I want to thank yoga during these tough times

    Posted: 15 Jul 2020 09:27 PM PDT

My anxiety and health anxiety has been higher among all the chaos surrounding us. Even when I start to feel unsafe in own body or environment, I can turn to yoga to help ground myself. Yoga has allowed me to find peace and heal in ways I never imagined. Through yoga I find strength within myself and trust, and I know I will make it though. That in itself is comforting.

    Curious about hourly teacher pay...

    Posted: 16 Jul 2020 09:11 PM PDT

Hola! I just completed my 200hr ryt and am looking to start (once fully open of course) at a studio in Seattle, WA. I'm just curious about the typical per hour rate per class. Seems like hourly pay is the new standard. What is the typical going rate for a new teacher vs. a "Lead" teacher?

Yogis. What do you think of doing weights and doing yoga?

    Posted: 16 Jul 2020 09:07 PM PDT

Recovering addict here. Yoga addict also. Love it quite a bit. And it's gotten me into great shape. I weigh nothing basically now. I was outside the yoga studio that opened up post covid. and noticed an FFC gym for the first time. not going to lie. my vanity led me here. i just want my chest and arms and abs to pop a bit more. So i joined and have gone twice. i like the novelty of machines. never joined a gym in all my 54 years. But honestly it feels kind of wrong on some level. my motivation. and the fact that lifting weights is so boring compared to yoga. but i really want to max out my late in life in shape body. could get hit by a bus tomorrow! What do you guys think of this? mixture of eastern mystic wisdom and western lunkhead vanity? or should i even care? thanks

    Yoga Alliance RYT 200?

    Posted: 16 Jul 2020 09:02 PM PDT

Been doing Yoga for many years but I would like to get the certificate.

Are there any super cheap options (running tight because of covid) for doing the RYT online but that still enables you to get a legitimate yoga alliance registration?

    Shoulder strain from headstand?

    Posted: 16 Jul 2020 05:40 PM PDT

Hi! I've been practicing headstands for a few months now. A couple weeks ago, I was practicing outside without a mat, and when I came down I felt a sharp pain in my neck, and I ended up having a stiff neck for about three days. I deduced it to the unevenness of my grass.

Then today during my headstand practice, nothing hurt and then about 15 minutes after my practice the same pain started again. I cannot move my head all the way to the left and the pain goes from my neck to down behind my shoulder blade.

Of course when I look this up, the most common answer is to keep weight off of your head. But I don't put any weight on my head. More often than not my head is actually a hair above the floor. I also don't kick up into headstand, I use my core to push and glide up. I'm not worried that it's a major injury, just frustrated because I love headstands and I'm not sure why this keeps happening to me?

    Emotional reaction hours after yoga?

    Posted: 16 Jul 2020 09:52 AM PDT

Hi everyone! I've only recently (past 3 months) been doing yoga consistently. I love it so much, I can't even begin to explain how much it has changed me. I struggled with anxiety and depression for a long time and yoga has been one of the most healing things I've introduced into my life.

I've heard a lot about emotional releases during a certain pose, but what about after yoga? I started a more challenging yin yoga routine and during it's a little frustrating but thats it. Ive noticed hours after class I feel "off" . It's like an unsettled feeling. I'm trying to figure out why I suddenly feel this way.

    Yoga for breathing problems

    Posted: 16 Jul 2020 03:50 PM PDT

Hey y'all, been following yoga tutorials off of the internet and I like it a lot. Does anyone have experience in using yoga to fix breathing problems? Doctors have told me it's all in my head and it probably is but I'm so anxious sometimes that I can't take a full breath for weeks at a time. Certain breathing exercises help but I'm wondering if there's anything concrete in yoga for this.

Shopping for GF yoga clothes, what are your favorite brands?

    Posted: 16 Jul 2020 09:08 AM PDT

Hi, sorry if this is too general, but I'm looking to get my gf yoga pants, shorts, mat, or other accessories for her bday. I know about lululemon, alo yoga, and some other popular brands, but looking for maybe less known, but highly fashionable, high quality yoga brands.
edit: She also runs a lot so cross over yoga-running brands I suppose

    Casual newbie

    Posted: 16 Jul 2020 08:32 AM PDT

Hello! So I have a question. I have a bit of a weak core and back and I want to practice yoga more but I'm scared of hurting myself. I just have a question though if it is normal to feel like muscle aches and pain? Like I have degeneration in my lower back but obviously I want to strengthen it but some of the moves like really make my muscles sore. Is this normal? Will it get better/how long until I feel stronger?

Manduka Pro vs. Bmat Strong - density and longevity

    Posted: 16 Jul 2020 07:41 AM PDT

    Hi everyone,

I've been on and off practicing for a year and am looking to buy a good mat that will last me a long time.

I'm currently using a Lululemon Reversible mat 5mm - it's decently grippy (PVC side) but I sweat very easily so still slide a little. The 5mm isn't cutting it for my sensitive knees - I'm always coming away feeling bruised even with a towel.

So after a lot of research I'm down to the Manduka pro and the B Mat strong. Both are 6mm.

I'm leaning towards the B Mat due to not needing a break in and reading that it's really grippy immediately. But still considering the Manduka pro as based on my brief experience with the brand a long time ago I like the dense cushion it provides and it's a closed cell PVC, which seems to last much longer than a natural rubber.

Can anyone with experience with both share which one is denser to provide better support for joints? If the B Mat will indeed deteriorate faster?

    Thank you!

    Posted: 16 Jul 2020 02:24 AM PDT

Hi all! Been a Yogi since Jan 2018, but in the past 6 months as ive begun inversions, arm balances etc, my wrist has been giving me greif and not allowing me to put much weight on it. Ive tried extra extra time for warmup, giving it a week or two's rest, wrist support, the works. But never used to have an issue before with poses like plank, crow, side plank, down dog, only since i started wheel, handstand and lotus has this been a problem, any tips or advice will be hugely appreicated!!!

Stay safe, love to all x x

Modifications for Pranayama Breathing (26+2 pose)

    Posted: 16 Jul 2020 05:56 AM PDT

23M, 6' 1". I have degeneration of my C6-C7 and cervical stenosis. I think this has been caused by improper form during Pranayama Breathing in hot (formerly Bikram) yoga.

I am looking for any modifications that avoid pressure on the back of the neck. Thank you!
