Anyone else feel an extremely strong pressure in their forehead? Posted: 21 May 2020 08:32 PM PDT As I focus, relax, and sink deeper, I get an extremely strong pressure in my frontal lobe, the very center of my forehead. It's to the point it physically and involuntarily draws my facial muscles to that point so my entire face is scrunched. It doesn't hurt, but it's uncomfortable. I let this build up until it stops escalating, hold for a few seconds, and tell it to relax, then mentally massage my brain. I know what it sounds like, but I'm not jumping to conclusion. Anyone else experience this? [link] [comments]
How do you let go of trauma through mediation? Posted: 21 May 2020 10:16 PM PDT I've practiced focusing mediations where I just focus on the present but it seems more like escapism. What are some meditation where you look for the trauma and practice letting go of it? [link] [comments]
Why does the mind always worry about negative thoughts? Posted: 22 May 2020 12:14 AM PDT Even though I imagine and think positive thoughts, after meditation and even in between, my mind always goes back to the negative thoughts and worry about them. My mind never absorbs the positive messages. It is going back to the same bubble of negativity. For each positive message I send, my mind counters with 10x more negativity. It feels like I am sailing in a sea of negativity in a tiny boat called positivity using my hands as paddles. [link] [comments]

Posted: 21 May 2020 07:39 PM PDT Started meditating everyday when I wake up for a minimum of 20 minutes, today was my 10th day in a row. I never could get into a daily rhythm before, my best was once a week, maybe twice if I was lucky. I always meditated in the evenings in the past, but decided to try my first morning meditation 10 days ago. Turns out it was really nice and made my goal 60 consecutive days to start. I use insight timer which helps a lot, love the community aspect. I primarily use the timer with the guitar strum and focus on my breath. Done many meditation meetups in the past so I'm familiar with some techniques already. I noticed the first positive effects last night when I was reading. I sometimes have a hard time focusing on what I'm reading, but last night I had zero outside thoughts coming into play while focusing on what I was reading better than I can ever remember before. Anyway, just wanted to share with a meditation community about my first milestone. And if anyone has favorite meditations/audio on Insight Timer I'd love to check it out! [link] [comments]

I am using meditation to run away from my emotions. How do I stop Posted: 22 May 2020 02:18 AM PDT I posted about this a few days ago but I'm able to word my problem a little bit better. Basically, whenever i feel the slightest bit of pain, I automatically tell myself "I need to meditate" or I try really hard to become more aware of my emotions, but it never works. Me trying so hard to become more aware of my pain IS preventing me from doing so. This happens unconsciously, pretty much, almost instantly whenever I feel pain. Any advice??? Whenever I take some advice or try to relax myself I overthink it AGAIN and I can never really relax [link] [comments]
I'd really like to start meditation on the absence of stimulus. Posted: 22 May 2020 01:59 AM PDT I've come to realize recently that I would like to start meditating. A thought came to me the other night, as I sat scrolling on my phone. I am constantly trying to flood my brain with endorphins and stimuli. We all kind of are in 2020, we are programmed to want constant stimuli. We get that via sex, food, drugs, social media, our phones, attention, etc. I want to be able to start existing within the space of my own mind, without feeling the constant need for things. Is there an ideology kind of like this, or a practice I can start researching on? How do you even meditate? I've got ADD so it's a little difficult to get started. [link] [comments]
I listened to Allen watts tape on meditation. I can say I was doing it all wrong before. Posted: 21 May 2020 09:50 AM PDT I realized meditation is letting go. Giving into the present. Not forcing your breathing or even controlling it. Just letting it happen. It feels much better like that. It feels like you are where your supposed to be. [link] [comments]

Posted: 21 May 2020 07:29 PM PDT Your ego is there to protect you and serve you. Sometimes it doesn't do what's best for you, but it's a protective mechanism for survival; don't demonize it. [link] [comments]
I lean to the left when I think Posted: 21 May 2020 05:49 PM PDT I noticed in meditation, if I ever follow thought for too long and get sucked into distraction, I slowly lean. I lean slightly forward and to the left and the longer I drift, the further I lean. I'll notice when I snap outta it and notice my posture. Sometimes I'll feel my body slowly lean and when I notice it, it snaps me out of thought. And this happens multiple times during one meditation. When extremely still and quiet tho, there is no lean. Anyone else like this? [link] [comments]
Posted: 22 May 2020 12:07 AM PDT Hi guys. This afternoon, i've decided to lay in bed with some relaxing music and close my eyes and let my mind empty and thoughts float around for 35 mins. Whilist in the moment, I've had visuals of clouds at night and purple skies. After those 35 mins, i've got up with some calming aura emanating from the outside of my body to inside. Would this class as meditation? Thank you [link] [comments]

Does meditation brings up physical illnesses also ? Posted: 21 May 2020 09:56 PM PDT Hi, Being aware of the fact that mindfulness brings repressed emotions to the surface. Wanted to know the opinion whether it applies to physical illness also. Like can mindfulness brings the illness on the starting stage. Thanks in advance [link] [comments]

Guided meditation for abundance Posted: 21 May 2020 08:45 PM PDT
Posted: 21 May 2020 08:38 PM PDT Something that has really troubled me the past few months is missing my ex's. Ive been feeling alone and I'm trying to focus on completely letting go of them to help feel free again. I don't miss them personally, considering all of the emtional and physical abuse, but for the physical and emotional support they sometimes supplied. Any tips on how I can meditate about this? It'd be greatly appreciated, and I hope you all are having a fantastic day. [link] [comments]
Breath of Life: The Respiratory Vagal Stimulation Model of Contemplative Activity Posted: 21 May 2020 07:47 PM PDT https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC6189422/#B50 Found an interesting and lengthy article attempting to isolate the possible underlying mechanisms of meditation related changes to the brain/body as related to breath regulation and its effects on the vagus nerve Basically the authors propose that the positive changes we see from meditation are linked to changes in overall function of the vagus nerve, PNS/SNS balance, and positive feedback loops. This could explain one measure of how meditation (long term) affects the body and brain. Also discusses long term structural and functional changes to the brain and specific neural connectivity as a result of meditation, all with prior research cited. A really damn good read [link] [comments]
Posted: 21 May 2020 04:25 AM PDT This is a list of 7 timeless skills. What I have written down are my definitions of them. Each of us will have different definitions, different meaning for these skills. I'm sure this list will grow. If you choose to work on them, they will collectively serve a purpose. They will help you achieve success in whichever way you define it. The idea of progress, in my opinion, is also subjective for them. The purpose is for them to be anchors or foundations upon which you build your individual personalities and expertise. They should come in handy to everyone from different walks of life. Judgement As Seth Godin says, "This is an hour when the gatekeepers have left the building". Anyone can sell themselves through the internet. Since we our own filters now, what we require is judgment to tell the difference. There is no particular hack to develop judgement. Although experience and awareness are of key importance here. Patience What I'm proposing here is patience not in its usually perceived sense. While patience as a whole is important, I'm talking about patience on a micro level, patience in moments. You can even call this Impulse Control. We must acknowledge that we humans are irrational beings. Most of the time we are acting on our impulses. Our attention spans are shorter than ever. But we don't have to be slave to these impulses. With effort and awareness, we can master these impulses. Awareness Again, just like patience and judgement, this skill binds itself and many others together. What I don't have is a concrete definition of this skill. But I think, awareness is knowing the real reason behind our actions, seeing through the stories we tell ourselves. Why we do certain things, understanding why we have certain needs. You can say, it is knowing ourselves better. There are several tools that can help you in this journey, like mindfulness meditation and journaling. Reading We have one life to live. Yet we can experience hundreds of others. Dive into the wisdom of great men. Look at the world through their lenses. All this, through books. Any book can only change you, if you allow it to. Judgement will be your friend on this journey. While you will encounter many hacks to speed-reading. I think, it can only be achieved through reading more and more. Deep Work There are more distractions in this era than ever. Doing our work without any distractions is more difficult. Even if you're able to cut through the distractions created by people, your phone is waiting in your pocket to do its job. Tech behemoths are fight over your attention, laying well thought traps at every corner. This is where Deep Work comes into the picture. This term is coined by Professor Cal Newport, who explains it beautifully in his book with the same name. Listening Nobody is really listening. Even, while engaging in conversations, we're engrossed in thinking about what to speak next when the other person is talking. And with our attention spans shorter than ever, its even more difficult to pay unadulterated attention. Good listening goes beyond words. I, personally, find it pretty difficult to do. I recently read a book called You're not Listening by Journalist Kate Murphy. It was a great read. I highly recommend it. She does a great job explaining this skill. So since, hardly anybody is listening properly, you can give the ones you care about, the gift of true listening. Thinking Most times, we can't see beyond what's in front of us. Be it the masks that people wear, or difficult situations, or almost anything. The truth mostly lies beyond that. But since, we get stuck at the first level, we end up speculating. This skill will mean different things in different situations. [link] [comments]
