Posted: 17 Jul 2020 03:32 PM PDT When doing yoga with certain YouTube yoga teachers, or seeing videos of more experienced yogis here on reddit, I often see there is a common sequence. For example, so often downward dog goes to plank, then upward facing dog or cobra, then back again. I often feel the need to do yoga myself without instruction, with closed eyes in dark and silence, but I kind of get lost thinking what should I do next. I often just listen to my body spontaneously lead me to the next one, but I was wondering what do yogic teachings say about this. Many of you might tell me to just do what feels good, but I believe in logic and knowledge behind the yogic teachings that have been accumulated over thousands of years and kind of don't want to just do stuff randomly. I would like to understand the "why" behind it. Thanks! [link] [comments]
Posted: 17 Jul 2020 03:19 PM PDT Hey :) I have practicing yoga daily for half a year now and I really enjoy it but sometimes it feels a little lonely since none of my friends are into it. I would love to have a yoga buddy to share successes and weaknesses with, talk about poses, transitions and posture. I'm from Germany but I have a really messed up sleep schedule so I think I could make it work even if we have a bigger time difference. If anyone is interested please reach out! Have a nice day everyone [link] [comments]
Tree pose with extremely high arches Posted: 17 Jul 2020 04:53 PM PDT Hello, I have extremely high arches and flexible feet, which causes me to need orthotics and my foot/ankle specialist prescribed high support shoes to keep my foot from collapsing from the way it's built combined with it being too flexible. (I have high arches, plantar fasciitis, and extreme pronation) I have great balance in shoes but barefoot, on one foot, basically feels like I have an ice skate for a foot because of the high arch, only my foot is very flexible so more like a rubber ice skate or a small trout. My custom inserts are like speed bumps. Having major difficulty with tree pose, y'all. Not sure how to balance or ground through my foot when the whole thing doesn't touch the ground. I'm six days into yoga. Halp pls! Thank you! [link] [comments]
Posted: 17 Jul 2020 06:18 AM PDT I am not new to yoga but I can't do a standing or seated forward fold, my hips and hamstrings feel pretty tight. What poses/stretches can i do to improve? Thank you!! [link] [comments]

Cork & Natural Rubber Mats and "stretching"?! Posted: 17 Jul 2020 05:30 PM PDT Hey y'all! I recently designed my own cork & natural rubber mat and really love everything about it. I did notice there to be an issue with what looks like an "air bubble". It's not really an accurate term, it's more so when I apply pressure to the mat, it sort of stretches. I contacted the supplier with the problem. They just said it's the rubber doing that because it's soft and elastic. They sent me videos of them doing the same thing on other mats. Is this normal? There's no real damaged. The mat is still perfectly fine and normal shaped. I just wondering if this is supposed to happen. This is my first experience with a cork mat. [link] [comments]

| Posted: 17 Jul 2020 03:18 PM PDT And I'm loving yoga so far. Obviously doing nothing more than following an instructor on an app. My question is, how many days a week for a beginner? I'm also doing cardio at work, Mon-Fri. As well as a full body weights routine Mon/Wed/Fri. So my yoga days are Tue/Thur/Sat/Sun. (Sorry for throwing all these days out there). I'm kicking around ditching the weights for a while. So there will be more yoga. Bonus question: any specific routines/workouts I should be doing as a newb? Thanks for your patience.!! | Sweaty hands! Not even the yoga towel is helping. Posted: 17 Jul 2020 01:24 PM PDT Hello! I'm doing yoga for quite some time now, got a mat for Christmas that was supposed to be extra grippy but I soon needed to use a towel so my hands were somewhat safe from slipping. I used a small normal towel and only put it where my hands were but to really get a grip I needed to have my hands kinda part on my mat and part on my towel and it was really annoying. Now I bought a big yoga towel to put on the mat and hoped it would solve my sweaty hands problem but it feels slippery too. It gets better when I start to sweat more so at least that's something? I did read though that it could also be slippery because I don't place my hands right. I think it was something about doing like a tent with the hands and not putting them flat on the mat during downward facing dog? Could it really be that? I would love to be able to relax fully and concentrate on my body and not be distracted by my hands slipping away all the time. [link] [comments] |
What am I missing with ashtanga? Posted: 17 Jul 2020 05:49 AM PDT I have been doing regular vinyasa for a while but saw some videos of ty landrum doing ashtanga and decided that I want to devote some time to practice ashtanga. But looking at the primary series, there's some unilateral postures like side planks, warrior 3, and others that I like. Would I be truly missing out on some of these postures or is there enough in ashtanga to make it a complete practice that challenges both sides [link] [comments]
Posted: 17 Jul 2020 09:29 AM PDT I've been getting back into kettlebell workouts the last three weeks and I've added more diversity to my warmup and stretching and have been focusing on lower weight with better form but my back is still tightening up. Are there any recommendations on warmup and/or stretching routines that anyone here uses? [link] [comments]
Navasana - protruding tailbone Posted: 17 Jul 2020 06:46 AM PDT Hello, I have been doing yoga for about 10 months now and I think I have made great progress. I am now doing a lot of core-firming exercises to get into more challenging poses like pincha and hopefully, later on, handstand. However, while these exercises generally go welll, I feel that my tailbone, which is naturally more protruding than with most people, is interfering with me doing a proper navasana - it hurts. I'd have to put a pillow under there, a towel isn't enough. Is there anyone else with this issue? What do you do? [link] [comments]

How do you guys deal with back fatigue? Posted: 17 Jul 2020 11:55 AM PDT Whenever i stand up for a prolonged period of time, my back gives out. Not exactly sure what could be causing this problem, but i would definitely like some help on getting it fixed. My posture is subpar as well, and i believe it might be contributing to the aforementioned back fatigue. Any tips on walking around or standing up for a prolonged period of time without any back exhaustion? Thanks [link] [comments]
Posted: 17 Jul 2020 11:28 AM PDT Hello fellow yogis. I started practicing yoga in January, but then I had a fall out in March, and now I've been back doing it everyday for about a month. My question is regarding wheel - does it come more from strength, or from a correct form? I feel like I have a decent form, but when I try to lift myself I can barely get my neck off the ground [link] [comments]
| Posted: 17 Jul 2020 10:51 AM PDT Anyone else practice yoga and another form of fitness that results in sore muscles? I love yoga and lifting but it's difficult and unpleasant to do yoga when I have sore muscles from lifting, particularly shoulders and lower body. How do you structure your workouts? | When I google "top yoga influencers" all I see are white faces. Posted: 17 Jul 2020 12:04 AM PDT None of the recommended YouTubers in the yoga community are ever Indian, nor the people who own studios in my area. I've read a lot about the whitewashing of yoga, and how it was initially outlawed in India during colonial rule only for white westerners to capitalise off it in the modern day. As a South Asian, this makes the community feel very alienating. This isn't a critique of the big yoga influencers (they seem lovely) but I was wondering if you could recommend me some English-language Indian yoga youtubers to get started with, as I've really struggled to find them. Thanks in advance <3 edit: to clarify, i'm happy that ppl of all races enjoy yoga, and i'm not trying to force anything. i'm just asking for recommendations for Indian yoga youtubers without any intent to offend anyone [link] [comments] |
