Is just 15 mins/day enough to get started? Posted: 21 Apr 2020 05:32 AM PDT Hi All, Total newbie here! My wife suggested that I (42 y/o male with a desk job) try yoga. I have mid-back pain in my sleep, and also my neck and right arm are tight from using a mouse all day. This is all relieved by visiting a chiropractor, but I would like to remove my reliance on him. I have just bought a fitbit, and this morning I tried one of the "beginner" routines from the fitbit app that was 15 minutes long. It was not easy! I felt a bit disheartened, but I suspect that most people feel this way when they get started. Is 15 minutes a day, every day, a good start please? Will I see much benefit with a short routine like this? Also, when should I start stepping it up and going for a longer programme please? Is it just a case of "when the current programme gets easy" please? Thanks in advance for any responses! [link] [comments]

Help with Chaturanga Dandasana to Upward Facing Dog Posted: 21 Apr 2020 04:29 PM PDT When I watch it done, there is like a smooth dip going into Up Dog but I can't get going from on my toes to feet down on the floor in that smooth almost looping motion [link] [comments]
Its been a year since I had a 'spiritual' experience and about 2 years since I practice yoga Posted: 21 Apr 2020 12:01 PM PDT Exactly today on 21st April last year, I had a very powerful spiritual experience during meditation with my guru. I cannot really explain what happened but I felt ecstatic for about 15 to 20 minutes. Tears of ecstasy would flow continuously without any reason. I had similar experiences before, but with the help of psychedelics drugs (I'm not taking any drugs anymore). That time I was 100% sober, I did not even drink coffee. It's also been about 2 years since I started practicing yoga & meditation and one year and a half since I have been initiated into yogic practices by my guru. The impact yoga had on me is just incredible. It did not only transformed me but also my friends and family. It made me so disciplined that for the last year and a half I was practicing yoga every day for 1 to 3 hours (except maybe 7- to 10 days). I have transformed on all levels, physically, mentally and emotionally. It's really nice to see that all the effort I made had a positive impact not only on me but on my friends and family. They also have become more happy and peaceful and even some of them got interested in yoga too. I hope this post will inspire you to keep practicing yoga as it has the power to transform the world 🙏 [link] [comments]

Remembering yoga sequence during video filming - best practices Posted: 21 Apr 2020 01:04 PM PDT Hi there! I have been creating yoga video classes, and sometimes I accidentally skip some asanas or I forget a part of the sequence. I believe it's because I focus too much on setting up my alignment (esp. in more advanced poses) and sometimes, there are just waaay too many poses I want to include. Do you have the same experience? What strategies do you use to remember the sequence? Do you have any "creative" solution? Thanks in advance for any responses! [link] [comments]
Any advice for yogis with sensitive wrists? Posted: 21 Apr 2020 06:05 PM PDT I've been practicing for many years now but am only just getting into inversions and arm balances - this is mostly because I've struggled with carpal tunnel and any pressure on my hands aggravates it. Doing too many chataranga push ups, for example, hurts my wrists first, not my arms. Any advice so I can continue my practice and strengthen my wrists? [link] [comments]
| Thinking of a yoga wheel, few questions. Posted: 21 Apr 2020 03:32 PM PDT Hey. I am a male, 6'0, 165lbs. I don't have terrible posture, but I am very tight in the upper back/shoulders. Typical weight-lifting-but-not-body-builder-inflexibility. I can't do any sort of a back bend, and I think the best thing for me would be a yoga wheel so my body can just "open up" more. I do notice myself forcefully opening up my chest when I'm working, because of how tight I normally feel. Would a yoga wheel be a good investment for me? I was thinking the 10" chirp wheel, but I'm open to alternatives. For what it's worth, I do do lots of pullups, and my back is more muscular than my front, which is likely why I'm stiff. I wouldn't want a regular foam roller, because I actually like how thin the wheel is, and how the bigger diameter of it. It should really allow me to sink into it. I don't have any sort of open shoulders. I used to stretch a lot, because I was doing handstand practice a while back. However they're pretty "closed." Any advice is appreciated. Thanks! | Hip pain during first few minutes of savasana? Posted: 21 Apr 2020 03:22 PM PDT After every workout when I lay down for savasana my hips hurt until I sit in it for a few minutes, then it goes away and I feel great. Just curious why this is happening and if it's normal. [link] [comments] |

Pain while kneeling with tucked in toes Posted: 21 Apr 2020 02:40 PM PDT Hi! I started doing yoga about two weeks ago (using the Down Dog app) and I'm struggling with something that I never thought would hurt. When I'm kneeling down, with my toes tucked in, it really hurts my toes. Not like "it hurts but I can handle it" kind of way, a "this really hurts I can't do this" way. How do you deal with this? Do you have any tips? Thank you! [link] [comments]
