Flexibility: Butterfly pose problem: Whenever I get to this point, I lock up. I've pointed to where in the 4th photo. I can't physically go further, and feel no stretch? Any help is so welcome.

About 7 weeks progress of single leg bridge. Left is the first time I ever lifted my leg, right is today.

MY SPLITS - I feel like I’m doing something wrong. My legs look somewhat awkwardly positioned. What do you think I should work on? How long should I hold it? I took this picture today.

Three week split stretching progress! Still having issues with squaring my hips. I’ve been stuck in a vicious cycle of getting my splits, injuring my hamstring, resting, rinse and repeat.

What kind of training is needed to be able to just drop into the splits without warmup? Or get into splits without the help of gravity (like during aerial sports)?

    Posted: 06 May 2020 02:36 AM PDT

So I've achieved my front splits goal during the quarantine - just hit the floor for the first time a couple weeks ago so still working on it. I can now get into the splits after a 20 minute stretching session. But absolutely no hope of getting anywhere near the floor without extensive stretching first! My end goal is to be able to get into the splits "just like that" like you see drag queens dropping to the floor without a seconds thought 😂 I also want to be able to open my legs into the splits while in the air (I train aerial hoop) but right now I need the help of gravity and my bodyweight to "push" me down into the splits.

My question is do I just continue with my regular splits training routine, or is there a different technique to the kind of splits I'm talking about? If anyone can point me to some good routines for it I would be really grateful!

    Hamstring flexibility plateau

    Posted: 06 May 2020 01:59 AM PDT

    Hi everyone

I recently went to a physiotherapist for help with lower back pain, and was told that I have tight hamstrings and glutes.

Given this advice, I have been stretching my hamstrings and glutes 2-3 times a day. Bending over straight legged reaching for the floor for 20 seconds each time to stretch out my hamstrings.

After doing this for 4 weeks, I've noticed no change in my hamstring flexibility, and I'm still over a foot away from reaching the floor with my hands. Is there a reason my flexibility isn't improving?

    Thanks for any help.

    Hip Flexor Stretches

    Posted: 05 May 2020 10:48 AM PDT

I've asked this here before and got some great guidance (thanks!) but wanted to revisit with some feedback and further questions.

I was born about 3 months early, as a result, have had very tight hip flexors and hamstrings, can't do a pancake, etc. Been using the corona lockdown to work on hip flexors, been trying pigeon, the 90 90, eye of the needle, all that. Not seeing much improvement-am I going about this the wrong way, is it a lost cause, or do I just need to keep at it? Any beginner stretches for incredibly tight hip flexors would be appreciated.

    Types of stretching?

    Posted: 05 May 2020 07:01 AM PDT

If anyone could help me understand the difference between dynamic active, static active, passive etc.

And also their uses? Such as if someone wanted to be able to instantly achieve a high kick, would this require purely dynamic? Or static passive or active? Can you just do one type? If so, why not just do one type?

Trying to get a good understanding! Thanks for any help!

Sciatic Nerve Issues - Will I Ever be Flexible?

    Posted: 05 May 2020 09:28 AM PDT

I've never been flexible and hated doing any kind of lower body mobility work because anytime I tried to stretch my hamstrings I'd get radiating pain being my knee that would shoot down my feet.

All of the flexibility advice would say to push through it but I've never been able to make improvements and have always given up. I think the issue might be tightness in the sciatic nerve, but I'm not finding much info out there about how to improve mobility in light of that, or whether that's even possible.

Are there any folks out there who have managed to improve mobility with this issue? What helped you? How long did it take?

Is it normal to feel soreness from stretching for splits?

    Posted: 05 May 2020 05:04 AM PDT

Hi all. I'm attempting to stretch for splits daily. I always stop myself before reaching a point of pain, I only stretch to mild discomfort. But I am still experiencing hamstring soreness the next day. I just want to make sure this is normal and does not indicate that I am injuring myself. I am very much accustomed to soreness from strength training, but this is the first time I've experienced it from stretching alone.

    Straddle/Pancake help needed

    Posted: 05 May 2020 01:45 PM PDT

Hiya so I have been stretching for about 6 weeks now to try and get regular splits but also trying to improve my hip flexibility. Whilst I can do a straddle quite well when I'm on my back and my legs are against a wall, when I'm sat up trying to do it regularly my legs only go so far and I can't get them any wider! I think it's partly because my bum always rolls back but I don't know how to solve that problem.

Any tips would be appreciated for getting my legs out to a wider straddle position and keeping them there so they don't just move back in :)

    A concerned newbie

    Posted: 05 May 2020 12:21 PM PDT

I have been trying to work on general flexibility for awhile (haven't made much progress but I'm pretty new and hopeful I will). My main concern is that I have some weird hip issue that I don't even know the name of that I don't want to make worse. When I was very little I remember the doctors saying I had rotated hips and it shouldn't be a problem as long as nothing goes bad during puberty...well I'm fully grown now and I want to work on flexibility, and my hips in particular are very tight. That being said I don't have any pain or issues with my hips at all other than they are particularly tight and I remember being told they were rotated slightly...any tips as far as stretches for hips? Or does anyone else have this and have any tips? Also if it matters when I was younger I had slightly inward facing knees if that points to anything (since I've grown they've straightened out almost perfectly)Anything helps at all thanks so much !

I have sore knees, could it be from stretching?

    Posted: 05 May 2020 11:25 AM PDT

I've had sore knees for a couple of days now and haven't stretched since the pain began. I usually stretch 4 or 5 days a week for an hour. My knees were a little swollen the first day I noticed the pain. It's a dull, achy pain and hurts most when I'm standing.

Does anyone have the same problems, or know any solutions? Thanks.
