Yoga really is for everyBODY - even my 18 month old! Posted: 08 Jul 2020 05:47 AM PDT Yesterday, someone posted about yoga being for everyBODY and I 1000% agree with that statement. Yoga can benefit anyone, all ages, any shape. This morning my lower back was feeling really tight and sore. I usually wait to pull my mat out for my daily in-home practice until my youngest naps - but this morning, I just could not wait. My back was screaming at me to stretch. My three year old cheered with excitement, "MOMMYS DOING YOGA! I want to do yoga with mommy too!" So we did some yoga. I walked him through the poses that are in his children's book about yoga that we read often, we do this together frequently. My youngest was watching Mickey and playing with toys but became interested in the yogi happenings across the room. My three year old and I were in happy baby. Littlest one toddled over and sat right on my head. It was cute. I thought to myself, this is why I wait until you're napping. I decided to get off my back so he couldn't sit on my head. I make my way to downward dog and next thing I know, both of my children are also in downward dog. Then we transitioned to "frog" and other easy poses for them to understand/mirror. I was beyond impressed. My 18 month old and 3 year old both loved practicing with me. It wasn't what I had intended when I laid out my mat but it was exactly what we all needed. A great start to our busy day. Yoga truly is for everybody. [link] [comments]
"Mystical" Experience of Nothingness? Posted: 08 Jul 2020 06:12 PM PDT Has anyone had the experience while doing Yoga (Yin style in Shavasana) of letting go completely and release all attachment from your body in and thoughts. The blackness starts to go in circles as if you were seeing a cycle or earth move around spinning quickly and my heart starts beating very quickly and eyes move extremely fast (like REM sleep). I could still hear the outside world and I could somewhat feel my body (certainly my eyes and heart). I felt a part of be died during this experience and I feel reborn in a good way. I think I still have some fear of whatever it was (it felt like I died), but I just let it happen as I desire to be fearless. Possibly a fear of death? But now I feel much more focused, empowered, and loving. I am more present and I feel my OCD was just obliterated as well as some other things I am not aware of. I don't know what to think of this except what God is telling me, so I am curious if anyone knows anything about this. I've only done Yoga for a month lol. [link] [comments]
New Yogi ! Advice on a safe beginning practice? Posted: 08 Jul 2020 04:45 PM PDT Hi hi! Im new to keeping a practice and I am otherwise inflexible and non-athletic. Soo I want to make sure I don't hurt myself! My local yoga studio is closed because of the virus so I won't be able to go to an in person session anytime soon. I think this will be ok as I am more comfortable on my own doing yoga anyway (not being able to compare myself to others). But! I find that most 'beginner' flows are still a bit difficult for me and I'm worried that I might strain and hurt myself before I build the muscle to try certain positions. Are there any flows that have worked really well as a complete beginner to build strength safely? I find that even a sun salutation makes me worried I might hurt myself. Any advice is welcome! And if there is a sub where this is already discussed, please point me to it! [link] [comments]

What’s up with Yoga to the People?? Posted: 08 Jul 2020 11:55 AM PDT So I live in NYC but I know there are studios all over the country - does anyone have any insight as to what is going on? I've seen the Instagram posts from yttpshadowwork and am appalled as this seems to be everything yttp is against and it really makes me sad as yttp was my first studio I practiced consistently at and felt that "magic." I was even thinking of getting my teacher training through them. Also, all their websites/social media have been deleted or are "under maintenance" - is it closed for good? If so, are there similar donation based studios I can fund instead, especially during this quarantine? As well as free/cheap online classes. Thanks guys! [link] [comments]
Posted: 08 Jul 2020 03:20 PM PDT 31 yr old male. Spent last 5 years injured. (Both elbows left hand left wrist left ITB) Finished PT in January and started doing diet exercise and weight lifting. I've noticed though I'm really not getting much more flexible. This matters as my goal is to enlist in military in April as a 32 yr old. I've only got one shot so I need to be as prepared as possible. Since March I've gone from 280 to 235 and I can feel/use all my muscles again. So given that, would Yoga make sense for me and my goal? EDIT If so what should I get gear wise? I've just started my athletic journey so pretty novice clothing wise however I've noticed the right stuff helps a lot. [link] [comments]

Posted: 08 Jul 2020 09:33 AM PDT Hey everyone, I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for a Spotify playlist for when I'm practicing. I found a few but they just were either way to fast or too loud and intrusive. I'm looking for something that's more calming, for more slower flows if that makes any sense. [link] [comments]
| I’m struggling with my well endowed boobs and calves. Help!! Posted: 08 Jul 2020 10:33 AM PDT The title basically says it all, so any help is appreciated. My boobs (36E-H depending on brand) make low lunges, lizard pose, down dog, headstands, child's pose, etc. extremely difficult, uncomfortable, and occasionally painful. They are typically in the way during transitions between poses and during certain poses, or they fall down and suffocate me regardless of the sports bra support level. Then I have massive calves. This makes staff pose super hard because I can't get my heels to touch the ground if they are flexed. They also make it difficult for child's pose, vajrasana, and similar poses because I get propped up more than a normal person would. I am fairly flexible, but I get stuck in poses or can't do them correctly because body parts get in the way. If anyone has had similar experiences or issues, I'd really appreciate the help!! | What's harder? Crow pose or headstand? Posted: 08 Jul 2020 08:44 AM PDT I've been trying to do a headstand but I'm having a hard time getting my legs up from like a dolphin pose (I can hold a plank and hollow hold for 1 minute) . When I look at crow pose, looks like it can train my core at a lower height first then I can do a headstand. But I'm not really sure. What do u guys think? Any tips on getting my legs up will also be appreciated [link] [comments] |
| Posted: 08 Jul 2020 03:50 AM PDT I'm 19, and wanting to do Yoga for a while now. I used to think that Yoga was only for stretching but I've realized that it's so much more than that! I want to be able to be more flexible (can't even do a split) & just be more comfortable in my body. I've just started to workout 5 days a week, and I can implement Yoga on the other 2 days or anyway at all actually. I'm 5'6" & weight around 150 pounds. Any & all advice is appreciated! | What are some asanas that can help me get rid of my belly fat and tone my body? Posted: 08 Jul 2020 09:33 AM PDT Would appreciate any diet advice as well. I am an Indian so generic advice would be helpful. Thank you so much! [link] [comments] |

Posted: 08 Jul 2020 07:44 AM PDT I don't know if this was the correct place to post this but I have a question. I'm somewhat of a good athlete but I've always just been on the sideline watching the game. Never really got to shine due to some internal and external factors, but I've observed a lot of things. I noticed that almost every athlete (at the high school level at least) doesn't stretch. This is even more evident when you come across a prodigy or an absolute god on the field. I was wondering how much more of a "God" could these athletes be if they focused on things like yoga and strengthening the tendons (physical therapy exercises) like they do cardio and weightlifting? Would there be a noticeable positive/negative change? The reason why am asking is because I want to become a wrestler but I've noticed the some coaches won't let you do certain moves because to put simply you probably won't be able to those moves due to flexibility and other factors. Wrestling isnt the only sport I played I'm just using it as an example to get my question across. I honestly see this the most in football players. [link] [comments]
Is baby crow harder than crow, or easier? Posted: 08 Jul 2020 06:28 AM PDT I am having the idea of creating an app that has various skill progressions in yoga, flexibility and bodyweight strength. I know that baby crow is often suggested as an easier modification of crow, but I just tried it and I find it to be really hard, way harder than my crow which is pretty decent. Is baby crow a good precursor pose to learning crow, or should it be seen as something separate? [link] [comments]
