Start of week 4: definitely seeing improvement in front split. Side split much slower going. No longer feeling pain in the tendons around my knees!

    Pain While Doing Butterfly Stretch

    Posted: 06 Jul 2020 10:34 PM PDT

Hi! I am new to reddit and I'm not really sure how to do formatting or if I'm ok for making this post in the first place, but hopefully I can get some help. I usually lurk on reddit without logging in, which is why I have no history (I also don't know how or what karma is).

As you can tell by my username, I am trying to do the splits. I am watching/following various tutorials I found from here, youtube, and just through googling. I used to be very flexible as I kid, I could put both legs behind my head and walk with my hands.. but I have definitely lost a lot of flexibility due to being a couch potato.

One of the stretches I like to do is the butterfly stretch (not sure if there's another name for it). I can go pretty deep into it, but for some reason I have been having pain in my left leg, where my leg and groin meet. It's like a pinching/numbing feeling... or like my bones aren't lined up right. I'm not sure how to explain it. I don't have any pain on my right side.

I've been trying to google the answer, but I'm not really sure what it is still. I only get this pain when I'm doing butterfly stretches (from what I can tell). I did recently figure out my hamstrings are tight, which causes my back to round out when I am sitting on my butt, so I have been using blocks to keep my back straight as well. I have pain either way. My left buttcheck is bigger than my right lol, so could that be causing an issue?

Sorry this is so long! Thank you to whoever tries to help me :)

I have joint hypermobility. My joints tremble regardless of how much strength I use to hold a pose. So far no health problems. Anyone else with this condition? And what do you do to maintain joint health?

Where should I focus my flexibility training to achieve Lord of the Dance (Natarajasana)?

Where should I focus my flexibility training to achieve Lord of the Dance (Natarajasana)?

    Hello r/flexibility!

I have been doing yoga for about 4 years and now that I finally have a consistent practice, I am focusing some flexibility work towards a couple of poses I would LOVE to achieve one day.

One pose is pancake splits, but I have a pretty good idea of what I need to work on to get there.

The other pose is Lord of the Dance aka King Dancer aka Natarajasana. This picture sums up what I would love the pose to look like for me:

...aaand this is where I am today after 30 minutes of yoga warm up:

When I try it I feel tight almost everywhere, so I don't really know where to begin or what I actually need to improve to reach this. I feel like it could be a problem with my shoulder flexibility, back flexibility, hip flexor flexibility, or maybe all of the above.

I would appreciate some feedback if anyone has insight on what I need to work on based on where I am now. Thank you so much for your time :)

19 year old me doing a Sea jump! This jump requires a lot flexibility

    Posted: 06 Jul 2020 04:58 AM PDT

I [22 F] have extreme flexibility due to a genetic mutation, and I want to try wrapping my body around my boyfriend's (25 M) chest to see if I can restrict his breathing like a snake.

I have unusual flexibility due to a genetic thing and I can pull my feet behind my head when I'm lying on my back making a shape similar to snake coils. I want to wrap my entire body around his chest and then 'tighten' my grip.

10 Minute Yoga ( GREAT Morning Yoga Stretches )

Is it normal to feel the knee being pulled upwards on the inside while stretching adductors?

    Posted: 06 Jul 2020 01:22 PM PDT

Specifically when I sit with my feet spread and yo the wall. Reaching for the wall.

Can't sit with my legs straight in front I_

    Posted: 06 Jul 2020 05:05 AM PDT

When I try to stand with my back straight on the wall (like this I_ ) I can't straighten my leg, while if I start with straight legs my butt is miles away from the wall and my back rounds WAY TOO MUCH. How can I fix this? I want to mantain this position effortlessly, as it will help me a lot in the long run for a lot of exercises, but for now I am a complete mess in terms of mobility. Funny thing is that I have APT, so theoretically I should have tight hip flexors and loose/weak hamstrings, while I feel like I have tight hamstrings and weak hip flexors. Maybe they're both weak and tight. Should I do strengthening exercises for both followed by stretching?

Got a question regarding the shoulder joint...

    Posted: 06 Jul 2020 06:48 AM PDT

Whenever I raise my left arm, I feel a tendon moving in the front and making a snapping (sound/feel), what tendon (biceps?!) do you think is that? and what is the cause of that? How can I treat it?

    Notes:

    • I feel no pain in my shoulder, all that is there is some lack of mobility probably.
    • I'm 18, have a past of no injuries to the shoulder and I exercise regularly.
    • I also work on my external rotators but that doesn't seem to be improving the condition.
    • I also have some scapular winging, but I've always had that and I'm trying to fix it, plus that the snapping sound is only in my left arm even though my right is more winged.
