No Asana, but I love the deep squat spinal rotation in the Morning

Here's a handstand/arm balance prep I do! I like that it's a work out and a stretch all in one. (Working on stabilizing my hips as I do it)

Yoga Sutras for When Everything is F*cking Horrible

    Posted: 06 Jun 2020 02:20 PM PDT

This sub is full of pictures of people doing complex asanas, which are only a very small portion of yoga. There was a thread that got popular a while back and it seems that many of us want this sub to have more varied content relating to all parts of yoga. Here's my contribution.

This is an interpretation of the first two chapters of the yoga sutras that a teacher shared with me early in my practice, and I think it's especially relevant now. I hope you get something out of it.

Do nose piercing affect yoga pranayams?

    Posted: 06 Jun 2020 05:09 PM PDT

I am thinking about getting a piercing either on the side of the nose or the septum. I am practicing 1.5-2hr of pranayams daily which includes Nadi shodhana alternate nostril breathing and I don't want to do anything which can negatively impact the practice. Does anyone have any experience with this or can guide me?

Yogis with scoliosis: tips, tricks, modifications, and advice?

    Posted: 06 Jun 2020 01:59 PM PDT

First, let me just say that I love this community and I've searched r/yoga for scoliosis-related material, but what's here isn't quite what I'm looking for.

I've been practicing yoga for 15 years with scoliosis the whole time. I've deepened my practice a lot and been able to reach poses that were pipe dreams even a few years ago, and I'm so grateful for all of the things yoga does for me. That being said, I can't tell you how many times a teacher has said "flatten your back" to me and I just can't because of the curve in my spine. That's not on them, and that's why I'm posting here: what are some modifications, tips, tricks, etc that have helped you achieve a flat(ish) back and full expression of poses? My blocks and strap are my best friends, but I feel like I've hit a plateau.

Urinating after 3 weeks of doing yoga, Help!!

    Posted: 06 Jun 2020 02:20 PM PDT

Hey, so I did yoga (shoulderstand) for like 25 days straight because I read it prevents wet dreams (I usually got them every 3 weeks). It is interesting that I started to pee every hour after this period. Also, occasionally my kegel muscle (or some other muscle that is sligthly "deeper) would twitch randomly throughout the day. It has been like this for several months now and its so unbearable! How can I correct this issue that I think is correlated to muscle disfunction from (likely) doing the yoga exercise wrong?

    Modifications for ankle mobility issues

    Posted: 06 Jun 2020 02:07 PM PDT

Hey! Thanks for reading! A few years ago i broke my right ankle and after some surgeries and pt and some serious work trying to avoid surgery number 4, yoga helped me get the clear from my ortho to carry on without another surgery. Trick is, the more i get into yoga, the more i realize how much less flexible my right leg, specifically my calf, is than my left, and how much it affects the symmetry in my poses. Any tips or recommendations to avoid becoming totally lopsided?

    Flexbility Question

    Posted: 06 Jun 2020 08:35 AM PDT

I am an 18yo male, and I want to be more flexible to the point where I can get into front and box splits.

Im very inflexible at the moment, but am currently stretching 2-3 times per day at my maximum pain threshold with 30s-1m on each muscle group.

My goal is to get into splits within a month or two. At this pace though, I feel like it would take a year. Any other tips?

Looking to start a small business for private yoga classes but I need some help

    Posted: 06 Jun 2020 10:49 AM PDT

I am currently in massage therapy school. I hope to eventually have my own private practice while also incorporating private yoga lessons. I won't graduate from massage school for another year but I do have my 200 hour and I did teach public classes for awhile (I quit due to school and work).

Since quarantine, I offered private yoga classes to friends to get some practice and I love it. People keep asking me about private yoga classes so I'm wondering if I should get serious with this small side gig to set myself up later on when I'm done with massage school.

I'm wondering where to start. Do I start with making an LLC for myself? I'm not going to have a brick and mortar, but I want to teach privates online or meet people at their homes. I want to make this more legit so that I'm not afraid to advertise that I'm doing this online and to protect myself legally.

Also, has anyone done this and screwed up their finances with taxes at all in the long run? I'm not expecting to make much $$ doing this, maybe just as a side gig so that people have me in their mind when they think about massage/yoga. I'm afraid to have to owe a ton a money in taxes, but I have no idea!!

I'm just not sure where to start in order for everyone to be safe and for me to be able to offer this legally and publicly. Any help is appreciated!

    Thank you!

[COMP] Inspire my flow: chair -> warrior 3 -> shoulder stand

    Posted: 06 Jun 2020 09:23 AM PDT

Today's challenge was to include: Chair to Warrior 3 and a Shoulder Stand into a flow.

    https://youtu.be/HDlTY6LX660

What should I do next? Make your suggestions for poses or transitions in the comments and my challenge will be to join them into a smooth flow!

Make it easy or make it hard :)

u/WildTexasYogi sorry it took so long to include your pose!

My hope is that a lot of yogis give me inspiration to come up with new, easy or challenging flows, and that other's join in on this game!

    Butterfly pose

    Posted: 06 Jun 2020 05:06 AM PDT

Please any advice on how to achieve this posture?

I have no problem at all into releasing my hips down but my back is like stuck...when i breath, it does go down a little, but a crazy pain start to appear on my lower back.

I usually suffer from back pain and i don't really want to force it at all, but i'd like to slowly and carefully progress into backbends and folding from the hips.

    Thank you

Five Tibetan rites - a bit lost on the spinning?

    Posted: 06 Jun 2020 03:29 AM PDT

Hi all. I must preface this with the fact that I am not a yogi. I'm a long-distance runner who has been using the Five Tibetan rites each morning to loosen up and continue my practice after I meditate.

From a physical point of view, the Rites clearly have flexibility/calisthenic benefits - but I'm struggling with the spinning.

What is it meant to do? I can't see any point in it from a physical perspective. Is it primarily related to mind/soul? Or is there something about it that I'm missing?

I want to drop it from the practice as it basically just gives me a headache and seems pointless - but I'm sure I'm wrong and don't want to be ignorant.

Thank you for reading if you got this far!
