Welcome to Form Check Friday! Here is the link to all previous Form Check Fridays

Please post a photo or video of the stretch you'd like to be critiqued. Do include any specific questions you have about your form.

Your video or photo should be:

    • Oriented the correct way, we want to see the lines of your body
    • Be formatted such that there isn't unnecessary video of you preparing for the move (keep it short)
    • Have the important bits of the movement clearly visible (multiple angles is always useful)
    • Include the whole body

    Rules for critiquing form

    • Constructive criticism only
    • Feel free to point others to resources that address their form and/or questions if you aren't "qualified" to give them advice yourself

If your form is awesome, consider posting it in the Show Off Sunday thread!

    Handstands and contortion!

    Posted: 21 May 2020 08:42 PM PDT

A week ago I saw someone mentioned Kit Laughlin’s free stretch and flexibility book. Just wanted to let you guys know there’s also a free video!

    Posted: 21 May 2020 01:41 PM PDT

Sorry if I've done anything wrong, this is my first time posting here but here is the link to Kit's video

It's 87 mins long and, from the video description, goes over the following stretches:

    • Shoulder mobility, stretching and strengthening exercises, using both short and long sticks
    • Hamstring exercises, done from the lunge position, and old hamstring exercises revisited using the bent-to-straight-knee approach
    • Hip flexor stretches
    • Advanced tailor pose variations
    • Latest versions of QL stretches
    • Detailed modified front splits

I hope this helps some of you!

Mobility Session #13 - FOLLOW ALONG

    Shoulder mobility issue

    Posted: 21 May 2020 06:12 PM PDT

I lay on my back, extend my arms up towards the ceiling, then while keeping my arms straightened, I bend them towards the floor above my head.

The back of my right hand touches the floor with ease. My left hand is a few inches off the floor. When I force it to touch the floor, it really hurts my shoulder and I have to release in a few seconds.

What's wrong and what should I do to fix this?

    Thanks for your help!

What should I do if I have an imbalance of flexibility with my body?

    Posted: 21 May 2020 02:25 PM PDT

I wasn't sure of the correct wording, but essentially, the right side of my body is significantly more flexible than my left side. So, my question is: should I continue to equally stretch both sides of my body or only stretch my left side in order for my left side to sort of catch up in flexibility with my right side?

    Middle split

    Posted: 21 May 2020 11:15 AM PDT

Im 19 and It has been nearly a year since I started working on my splits and stretching. I achieved the front splits however I still can't do the middle split. Its like there is a stop point in my hip joint and my leg don't go anymore. I can not practice like standing and trying to push down cuz it makes stop point worse and painful. Instead I try to lift my legs on the wall then try to push them down. Its feels better for my joint and it seems more controlled stretching. But still, I can not get my middle split. Is there a problem with my bone structure or does that mean that I just need more stretching ?

Does anyone know how I can improve lower back strength?

    Posted: 21 May 2020 08:20 AM PDT

Hi, I'm currently looking for some exercises to improve lower back flexibility. Do you guys know any good exercises apart from the common ones like back raises?
