Posted: 01 Sep 2020 02:30 PM PDT I just meditated for the first time, it was a strange experience. I have pretty severe anxiety, to the point i've lost and incredible amount of weight since college. I would love some tips, and some feedback on how my first one went! I was able to finally push past just sitting there and i got relaxed, and i felt like i wasn't in my body, it was just me in space with my mind, i discovered one issue i have is not committing, giving up when things make me anxious or don't go my way, and i'm excited to learn more ways to better myself [link] [comments] |
The sounds of the ocean put me into a peaceful state. Posted: 02 Sep 2020 01:43 AM PDT The sounds of the ocean put my mind into a meditative state very quickly. There is nothing better than sitting on the rocky sure and breathing in the fresh ocean air. Many people don't take enough time to immerse themselves in the nature that surrounds us. Here is a link to one of my favorite videos to replicate being oceanside when I am not able to actually be there. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=66n2va_a_Fk [link] [comments] |

The Pattern on the Trestleboard (Builders of the Adytum) Posted: 01 Sep 2020 07:10 PM PDT These affirmations from bota.org are done best before and after sleep. This Is Truth About The Self -0- All the Power that ever was or will be is here now. -1- I am a center of expression for the Primal Will-to-Good which eternally creates and sustains the Universe. -2- Through me its unfailing Wisdom takes form in thought and word. -3- Filled with Understanding of its perfect law, I am guided, moment by moment, along the path of liberation. -4- From the exhaustless riches of its Limitless Substance, I draw all things needful, both spiritual and material. -5- I recognize the manifestation of the Undeviating Justice in all the circumstances of my life. -6- In all things, great and small, I see the Beauty of the Divine Expression. -7- Living from that Will, supported by its unfailing Wisdom and Understanding, mine is the Victorious Life. -8- I look forward with confidence to the perfect realization of the Eternal Splendor of the Limitless Light. -9- In thought and word and deed, I rest my life, from day to day, upon the sure Foundation of Eternal Being. -10- The Kingdom of Spirit is embodied in my flesh. Talking/guiding yourself through meditation? Posted: 02 Sep 2020 01:04 AM PDT Hello all. I was wondering if talking or guiding yourself through a session is technically even meditation. I feel like a cheat if I'm not just doing the passive awareness or something with quieting the mind. I have mental health disorders but nothing that makes me completely lose touch with reality. I have a traumatic past and am just prone to dpdr. I find meditation is either the absolute foundation for my good days, or throws me into a depersonalized spin out on my bad ones. Not fun. Would kind of self guiding/self loving myself through a solid month still be meditating? (For the record I have tried loving kindness but found it TOO engaging to where I was constantly waiting for the next phrase, and never really settling). I am generally not really a fan of guided but would like to coach myself at my own pace. [link] [comments] |
Balancing concentration and relaxation Posted: 02 Sep 2020 12:33 AM PDT Something that helps me practice sitting and observing is finding a balance between concentration and calm relaxation. For me, being sleepy or controlling my breath (while struggling to let go) are symptoms of overshooting in one or the other direction. Do you have some tips and tricks how you help yourself calm or how you increase your concentration? What I do when I feel sleepy and drift off often: more attention on the sitting posture and finger placement, centering in the purpose of the exercise, .. What I do when I am not able to let go of control: short breathing exercise or shifting focus away from the breath (e.g. doing a body scan) and then return. [link] [comments] |
Forget the "visions" & "states" Posted: 01 Sep 2020 06:10 PM PDT I wish i could have everyone who wants to take up a meditation practice know this: ITS NOT ABOUT HAVING VISIONS. They are all illusory phenomena. The visions are actually an OBSTRUCTION to true seeing. But everyone in this group are hung up and blocked by their greed for experiencing states and having visions. A couple of weeks reading these posts has revealed how much confusion there is about the practice. [link] [comments] |

Completely non-sexual erections during meditation. Does anyone know much about this? Posted: 01 Sep 2020 06:00 AM PDT I'm only beginning to feel the benefits of daily meditation after a few months, and it has been great. I am curious if anyone has any experience or readings on the matter of erections during meditation. It often arises when i find myself falling deeper into meditation, and i begin to become conscious of energy in the crown of my head alongside it. It is strange because it does not tend to be a distraction. It just happens, and then goes away, unaccompanied by any sexual thoughts. Has any one read anything about this? I am just particularly curious because it always coincides with a sensation that is either in the middle of my forehead or rising to the top of my dome. [link] [comments] |
I just wanted to share how much meditating has influenced me doing it for only a week. Posted: 01 Sep 2020 08:24 AM PDT At first I hope my english is understandable; English is not my first language. Im 13 and in the last years i have really gotten into spiritual stuff.( I was on spiritual festivals and started to see that there is more)Altough meditation may or may not be a spiritual thing i view it as a spiritual thing. I never wanted to meditate because I thought it was boring and I thought i wouldnt give me that much positive influence in my life. I was always trying other stuff that looked cooler for me. Astral Projection Clairvoyance etc. but without suceeding. I needed to understand what it really was and that everything is connected. Now i started meditating and I realise how good it is. It is still very hard for me to focus on the meditation but im getting better.I feel much happier and i get more energy. Before i would lay in my bed depressed and watch stupid YT videos. But now I spend my time reading books (Right now im reading the Mind illuminated from calusa in the german version) and doing more productive things.I get happy at small things and every day when i wake up im grateful that i breath that i live and that i can live in a household with "no problems". I even smile randomly at People in my City.Writing this is also really good because i can reflect on how my life is getting better. I just wanted to share this with people maybe hesitating to start. Its really worth the efforrt! [link] [comments] |
Meditative lucid dream of boats and temples Posted: 01 Sep 2020 09:21 PM PDT I had a dream so many years ago, it was the calmest and most serene imagining of my life. I was on an ancient big wooden boat on a little river in the sahara, under a veiled cool sun, floating at walking pace, looking a the bright clear beachy ground that ran to the distant horizon. It felt like an hour passed, feeling the rocking of the boat, i trotted to the aft and stern, in mental silence with just the woody splashes and echo of a hull on a river, on a deep, empty, landcape of egyptian desert. At one point there was a temple 1 mile away. I flew there very fast in a blink and studied the doorway and archatraves and steps and ornaments, and then i appeared bank on the boat and enjoyed it another 30 minutes of endless serenity until i awoke... no people, no things, no sound except a boat and water and a warm veiled sun of winter somewhere in the East Sahara. I wish so much that calm was easily accessible. Perhaps the boat is my body, my mind, and the river is my journey in time, and the empty landscape in every direction represents meditation. I want to dream that again every day, and its just a memory, i only visited that feeling of serenity semi consciously many years ago. [link] [comments] |
Meditation to overcome addiction Posted: 01 Sep 2020 03:21 PM PDT I'm a complete newbie to mediation but I feel like it may be a good tool to help me gain control over my thoughts. A particular nasty thought cycle that I am trapped in, and have been trapped in for the past two years or so: my addiction to ketamine. It is a compulsion to use the drug daily. A psychological based addiction. Try as I might to keep the cravings out of my mind, I always fall into the same thought pattern and before I know it, I have several small bags of white powder in my possession. How do I begin? Where do I start? Is this a sane idea to use meditation in this way? Any help or advice would be appreciated. Thank you [link] [comments] |

Drawbacks to meditating too much in the beginning? Posted: 01 Sep 2020 02:36 PM PDT Hello all! I am getting back into meditation, and I'm wondering how to build a practice. I would like to jump into meditating full-force (20+ minutes/day). Are there drawbacks to this? [link] [comments] |

Why is my body swaying back and forth or from left to right during meditation? Posted: 01 Sep 2020 05:47 AM PDT I am meditating for more than a year now and I regularly experience something interesting which I think is pretty common during meditation. So when Im sitting on the floor for 10-20 minutes watching my thoughts, my body starts moving rhythmically back and forth or sideways, left to right. It only happens for 1 minute, then slowly stops. I am not moving the body. The body moves by itself. I am just wondering - why? Does anyone have any explanations? [link] [comments] |

Posted: 01 Sep 2020 01:35 PM PDT I suffer from severe ADHD, which went undiagnosed for most of my life until I was in my mid 20s. I was often told to try meditation to help with my issue with focus, anxiety, impulse control and overthinking. 2017 I embarked in my journey into learning more about mindfulness and meditation and have not looked back since. As with everything for people with ADHD this has not been a linear journey, or an easy habit to incorporate. 3 years later I can still go weeks without meditating. I'm curios to know how many people here suffer from ADHD. And if you do, how do you manage? What was your journey into mindfulness? and how has it helped improve your life? Tips and feedback is also welcomed from anyone who does not have ADHD or know much about it. Thanks 🙏🏾 [link] [comments] |
