Why my back of my knees hurts when I try to do this exercise? It hurts so bad and I can only reach the knees with my hands(image)

Get Flexible by Science - (32 Studies) I'm annoyed by conflicting advice and I found this video by accident!

Will the stretches I do depend on my goals?

    Posted: 01 Sep 2020 08:07 PM PDT

I don't care for doing splits and all that bendy stuff. I just want my flexibility improve my weightlifting and other things.

Like getting low enough on squats, overhead squats, wrist mobility for front squats, posture correction, anterior pelvic tilt, etc.

Help getting started and overcoming poor hip flexibility and asymmetry

    Posted: 01 Sep 2020 08:11 PM PDT

Hi all! New to the sub, been trying to get flexible for a while now but have not much progress. I'm a 32 year old male, 6'3, 170 lbs (I assume this is relevant info :).

I have very poor hip/core flexibility and not great hamstring flexibility either. Looking for tips on how to improve Janu Sirsasana but open to suggestions for other exercises that could help improve mobility and flexibility as well.

The main challenge I face is with Janu Sirsasana is, I cannot fold at all over my straight left leg. On this side, my bent leg does not really get close to the floor like it does on the other side, and as I try to make it come low to the floor, my left sit bone raises. Is this a common problem? I'm wondering does it make sense to use a strap to fold like this if my left sit bone is not even grounded?

This asymmetry also causes me trouble in one side of my figure four pose as well since I cannot get my right knee to flare out much.

Will appreciate any suggestions or advice!

    Stretching with terrible straddle

    Posted: 01 Sep 2020 07:29 PM PDT

I'd like to be able to do middle splits but most stretches that get recommended require a lot more flexibility than I currently have. For instance, I don't really feel a stretch in a straddle just because I can't get past 90 degrees. Are there any more basic stretches that could help with middle splits?

I have a very good butterfly stretch flexibility but not great frog pose/straddle. Not sure if that helps with a diagnosis.

Been stretch for a while now but it's taking along time. Anyone have a effective method to increasing the forward bend/pike stretch?

    Tips for improving balance?

    Posted: 01 Sep 2020 02:08 PM PDT

I want to try tricks like the needle, but whenever I lift my back leg, I always start loosing my balance and falling out of the position. I'm super weak and have no core muscle so maybe that's why but I'd love to hear some tips! Thanks!
