[Discussion] The Zen Monk Who Practices Fourth Series (Advanced B) Ashtanga

    Posted: 05 May 2020 09:00 PM PDT

    Hi All

Here's our latest episode, an interview with Mark Togni who is a Zen monk and long-term Ashtanga practitioner.

    https://escaping-samsara.com/mark-togni-the-intersection-zen-monk-practicing-4th-series-of-ashtanga-vinyasa-yoga/

The episode is packed with information about Ashtanga and meditation. We discussed the effects of Vipassana, Zen and Yogic chakra and Kundalini raising meditation techniques. Interdependent co-arising in Zen, self-inquiry approach of Advaita Vedanta and Patanjali's Yoga Sutra philosophy. Breathing waves, bandhas and energetic patterns of Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga's sequences.

What makes this conversation so valuable is that his statements are based not on the book knowledge, but are coming from his first hand experience with different spiritual practices.

My arachnid room mate. Crossed my mat today, chill af, totally unimpressed with my practice. Cause he already got 8 limbs, that's why.

    Short Form question

    Posted: 05 May 2020 11:19 AM PDT

I'm working on my short forms out of David Swenson's book. I know in the full primary series there is a vinyasa between each side of each asana. But for the short forms he says "insert vinyasa between each seated asana." So should I: A) do both sides then a vinyasa Or B) do one side, vinyasa, other side, vinyasa

This is my first time ever really practicing by myself. Its strange.
