[COMP] Benefits to being quarantined at home: you can do handstands whenever you want

    Posted: 28 Apr 2020 05:36 AM PDT

[COMP] 2020 I made a goal to start doing headstands (and progress from there)... pretty proud of my progress. In January, I couldn’t even get up with ease. My hamstrings are still tight, so straight legs coming down is hard. But it’s progress! Would love constructive criticism.

Very new to this sub but I’m so excited about my wheel progress I wanted to share ❤️ Not sure where to go from here, I can’t hold myself up in a forearm wheel, but my straight legged one is pretty good. Would love any feedback and suggestions on other variations to try ❤️

    1 year later

    Posted: 28 Apr 2020 06:20 PM PDT

A year ago today, on a whim, I decided to take my first ever yoga class. I had been wanting to take one for a long time but couldn't get over my anxiety of going to an actual studio. After my first class I was hooked. I've taken over 150 classes over the past year.

Yoga changed my life in so many ways. Physically, mentally, spiritually and emotionally. I am nothing close to the person I was a year ago. I went through several huge life changes which had every chance to break me. But I always had yoga. That hour of practice where I can forget everything. The teachers always seemed to set an intention for the class that was perfectly applicable to my life. I can't count the number of times I cried in those classes, both happy and sad tears.

I now work for this studio at the front desk and I am surrounded by the most supportive and uplifting group of people I have ever met. Because of the current situation going on we've since had to close to the public but we are still live streaming several classes a day. Today on my 1 year yoga anniversary I got to live stream a practice with myself demonstrating poses while the teacher taught. I was so happy thinking about who I was a year ago and who I am today. I'm so thankful I found yoga.

    Too depressed to yoga

    Posted: 28 Apr 2020 06:37 AM PDT

Anyone else feel this way? I can't dredge up enough energy to yoga right now. I signed up for my yoga studio's online video classes and I just kind of... sit on my mat sometimes and do nothing, wasting the money I spent. Then I get worried and anxious about it, and then that feeds into how shitty I feel already, and it's just a terrible cycle.

I miss yoga. My body hurts right now. But I just can't manage it and I'm beating myself up about it and I just feel... bad. I don't know what to do or how to motivate myself. I just feel worse and worse as each day goes by that I don't get some practice in. I hate this so much.

Any Prenatal yoga teacher or with prenatal yoga experience around?

    Posted: 28 Apr 2020 02:27 PM PDT

Hi! I just found out Im pregnant. Still in the middle of my first trimester and would like to hear about adaptations or poses that should or shouldn't be done. I am a yoga teacher myself with years of pretty advanced daily practice but never studied prenatal and don't know much about it. Ive been reading a lot and asking around but there seem to be different opinions: from "the first trimester you shouldn't worry and continue your regular practice" to: first trimester do almost nothing and see how you feel the next months or "don't do any headstands" or "headstands can help the baby" If there is someone with knowledge and recommendations around would really appreciate it. Also if there is any book or articles that you could share. This is my first pregnancy and im excited but I want to do things right. thank you.

    Yoga mats

    Posted: 28 Apr 2020 07:48 PM PDT

So I'm wanting to buy a good yoga mat and I'm in between three brands (Liforme, Manduka, Jade) so I'm hoping you guys can help me..

Also, i am not sure if its just because my current mat is really cheap but i do not like how my mat tends to get slippery (could be because of feet sweat) and how i can see the dent of my hands/feet from the poses. Does this happen with the mats mentioned above?

    Hot Yoga Makes Me Yawn

    Posted: 28 Apr 2020 07:44 PM PDT

Years ago I did hot Bikram yoga and LOVED it. I did it for a couple years. I took a few years off for grad school and have tried to get back into it for some time but in hot yoga classes I can't stop yawning. It's like non-stop yawning throughout the class.

I stopped trying to do hot yoga because it was 1. embarrassing and felt disrespectful to the teacher and 2. so distracting I couldn't focus on my practice or relax.

Has anyone had this issue? Does anyone know what's going on with that? I can do non-heated yoga just fine.

    yoga time [OC]

Hey guys, could you suggest some beginner friendly asanas?

    Posted: 28 Apr 2020 07:55 AM PDT

22 year old coming back to practice after 8 years. I used to do yoga since primary school , it was part of the curriculum (I'm Indian) even participated and placed at competitions, we have yoga competitions at school level where I'm from. But i had to stop after 9th grade due to surgery. Took up something else in high school. However now that I'm starting out again i just feel really stiff and out of practice. It was very long ago when i did it regularly and was good at it. Although never cared about any of the benefits even if our teachers stressed so much about them. Its so crazy because i could hold positions for a minute but can now hold asanas for only 20 seconds. I'm now doing the surya namaskara, variations of trikonasana, and sime other basics. Would love to know your suggestions to practice more.

Tips for safely practising crow pose?

    Posted: 28 Apr 2020 01:42 PM PDT

I am sometimes able to hold a crow pose but sometimes if I lose my balance a tiny bit I fall really fast. I feel like I could hurt myself so I'm unsure how to progress. Any tips on how to practise safely?

How often should I practice core/abs exercise?

    Posted: 28 Apr 2020 10:54 AM PDT

I am a beginner and I've been practicing for a month now. I am eager to keep practicing but it's easy to get lost amongst the different workouts. How often should I include abs/core exercises to be comfortable in my future practice?
