- [COMP] puppy pose, interrupted
- [COMP] I've been joining a few ashtanga classes and my body is responding so well to it! I'm learning so much from a traditional and disciplined practice.
- [COMP] nothing special, just finally able to move slightly after a back injury- bound side bend. Feels good to stand up :)
- [COMP] King dancer and Yosemite’s Half Dome. Too scared of trying to hold my feet with two hands and my shoulders are not very flexible. Tips appreciated!
- [COMP] First chinstand and chinstand scorpion!
- I have been doing Yoga With Adriene 30 days challenge. I am at day 17 and all my lower back and leg muscles are sore. I am wondering whether this is because of insufficient warmup or whether it is my body responding to exercise (I am not particularly physically active).
- Did a quick sketch tonight of myself doing Baddha Eka Pada Rajakapotasana in March 2017 [COMP]
- Is there a more "graceful" way to go from low lunge, knee down, to high lunge, if you struggle with transitioning through low lunge?
- Heathyoga mat not sticky!?
- Anxiety/adrenaline feeling in my muscles during my poses/stretches? Is this normal? Sorry if this is ranty or sciencey lol

| Posted: 18 Jul 2020 06:53 PM PDT I don' t really feel comfortable in going from low lunge, knee down, to low lunge, as it hurts my back knee - i think due to my weight. on my right side I can sometimes touch the floor with my hands when in low lunge, knee down, but its pretty rare on my left side. in april, i couldn't really touch the ground with my hands at all, so that is improving but for now, the quickest way I find i can reliably transition from low lunge, knee down, to high lunge is to place my hands to inner side of my front leg, and use them to lift up, step together, and step back into a high lunge, but i don't find this graceful or fluid. is there something else i can do instead? | Posted: 18 Jul 2020 01:14 PM PDT I've found myself getting into yoga during the lockdown like a lot of people, so I traded up my cheapo foam exercise mat to a heathyoga mat. Only problem is I'm still finding it so slippy. I get into down dog and my hands are slipping off the top of the mat, warrior 2 or triangle pose I feel my feet slip. I don't know what to do? Any advice on making my mat more slippy? Or should I have considered getting a different mat? Thanks in advance [link] [comments] |
Posted: 18 Jul 2020 04:08 PM PDT To start off Ive had severe generalized anxiety disorder since I was 14. My whole life everyday I just physically feel jittery and nervous. Its like if you drank 6 cups of coffee and then had to give a public speech in 15 minutes. Its that feeling.... except just always and all the time....even with out the external stimulus (no caffeine, no public speech).... Anyways, I've always hated yoga because I feel the physical symptoms of my anxiety in my poses. Like my muscles tremor intensely and theres just more awareness to the jitteriness feeling of anxiety. My muscles arent shaking from the poses from a weight load, muscle contraction aspect... but it feels like a surge of I dont know just adrenaline thats trapped. I understand the whole mind body awareness thing. And that im suppose to be aware of the physical anxiety feelings which does act as an anchor towards being in the present... But does simply holding the pose allow the adrenaline/energy to be physically released? Like I hold poses for a long time but the jittery/tremors dont subside.... or is the only way to release/burn the energy is through cardio. I dont know im confused what im even asking at this point.... im just curious if a major factor of my anxiety disorder is trapped cortisol or adrenaline in my muscles... cardio only helps for the endorphins but it only lasts for 12 hours and its just masking the anxiety idk how much its getting the adrenaline out... Just very intrigued about the physiology and science of anxiety relative to yoga [link] [comments]
Cat/Cow with anterior pelvic tilt? Posted: 18 Jul 2020 12:11 PM PDT So I'm still a bit of a beginner with Yoga, but I've been doing a lot of classes through the peloton app and such. Over the last few weeks (unrelated to yoga) I've found that I've started to develop an anterior pelvic tilt, which I've been addressing through separate stretches and conscious hip re-adjustments. One thing I can't wrap my head around is what to do during cat-cow. My first instinct during cat is to arch my back and anteriorly tilt my hips. Is this correct? Or are my hips supposed to be squared? I just worry that my propensity to tilt my hips that way will mess up my form. [link] [comments]
Good yogas for back pain due to long hours of sitting. Posted: 18 Jul 2020 06:59 AM PDT I'm an Indian engineering student. I have been suffering back pain since 3 weeks. I feel the pain is actually due to the long hours of sitting in front of the laptop. It is really horrible. Even though pain is not in the unbearable condition it is still irritating. Can you please suggest some yoga asanas to deal with the back pains? Thanks. [link] [comments]
Can do splits but during standing splits my knee wants to point outward.. help! Posted: 18 Jul 2020 09:44 AM PDT Hello yogis and happy Saturday! I was hoping to get some help on form doing standing splits. I'm a bit shy so I'd rather not take a picture unless necessary. I can do floor splits and half pigeons pretty easily, but when I do a standing split my knee doesnt want to stay pointing down. If I force it I get a cramp in my outer hip, although my outer hips are pretty flexible. I do have external tibial rotation (if my feet are straight my knees point at each other, if my knees are straight my feet point otwards) . I was wondering if maybe this was the reason it seemed I was pointing outwards? Has anyone else had this issue? Any advice please? [link] [comments]
Difficult to follow videos? Where to find pictured sheets? Posted: 18 Jul 2020 09:04 AM PDT Heya, I'm relatively new to doing yoga and have started lookating some yt videos on it but I find it really difficult to follow even if it's explained verbally because I have to keep looking up and eventually give up. Does anybody know any good resources for pictured flows or any tips for following videos? Will be interesting to know if anyone else has the same problem, long hair definitely doesn't help lol. Thanks! [link] [comments]
Posted: 18 Jul 2020 12:32 AM PDT Hi! I've taken the odd yoga class in the past and had a few month memberships for different studios (normal yoga and hot yoga), but I'm certainly not experienced. I've been to a few classes lately and have decided to get a proper membership to my local studio because all the classes I've done there so far I have loved. I would like to know how often people practice yoga each week? Just out of interest, really! And when you started being more regular in your practice, how quickly did you notice improvements - Mentally (calmness, focus etc)? Flexibility? Strength? I know everyone is different but I'd like to hear people's yogi journeys! [link] [comments]
Is the Manduka Pro mat really worth it? Posted: 18 Jul 2020 03:45 AM PDT I want to buy a yoga mat and I've been looking at the pro one. I've searched this subreddit about it extensively and opinions seem to differ a lot. Some are saying it's the best mat they've ever used and others are saying it's really tough to break in, too slippery, too sticky. That the salt method works, it doesn't work, that you can use 1 part water, 1 part white vinegar, 1 part lemon juice and a drop of dish soap to make your own degreaser or that you shouldn't use that. Feel a bit lost and confused [link] [comments]
Posted: 18 Jul 2020 02:58 AM PDT I used to do a lot of yoga when I was younger (61 now, and healthy). I would like to get back into it but due to a 5-year-old injury where I slipped in black ice and fractured my elbow in several places in the humerus just on the condyles at the joint, my arm does not straighten further than 50- 60o. This makes balance quite difficult and any poses that involve using arms are quite uncomfortable. I was just wondering if there were any suggestions for exercises I can do or practice that would address this issue. I'd like to focus on core mainly. Thanks in advance :) [link] [comments]
Anyone else’s diet change drastically after starting yoga? Posted: 17 Jul 2020 10:27 PM PDT This summer I started a super consistent yoga practice along with some running and noticed today at the store I was craving veggies and healthier foods instead of the typical somewhat junk food I always aim for. Perhaps I'm more conscious of the decision. Is this a common thing? [link] [comments]
Memories of dreams during practice Posted: 18 Jul 2020 03:03 AM PDT Does anyone else experience this? I thought at first it was just a coincidence but every single yoga practice I am getting several different memories of dreams, sometimes months old, sometimes from last year, just entering my mind instantly, as if the memory has just been placed there. The only conclusion I can come to is that I am experiencing an alteration of consciousness during yoga, which is allowing what are essentially subconscious thoughts to come into the conscious mind more easily? Interested to hear if anyone else has this happen during their practice and what they believe the reason is :) [link] [comments]

Avoid a teacher who teaches goat yoga? Posted: 18 Jul 2020 04:50 AM PDT I found a yoga class near me and the teacher seems well trained, but apparently she also teaches goat yoga, is that a red flag? [link] [comments]
Learning yoga during quarantine Posted: 17 Jul 2020 10:48 PM PDT Hi, I'm new here. When school shit down in March (I'm a teacher), I got a free trial of the DownDog app. I've been practicing most days of the week. I've tried several different versions of the app (full practice, yin, no warm up, quick flow). I love it and I can see myself improving in a lot of ways. My question is, without having a teacher or a mirror wall to see myself with, I can't tell how my poses look. I might think I'm doing great but an experienced outsider might immediately notice something I need to realign. So, what are some things I can try to self check? I see that people post their poses here and get feedback but I think I'm too shy for that yet... [link] [comments]
