it ever stop? How can i stop it? Could it just be a cold/flu/covid? Does anyone have experience with this? [link] [comments]
Is 1 hour a day of total meditation time a good goal? Posted: 06 Apr 2020 12:37 PM PDT I usually meditate in 10 to 20 minute blocks. The goal is to reach 1 hour a day. Is 1 hour enough to see major benefits from mediation? Thanks [link] [comments]

Struggling to let the breath be natural Posted: 06 Apr 2020 06:11 PM PDT I've been meditating for a little while now (first started a couple years ago, just got into a daily practice a few months ago) and one issue I've noticed recently is that I can't help but alter my breath once I start to focus on it. Once I bring my attention to my breath and notice the way it feels, my breathing switches from automatic to manual and I have to think about every breath in and out. When I start thinking about it, I start breathing much deeper than I normally would and I struggle to let it flow naturally. Some guided meditations will say not to alter the breath, simply allow the natural rhythm and just notice and be aware of it. Are there any tips for noticing the breath without switching into manual breathing mode and consequently altering the natural rhythm? Or is this just a normal part of meditation? [link] [comments]
Should I listen to the voices in my head? Posted: 06 Apr 2020 03:50 PM PDT During my meditation sessions I've noticed that if i focus on the flow of my thoughts I can voices saying completely random stuff. First of all I hope this is normal, and secondly, does it benefit me in any way to focus on these voices? When I meditate i try to be mindful of my surroundings and everything I feel. I think I'm being mindful of my own thoughts in a sense when I reach this point, but I'm not an expert, I've only been meditating for about 5 months. I'd like to know if there's similar experiences and your thoughts on the subject! Thanks. [link] [comments]
Posted: 06 Apr 2020 09:27 PM PDT I used to meditate just about everyday. I found it extremely beneficial for my overall well-being and it made a huge impact on my life. However, for the past few months I find myself avoiding meditation more and more... Despite all the benefits I was experiencing, somewhere along the way I gradually found myself becoming more and more anxious when trying to let my mind go. Ultimately, this has made slipping into meditation an uncomfortable process that I've begun to dread and avoid. I would love to get back to enjoying meditation again without the anxiety that follows... I'm just wondering if anyone else has experienced this? Maybe someone out there has a little advice? Thanks in advance! [link] [comments]
What has your daily meditation practice done for you? Posted: 06 Apr 2020 09:26 PM PDT How has it changed or contributed to your life? I've been debating starting a daily habit but I'm not sure either way. As someone who had a previous practice, and who's experienced ego death and moments of awakening, I'm not sure if there are lessons left to learn from a daily practice. Would love to hear your testimonials. [link] [comments]
Complete newbie to meditation, could someone please give me some guidance Posted: 06 Apr 2020 09:21 PM PDT Why should you meditate? What are the benefits? How is it performed? How long is the optimal time to meditate for? How long does it take to obtain results? [link] [comments]
Posted: 06 Apr 2020 05:24 PM PDT Life is completely and utterly absurd. Not only to mention the absurdity of the forms and shapes of energy around us. It's the definitiveness of existence which is ultimately absurd. It is, and we truly know not why or how. 'It', this thing has taken shape, and we can define it partly. We live in a state of familiarity, this sensation of oddness has no utility in day to day life. That's the sun, that's the moon, this is the planet, that's your body, that's what it is, you get used to it. It's odd, strange, and weird that any definable thing exists at all. I think it can be scary to dwell deep into that sensation, which can come up meditation. [link] [comments]
Posted: 06 Apr 2020 01:14 PM PDT I think analytical thinking is an important aspect of society. I think analytical thinkers often search for the "truth" although I'm unsure what that word really means. Is something true if it follows the typical behavior of our unique planet/solar system? For example the laws of physics or biology (carbon based). Keep in mind we have little idea what is going on at the quantum scale or universal scale of our reality. Or is something true if it is repeatable and has a clear and predictable path. For example, an arrow fired by a professional archer will have a repeatable and predictable path. With that said, I believe analytical thinkers that are limiting themselves to the pure truth are missing out on a very important aspect of life. There are so many fun things to think about that might be totally wrong! Its alright if your wrong sometimes, as long as you are not forcing your ideologies on people and you try your best to be open minded to alternate perspectives and new ideas. I think there are infinite ideas that are beneficial for us humans to talk about. I think it's extremely important for us to brainstorm and talk about interesting, far out , or silly ideas without judgment. It is obviously important to seek what is true. But I believe we also need to take some shots in the dark because in the end we have no idea where we are or what is actually true. [link] [comments]
Posted: 06 Apr 2020 02:05 PM PDT I'm a beginner. Anyways I was meditating earlier and about 10 minutes in i felt intense tingling in my chest. A good sensation I must say. Like my heart chakra had been finally opened. It started to move to my throat and then onto my face and eventually onto my forehead. The forehead sensation was the least intense as I was losing focus. Is this normal? [link] [comments]
4-5 months meditation experience w/hemi sync. Posted: 06 Apr 2020 06:57 PM PDT whilst meditating last night i felt a very large energy response (the largest I've had) what I mean by "energy response" is that my whole body felt like it was bulging, warping, and vibrating. When I opened my eyes i could see patterns, shapes, and the darkness above my bed was swirling, and I could see particles of light shimmering around it. The swirl seemed to centralize then disperse. I began to see eyes and human like figures in it. I started to ask questions like "who are you?" "have you always been there?" "do you want to take me somewhere?" etc. when i asked questions the energy sensation in my body would surge to levels I've never personally experienced before. Don't want to draw this out too much bus has anyone else had similar experiences like this? if so are you able to shed some light on the matter? Pretty confused right now definitely one of the more out there experiences I've had. [link] [comments]

Star Wars laser sound effects when I'm meditating? Posted: 06 Apr 2020 06:28 PM PDT Second post today on this sub I just meditated for a bit and at the end of the session occurred something really weird that happens now and then when I'm meditating There's a weird sound that pops out of nowhere inside my head that reminds me the laser sound effects from Star Wars, a bit of a springy squishy sound is what I would describe it. I feel like the exact sound might be unique to me but does anyone experience reoccurring sounds when meditating? :-) [link] [comments]
