Have a "stupid" question and are afraid to ask it? (Or don't want to make a whole thread for it?) Well, feel free to ask away in this thread! There's no such thing as a stupid question. This is also a great opportunity for the rest of the community to help each other out.

    Guidelines:

    • As always, read the FAQ to make sure your question isn't answered already.
    • If you're looking for the Motivational Month threads from the past, they are all here in our Wiki.
    • You can also use the search bar to see if an answer to your question exists already.
    • We are not medical professionals. If something hurts and it doesn't go away within a week's rest, see one!

    Enjoy!

Should I stretch on my strength training days or on my running days?

    Posted: 02 Aug 2020 09:13 AM PDT

Hello all. I perform strength training on MWF and I run on TTS. I started static stretching seriously a couple weeks ago and I was doing it every day of the week. However, I pulled a muscle in my lower back and I think it was due to overstretching.

Whenever I recover (hopefully soon), I want to get back into the same three disciplines, with stretching less. Should I static stretch on my strength training days or on my running days? As a side question, I wanted to introduce yoga into my regimen as well. How would this fit into my program too?

I've never been able to touch my fingers during this tricep stretch, BUT JUST ONE DAY IN MY ENTIRE LIFE, I was able to do it... Why is that?

I've never been able to touch my fingers during this tricep stretch, BUT JUST ONE DAY IN MY ENTIRE LIFE, I was able to do it... Why is that?

In 8th grade P.E. (a.k.a H E double hockey stick), we had a 3 week final exam where we'd be tested on our flexibility. One of the stretches we had to is where you lift one arm and touch your hand as far down your back as possible, and then you have to try to clasp that hand with your other hand from under. I've put a photo of the stretch below. It's really uncomfortable for the arm that has to go from under in my case. I've only ever been able to do the right side (right hand from the top and left from under) but barely. The left side was worse. I couldn't even stretch my right arm to move above my left shoulder blade. It would hurt my right shoulder. As the test day was approaching, we'd do this as part of our warmup, and nothing improved for me. My right arm still wouldn't go up at all. So, I pretty much gave up and accepted that I was going to fail. Then the day came, and our coach went around to each person asking them to do the stretch on both sides. He got to me. It was my turn. I tried and... VOILA my right arm reached right up WITH EASE and clasped the fingers of my left!!! What in the world? WHY all of the sudden could I do the stretch? The next day I couldn't do it anymore and since then, I've never been able to do it again. WHY IS THIS?!!! I'm really curious to hear what you all think about this "phenomenon". I've tried searching it up, but I don't know how to describe it. Why was I able to do a stretch I could never do before for just one day and then never be able to do it again?

ISO of solution for slipping hands during downward dog

    Posted: 02 Aug 2020 04:38 PM PDT

I work out on carpet and when I stretch after a work out, I can't keep downward dog as my hands sweat and start to slide away. I've tried using a yoga mat and the same thing happens. I've tried on a foam floor as well - slippy, slidey!

The only think that works is a step. Literally, palms on the edge so that I can push against my wrists and there's no give. The problem is, that's not downward dog and I don't always have a step near by.

    Any suggestions would be appreciated!

External obliques clicking sound, has anyone experienced this?

    Posted: 02 Aug 2020 05:42 AM PDT

Lately, when I am doing crunches especially, I am feeling clicking sounds on my left side below the ribs while coming up and squeezing the abs. No pain, no discomfort - but I don't want to cause more damage. Has anyone experienced this?
